That's true, but a cleverly-crafted story could give the illusion that we have affected the story. Much as the capture of the SP was (IMO) planned all along by the PMs, but they gave the appearance that it was something spontaneous caused by us players.

i.e, the story will play itself out a certain way and the results of that story will show up in some way or another in Halo 2, be it as an easter egg or a plot point or whatever form it may take.

I could easily see Standish and his artifact playing a big role in Halo 2.

For example I picture a level deep within an Area 51 type complex, fighting off wave after wave of Covenant troops throwing themselves towards the artifact.

In the previoius level Master Chief fought his way down to the storage vault (or took a more spec ops type alternate route, who knows), where he met Standish and got an abbreviated story of how the artifact came to be on Earth (right after the story, Standish takes the first of the Covenant rounds to the chest, of course).

It would still make perfect sense to those who didn't play the ILB ARG, but for those of us who did the story is just that much more enriched.

Or even something simpler yet, like put a multiplayer level on the Apocalypso. It could be a map provided later over Xbox Live, and even include an ILB-based crew roster on the wall Smile

And the people at Bungie are a lot more creative than I am. I'm sure ILB could tie into Halo 2 in any number of ways that wouldn't throw off the n00bs.

Just some ideas. And I think I might be looking forward to Halo 2 more for the story than the gameplay (not that the gameplay won't be great, I'm sure).
After reading the books, replaying Halo 1 and realizing the full depth of the story Bungie has planned out for us, I'm psyched and ready to go. There's not enough good scifi content out there now, and even less in game form.

Not to mention that you assume the story isn't already plotted out.

If this ride is on rails, the rails certainly can run through H2.

Oh, and if the game has gone to RFC, maybe some of those previously-occupied Bungie folks will come over to work on ILB?

Probably not, but they did say that not eveyone is going on vacation...

yeah there's gotta be a definite end in mind. Otherwise I'm extremely impressed with how coherent the game has remained.

I totally agree, Nova.

There would be a lot (hundreds?) of angry ILB/Halo Fans if there was no "reward" for spending the past 4 months glued to there comp. dureing school and all. (I'm not one of those ppl, I'm loveing just playing it)
If this ILB game had started a year before the game had come out... then I would think it was just for fun from Bungie, but sense it's closeing in on Nov. 9... it be kinda stupid if they didn't plan on it being in the story Smile
Anyways, like Nova said:

and I'm sure that was there plan. Even if it's a small part in Halo 2, I'm sure they'll make us happy.

Even if the game is at release candidate stages, there's tons of ways Bungie could have left the code open so they could add a roster of the Apocalypso's crew or something small like that to the game that doesn't affect gameplay or overall story but is from the ILB saga. If the testers find any bugs they're going to have to recompile the game anyway, and adding a list of crew wouldn't be hard at all, especially if the game was already designed to read a text file that they just fill up with the crew members' names the day before it goes gold.

A text file? I don't think XBox runs DOS.

Nope. It runs Windows.

Nope. It runs Windows.

... Really? With the money MS has I'd expect it to have it's own OS.

It's a windows based kernel. in a nutshell, an extremely stripped down, optimized windows kernel specifically for xbox.

Either way, even if it didn't use DOS, does that mean it doesn't use text? or files? or text files? Confused Man, Linux must be faaar behind without any text files
/sarcasm

I've been messing around in MS-DOS 7 for a while, and for some reason asociate text files with DOS. Maybe it's because of Edit.
