September 19th

I looked up September 19th on History Orb and on that day in 1962 the USSR tested a nuclear bomb at Novaya Zemlya. Could possibly be an atmospheric test and be related to some of the other viral stuff.

Well it certainly appears as if our little film makers had first hand access to the film canister department of the train.

Now we get to unlock more of the "Three Dotted Department's" testing film ourselves.

..I already feel a sense of horror when I hear we exposed and bombarded the craft.. (Im sure not with love)..and how much testing was done to _____________ .

to be continued...how to unlock the other frames.... Dunno

This pic came in an email from Paramount. Not sure if it's been posted, but I thought it looked pretty cool.

Heh, I think that's a collection of confiscated film they find, maybe.
Not sure if this 1962 reel will feature in the film, I doubt it, but they could come across it somehow.

OK, so we have two separate movie clips we are dealing with - the black and white 1962 footage documenting the lab experiments, and Charles' zombie movie shot on super 8, which may have captured scenes from the train wreck and chaos from the town of Lillian after the crash. It seems that the 1962 footage has been cut into pieces and separated. Mysterio must have one clip from which he posted the A.Minker photo, Josh has one clip that he was inquiring on at the start of the ARG, wanting to verify the footage. The puzzle pictures were easter eggs for what was coming up, as the new trailer shows many of those pictures.
A.Minker (Glynn Turman) is the driver of the yellow truck, and must have jumped clear of the truck before the crash (ouch).
The 1962 footage show the cube reacting to stimulus, and the trailer shows that the kids have found the cube and it jumps through the bedroom.
We have 2 pieces from the 1962 footage, and I'm sure we will be searching for the rest of the clips to complete the black and white footage.
That's my take on things so far.

People, you're right, we need to separate the discussion about Trailer and about S8EditingRoom. I opened new thread
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31815
Let's analyse there all the footage parts we will find the next months!

mystery cubes

It might be worth noting that the mysterious floating cubes seen in these trailers may be another direct link back to Spielberg's CLOSE ENCOUNTERS.

One of the special effects originally conceived for CE3K were to be a series of glowing cubes which emanated from the mothership at the DSM base, which were intelligently controlled by the ETs or artificially intelligent themselves — I think they were supposed to be some kind of data probes preceding the emergence of the aliens themselves.

They tried filming the cubes practically on-set — they flew in lines kind of like train cars or a monorail — but he floor effects just didn't work between the lights in the cubes and the wires supporting them. Eventually the effect was cut out of the film. Footage of this appears in the anniversary Blu-ray/DVD release.

Might J.J.'s cubes be a cousin of this dropped CE3K effect, but with an expanded role in his story? Certainly the era of CG effects would have helped Spielberg pull off this effect 35 years ago.

Also worth noting that the cube flies through the bedroom wall and the kids' view out through the hole in the wall is a water tower — the same water tower featured in the art accompanying today's Twitter trailer release.

Might either the tower itself or the water be some important or relevant factor to the mystery whats-it unleashed from the train wreck? The cub appears to be making a bee-line directly back to it, which I doubt is accidental since it's being prominently featured in shots and promo artwork.

Side note: the water tower artwork can't help but remind me of Wells' WAR OF THE WORLDS tripod machines for a very thin bump to Spielberg again. I doubt this angle will pay off specifically in SUPER 8 though.

That water tower you linked is also in the part where the "strange cube" breaks through the wall.[/url]

I think that's a key scene from the film - the blue light. In the trailer there's a soldier shooting at something along a darkened corridor. Something in the distance seems to have a similar blue glow around it. The cube object is a similar blue colour too.

This confirms my belief (I am pretty sure) that we're dealing with a Blob kind of critter. Maybe with a bit of Reptilicus in it (you blow it up, it becomes lots of little blobby monsters).

I've juz noticed that in scene where someone is picking up Kodak film box the hand is black - and i'm pretty sure it belongs to Josh's father. Maybe he took the kid's movie before army and Josh has this movie right now ? I wish we could see whole movie that kids have made during the crash.

It does look dark but it could be just a dirty hand..
But, whomever it is, they are wearing military style boots..
Maybe someone picking up a reel from the bag of Super 8 film the kids left behind?
Also, its a possibility that since that cube can go thru walls, maybe thats whats banging on the train car door trying to escape?

Yep. And the next shot seems to show the kids finding a cupboard full of collected film reels, photos and cassettes.

Yeah I've said it looked like multiple objects hitting the inside before, there's probably a bunch of these cube things.
