Slenderman movie

So, has anyone considered making a traditional horror film based on the general Slenderman concept? I've toyed with idea for a little bit, but I'm not sure how you would capture the unique feel of the mythos without turning it into either a generic slasher movie or a generic Lovecraftian movie (or a generic Lovecraftian slasher, if such a thing exists).

Personally, I'm imagining the style would be rather like No Country For Old Men meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre: very sparse imagery, with an oversaturated, almost documentary-ish feel to get the viewer feeling uncomfortable. No music at all, except maybe weird, quiet atonal/arythmic electronic noises that are just barely perceptable (sort of like some parts of Irreversible's soundtrack). You'd have to avoid traditional horror tropes (incompetant police, characters deciding to enter spooky houses at night) in order to get a feeling of true, concrete danger, as opposed to prescripted, this-character-obviously-dies foregone conclusions.

Anyway, how would you guys here imagine the ideal Slenderflick?

I've often thought you could do a slendervlog style Slenderman movie if you follow a concept like Blair Witch or EVP. I like your idea though, sounds very creepy.

Actually, a movie that I feel has a similar concept is Mimic, the first half anyways. The Judas Breed likes to do that same hiding-in-the-background-in-well-lit-areas thing.

Even further, I'd like to see a story (not a movie, or people would claim RUINED FOREVER) where Slenderman's not just Nyarlathotep in a suit or whatever, but more like the Judas Breed, something physical and real that merely has human-like camouflage.

Isn't that (partly) how he was first imagined? If I recall, Slender started out as a fairly concrete, physical threat, before Marble Hornets popularized the more vague, Lovecraft-inspired interpretation that's all the rage now.

Personally speaking, I prefer the rough-and-tumble oldschool Slenderman over his more subdued modern counterpart, if only because standing around doing nothing becomes kind of....not-scary...after a while.

I'm working on a screenplay to a Slender Man movie. If that counts.

I'd imagine it'd be similar to The Poughkeepsie Tapes, seeing as how all the Slenderfriend-related stories are handheld camera POVs anyway.

I would like something different from the vlogs. They are amazing, but the magic of the interaction and updates every once and a while couldn't be captured by the big screen. I was thinking something on the case explained in the original Victor Surge post. About the photograph with The Slender Man standing in the background. And 14 kids disappeared, along with a fire later on.

I think it would be cool to have a movie whose main character is the photographer who caught the snapshot, and maybe similar stuff that happens in the vlogs happens to him. Instead of capturing Slendy on video, he took pictures, and he eventually goes after him, maybe? Or maybe he takes pictures of Slendy and wants to solve the mystery of him. He knows that Slendy, the disappearance of the children, and the fire all have some sort of correlation, and he tries to figure out what the fuck is going on.
EDIT: It also HAS to include this line: "we didn't want to go, we didn't want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time..."
That line always got me.

Idk, i'm rambling, but I think it sounded pretty good.
Hey, screenwriter up there, if you could post a sample, that would be incredible. I'm trying to become a screenwriter, and i'm fairly new, so a sample would be great. Or maybe telling us a little of the plot? Smile

I have the first eleven or twelve pages done, and I'm planning on really going full-out on it for Script Frenzy in April. I do plan on showing people around here just to hear feedback, but most likely either when it's close to or is actually finished.

As for the plot, it's a Slender Man movie XD trying very hard to the psychological effects of a Slender story instead of the Hollywood approach, that's my big goal.

Sounds awesome! I wish you luck, bro!

Indeed. For me, my favorite Slenderman story from the early days was the one about the hunters, with people impaled on trees with their organs in plastic bags inside their bodies. It's just so... tantalizing and provocative...

I personally think the most important thing is to post the finished product here when whoever is working on it is done.

But one thing that would be interesting would be if the film was done from a first person point of view, but not shaky cam style. To kind of give it a universal feel.

I would like to see a series of documents/interviews with stalkee's that "think" they've escaped, intercut with reinacments/proof they've been stalked/are being stalked

I do have one scene planned for a "Blair Witch/Cloverfield" POV. Might have another, not sure yet. Mostly gonna be 3rd-Person though.

Oh, I'm sure everyone and their brother is working on a Slendyscript. And Hollywood will have it soon in bastardized form.

I am a writer - with no connections, really - but I still didn't want to touch it. I felt like I'd be stealing from a bunch of college kids.

This. I want a movie too. But I want the guys to make it. The three-eight of them (depending on who you include) have managed to make three /very/ good short series. MH and EMH both have enough material to classify them as "feature-length".

And they did this on minimal, next-to-zero budget. I'd /love/ to see what they could do with Hollywood money behind them.
