You guys, quitting the Trials will never work. Remember when the admissions closed, HABIT said there were no more Rabbits, "YET"? He'll just get more. I think this applies to the Trials as is, too. If he doesn't find what he wants, he'll pull more in. There's time for this.

He said it was still worth going because of how much fun we had though, and we may go back to the spot and search for it anyway because I have to wonder if it happened when opening the box.

Twenty dollars on it turning up in the next box. xD

So, I walk in to my dorm room after a nice Spring Break, and log on and see...this.

CHRIST ALMIGHTY. I am simultaneously overjoyed and utterly terrified. Seriously, I'm close to tears over here.

I've got a mix of the same, Luipaard. I just hope we're not being told all this just so we can watch it happen from the sidelines. That would make this a lead balloon, IMO. And I think EMH has smarter storytellers than that.

If you haven't read through the cache thread, please do, there's a lot more detail in there. I think maybe they should be merged into here.

Yup, I'm caught up on everything! <3 I also think that EMH will be smarter than that. We'll get an opportunity to do some damage, I have no doubt.

Might be easier to keep the cache thread separate, just inserting it in here would be confusing.

Hmm. The whole "greater cycle" thing suggests to me that perhaps we don't want to break the cycle so much as perfect it. Maybe the whole thing is cyclical because the participants all have to keep doing it again and again until they get it right? Once they get it right, they can move on to the "greater cycle", whatever that is, and actually make progress. But if they get it wrong, they don't get to move on, they have to redo this cycle until they don't screw it up.

The "Groundhog Day" theory? That they are doomed to repeat the cycle until they get some aspect of it right? But what? Saving themselves? Preventing an event?

I just got caught up with everything. I think there's only one thing I can say in regards to this TOTALLY fucked development:

This changes absolutely everything.

Heh.

A thought on this line:

Quote:
THE FIREBRAND SHALL DEFECT AND SELF-IMMOLATE, NO LONGER DEFINING THE TWO WITHIN

The obvious reading of "defect" is "go to the other side, join up with the enemy", but it might be worth remembering that the word has a looser meaning in game theory, there meaning "fail to cooperate". In a Prisoner's Dilemma, the criminal who rats out his partner is said to defect. HABIT referred to the Prisoner's Dilemma back in Trial One, so we know he's familiar with that terminology.

Is this important? Well, I can think of twice that Evan has failed to cooperate, once when he denounced Jeff for turning in Steph and again during the recent "Rose" video. Those could be setting us up for his big defection.

I'm surprised that this line hasn't been discussed more because it's the one that stuck out most to me. My first impression was that Evan is destined to an hero to save the others from himself/Habit, thus destroying both entities. Even if that isn't the case, it does seem to imply that he/them will be his/their own undoing (confusing!).

That's how I read it too, Mira.

It also implies that it's happened before, and Fish's theory, if correct, suggests HABIT is using the trials to try and escape the same repeated fate and break free.

Good question. It's hard to believe that there isn't some sort of clue in the Cliff's Notes of the cycle that we were given today. There doesn't seem to be any interdependence among each character's set of oracular pronouncements, so maybe a little consolidation will help get the insights flowing?

Quote:
The Voyeur shall watch from an emotional distance, insisting upon maintaining their strength. He'lll remain idle to all who see, however busy he may be beneath. He shall swallow Justice's sword.

The Firebrand shall disregard obvious danger and assume the role of force. He'll lead an offensive as he might, only to succumb to the war within. He will defect and self-immolate, no longer defining the two within.

The Guardian will lose his heart and then his blood and fight to lose all he loves. He'll defy a god only to be dealt a fatal blow.

For the Voyeur and the Guardian, at least, it looks like there's a pattern of Defining Characteristic--Critical Action--Dire Consequence. If we want to avoid the Dire Consequence, we should work on a way to prevent them from taking the Critical Action, maybe? If that's the case, the easiest thing might be finding a way to get Vince to come clean about whatever he's been doing behind the scenes.

EDIT: Good point, Mira and qaqa. Maybe we need to get Evan on suicide watch? That puts an interesting spin on the clip of him slouched in a mental institution from one of the hidden videos.

This is simple and brilliant. Yes. All we can do right now about Jeff is attempt to save Alex (again).

As for Vinnie...

This is brilliant. Possibly futile but brilliant. What do we do? How do you open on that?
