Other NYC axons this week:

10:13 PDT 40.7335 -73.995293 top_hat
Rubin Hall (5th Ave & 10th, SE corner)

10:25 PDT 40.729724 -73.995423 top_hat
adjacent to NYU Bookstore (Washington Pl & Greene, SW corner)

10:45 PDT 40.757145 -73.98724 flu
Times Building (43rd & 7th)

15:25 PDT 40.748415 -73.984813 so_sad
Empire State Building

It's worth noting that some of the Manhattan axons show up as being in Weehawken on the coordinate lists. Figures. Razz There's also several axons in Hoboken and Long Island, for anyone in those parts.

Fingers crossed, I can hit both the NYU area axons tomorrow if they're not hot then.

I made a go at the 10:13 one, but got no call, just a dial tone. I did hit the Empire State Building one though. Just a recording.

Edit: I just read the list of Axons you put up, and saw that the top_hat one is in Rubin Hall. Any idea where? I could try again tomorrow.

Where exactly was the phone?

By the way, our own dear Bagsbee is now on the crew. He answered the live call at a phone next to the Staten Island Ferry terminal and sang "Golden Slumbers" to Melissa. At rush hour. Surrounded by hundreds of passing commuters and some construction workers....

Is he cool or what? Cool

The ESB phone was in the payphone bank on the ground floor (it was actually at the 33rd street entrance) If you were facing the exit doors, it was in the left bank, the first phone in it. Actually it's a wheelchair accessible phone too.

If I ever got a live call, I would have ot say that my favorite song was "Master of Puppets"

Long Island 10/5

I'm going to attempt to cover half of Long Island's 10 Axons tomorrow. Here's the rundown (all times EDT):

1. 9:55a: Rt. 110, Farmingdale, by Republic Airport. If it's in the airport, this may be tough. I'll try to hit this one, but if it looks too tough, I may move on to Nesconset while I still have time.

2. 10:17a: Rt. 347, Nesconset. Not enough time to do both of these, they're about 32 minutes apart. Considering this is further in Suffolk, and I plan to go back to work afterwards, I'd prefer to do the other one instead, but I may try this one if I'm running late and don't wanna search the airport.

Morning set - can get 1/2

I go back to work, and then leave around 3pm. Total cost: 1/2 vacation day

3. 3:41p: Rt. 110, just N. of Rt. 47, Farmingdale. I think another Long Islander covered this last time. If the same guy is there already, or if I'm running late, I'll move on to Huntington Station. Otherwise, this is the one I'll probably hit.

4. 3:53p: Garden City Country Club, Franklin Sq. I've tried this one before - it isn't the 2 phones by the train station (including the one inside and the one at the intersection). Thus, it's probably inside the country club. Even if I'm running too late to do Axon #3, there's no way I'm touching this one. Anyone feeling particularly adventurous can try inside the country club if they like. There's not enough time to get here from #3 or to get to #5 in time.

5. 3:57p: Vanderbilt Pkwy, Huntington Station. Just barely too far to get here from #3 (about 17 minutes). If I'm running late, I'll do this one, but then I won't make it to #6. You might be able make 7 or 8 of these Axons in 1 day if you were willing to risk getting a ticket (insane speeds), but the chances are very slim.

3p-4p set - can get 1/3

6. 4:23p: Whitney Pond, Manhasset. About 26 minutes from #3. I will probably do this one, as it will put me in good position for #8. If I ended up doing #5, I will probably skip this and go to #7.

7. 4:59p: S. Oyster Bay Rd, Syosset. I can make it here in time from #6, but then I won't be able to make #8, and I REALLY wanna do #8, because I've done it before. But if I miss #6, I may do this one anyway.

4p-5p set - can get 2/2 but will probably get 1

8. 5:17p: Northern Blvd, Lake Success. It's at the gas station between Iris and Aster Ln. I got a Recipe 3 Axon here. This is a sure thing, and a priority for me to get. Maybe my hard work will be rewarded by making crew here. If I ended up doing #7, though, I won't have time and will move on to #9.

9. 5:47p: Jericho Tpke, Commack. Between Mayfair Terrace and Kings Park Rd. If for some reason, I can't leave work early tomorrow at all, this will be the first Axon I can get. Otherwise, there's not enough time to get all the way to Commack from Lake Success (#Cool. Plenty of time to get here from #7, tho, if I did that.

5p-6p - can get 1/2

By this point, I've picked up my wife and can head home... but there's one more waiting for me!

10. 6:53p: Little Neck Rd, West Babylon. Between Manhattan and Sheffield Ave. The only way I miss this is if I do #9 and THEN pick up my wife from work. If I do #8, though, I can pick her up on time, drop her off at home, and still have enough time to make it, because this is RIGHT near my house! Last axon of the day, and a probable score.

after 6pm - can do 1/1

Maximum possible score: 6/10, but my wife won't be happy about the really late pickup this would entail.

Desired route: 1,3,6,8,10 - 5/10

Here's hoping all goes well!

XStryker, signing off.

This site
http://www.payphone-directory.org/payny.html lists three payphones in Garden City at Adelphi University.

Garden City
Adelphi University............1 South Av..Alumnae hall, 1st Fl.
Adelphi University............1 South Av..Blodgett hall, 1st Fl.
Adelphi University............1 South Av..Earle hall, 1st Fl.

When I plugged in the above
address into MapQuest,
the same map as the gps co-ordinates appear.
Maybe I'm going about this backwards.... Dunno .
Maybe it's not the country club, but the University instead.
Are there any Adelphi students out there willing to check this out?

I'm getting the 6:55 in Farmingdale. For future info, its about a quarter mile south of the airport on 110 going south. Park at Starbucks, cross the street, phones about 100 feet south of the bus stop right off the road. Very easy.

Had I not taken the semester off tht would be my first axon
But now I'm back in Pine Bush waiting for the PMs to set an axon or two in monroe or goshen/middletown...

I know where that location is, I have rode via bike down 110/109 several times before.

Something to note is that the pay phone is probrably not at the FSU republican airport. The map shows the axon across the stree and on the road.

Now if memory serves, there is a golf course over that fence... there may be a phone there....
But I do not believe that there is any phone in the open on the side of the road...

eeeeck

I've been wanting to get to some axon ever since this started, but me being crazy busy, I've only been able to lurk and keep up with whats been going on. Finally I have some time off today Smile. (School tends to be from 9:00 - 5:00 ><)

Trying to find the closest axon to where I live, which is Bayside. I can take the N20 down northern, which basicly goes to hicksville or to flushing. If anyone would be able to help with locations I would be forever greatful, I suck with locations Razz

I should be able to hit the ESB again this week. Making a total of two successful axons for me. (Assuming I'm successful)

Congratulations! Now, WHAT HAPPENED?!?

Come over to the new Long Island thread! We could use the help. Most of our Axons are after 5 this week. Locations posted in the Long Island thread.
