i think the salinity/tantalus one is actually "salt water", because of the "relatively speaking" part of the clue. tantalus sought water.

if it helps any, highlighting all the text with your mouse lights some letters up in white and keeps the rest gray. some of these are bolded letters, but some aren't...

I edited my post and changed square bracket to "Angle Bracket", and added Alzheimers answer.
