"con't" with an apostrophe is a typical way of abbreviating the word "continued." It's not technically correct, but it's not like rules have ever stopped English from ever doing anything Wink

I see only USBULELSBX as well, but haven't yet figured out anything comprehensible for it.

Oh ok, I'm really laughing now. Sorry about the big deal with something common, guys, my English is not THAT great so it will happen sometimes.

Oh the pleasure of learning new things.

I think USBULELSBX is a vigenere with the key word of heir. Pop that in and out you get...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
NOTDEADBUT

Perhaps in reference to Mr. Grace?

Well, it may be an obvious thing but we don't have just two marks to consider any more. We now have a line, line with one hash and line with two hashes. All of them are broken up in to groups of 5.

Just read this- the site, and the whole thread this morning. Loving it so hard.

This might be obvious (my mind is working very slow) but ..

"notdeadbut"

Hostile.

In direct service.

(to the, implied)

heir.

Man, I can't decide how much weight I should give the name pickman. Surely it would be too obvious to have that name give us the endgame, but the stuff with heir, emphasis on his dad finding the place.. part of me really wants to see this Pickman as a descendant from Lovecraft's Pickman.

Theory Time!

So, here are some possible theories I've come up with.

Thomas and Regina are the same person ala Resident Evil:Code Veronica's Alfred Ashford. The shots COULD be for a transgender op, as has been stated previously. Add to that the fact that our boy Tommy has been seeing a shrink since he was 19 and we get a recipe for a craaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy tranny. (Edit: Regina was diagnosed as schizo "a few years ago") Digging deeper into the Regina phenom might uncover unpleasant (aka awesome and helpful) information. Maybe Regina died, or there never really was a Regina at all. (Edit: Or maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe. . . Just maybe, Tom used to BE Regina BEFORE he became a man. Possibly FOR Jessica)

Another interesting idea focused on the shrink is that it would seem Tom started seeing her right around the same time he got together with Jessica. (They were together for 3 years, and he's now 22) Something about his relationship with Jessica might have sparked his psychological problems. Again, could be a sexual confusion thing. Then again, maybe there never was a Jessica.

Lots to digest. I'm really enjoying this a lot.

Jez, I really love the theory on the sister/split.
Also, to note, schizophrenia runs in families and tends to onset around 18-25.

From all the note, should be assume Mr. Grace is "notdeadbut"?

And for the "heir" I think it might have something to do with Pickman's dad, who suggested the windmill and has left him alone all this time.

Just wanted to chime in that everyone has done a fantastic job on this so far. I've wanted to play since it started but been way too busy, and going through this right now, I'm glad to see what's been so far accomplished.

Random musings:

If this is about a split personality...it makes a stronger case for abandonedwell being in game. Remember Tom would assume that he made a mistake there if it was done by his alter. Has anyone emailed that account?

also "below" would fit in with abandonedwell? perhaps?

i too wouln't discount anomie nadir as being oog quite yet...it seems to fit mood, time of creation, and the art work is possibly done by the same person

Is it possible for there to be a quick list of puzzles solved and those outstanding for a late comer like me? Pretty pretty pretty please?

with sugar on top Smile

I'm pretty fond of the idea, myself. I've got my fingers crossed.

Another quick little sidenote. . .

Direct Service and Hostile are both common military terms.

Been a LONG time since I've participated in anything. After reading this thread I'll be joining in on this one - looks interesting!

If the well does become part of the game it has a good tie-in to Arcadia - Arcadia is often associated with the underground Alpheus river that came to be from the god Alpheus transforming in to the river after his object of lust/love, a nymph, transformed in to the fountain that is often depicted as Arcadia (and other times it's depicted as a tombstone, such as in the Poussin paintings) - that whole folklore comes from Ovid's Metamorphoses.

René of Anjou, 15th century king of France and member of the Inner Circle of the Knights Templar, believed that the underground river Alpheus was tied to the bloodline of Jesus.

A little bit more of a link to the whole DaVinci Code than just the Poussin painting at Rennes-le-Château Smile

Let's see, if I recall correctly (and I bet I'm not)

Solved:
1. Missing letters from note #1 spell "beware the black men rings"
2. Missing letters from note #2 = USBULELSBX = not dead but

Unsolved:
1. Marks beneath notes #1 and #2
2. "Hostile," "in direct service," "beware the men in black rings," and "heir"
3. Meaning of the deliberately misspelled words in Pickman's journal entry
4. 404 message and why it flashes "below"
5. If there is a reason for the upper and lower case letters in "Hostile" and "In direcT SerVICE"
6. Who is "not dead but"?
7. Where did Pickman's notes go / who took them?

Possibly OOG / unrelated:

1. The shots Pickman takes
2. The mix-up of writing well instead of windmill for an email address
3. Whether or not withlovecraft is in-game (if IG, could she possibly be Regina?)

I'm sure I'm missing some things...

Assuming that this game is anything like real life, it's pretty much impossible for him to have gotten as far as getting a prescription for T if his only motivation for wanting to change was to woo some chick. You actually need to go to gender reassignment therapists and prove you have a long-standing history of being born into the wrong gender. IRL, I know a few people who are trans and failed to get hormones because the therapists didn't think they were ready for years. Shit's not easy AT ALL.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Of course, if OOGTom doesn't know that... Eh. Razz

However the rest of this theory is great, awesome stuff, love it love it.

Also, I'm not boarding the train that says the Well is Below the windmill, Jessica helped enhance his crazy, and that this windmill is a piece of family property someone inHEIRited. Har har.

Just on a whim, and I may be completely wrong, the name Regina means Queen.. obviously.. And royalty is where heirs matter most, right? (Thomas means "twin"... interesting..)

Of course, talking about crazy and possible family problems reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_JFjY5Y0Os Enjoy the theme music.

(I LOVE THIS SO FAR.)

Another Rennes-le-Château connection? "Ad Lapidem Currebat Olim Regina", "ALCOR", "The queen ran towards the stone in the past"...

thanks a lot!! bluesylvia Very Happy

okay, regarding the marks...I was looking at them and the first thing I thought of for the crossed marks is footnote symbols. So I decided to look the symbols up.

for the double cross symbol I found a few wikipedia entries

this one is plausible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Lorraine

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_barred_cross

but this one is stronger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_dagger

particularly this bit: "Since it also represents the Christian cross, in certain predominantly Christian regions, the mark is used in a text before or after the name of a deceased person or the date of death,[2] as in Christian grave headstones." Another reference says the double cross is used before the date of someone's death.

or this might even explain it: http://www.freemasonry.bcy.ca/symbolism/cross/index.html

Which brought me to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_St._Peter

so we have st. peter crosses (or inverted daggers), with notch marks, and a cross of Lorraine (or diesis/ double dagger) with notch marks......sigh

I think with heir we need to concentrate on the heirs in the note: Emmett and Edmund II.
