UK Release Date

Evening all,

So as we draw closer to the Super 8 cinema delight I thought I would highlight an awkward problem. It has been confirmed that the film will be released across the UK on Friday 19th August. Most people will be flocking to the movie on the 10th June in the States, you lucky buggers.

If you could contain your enthusiasm for the details of the film that would be greatly appreciated, it seems crazy that there is such a difference in release dates (in light of torrent copies etc.). I will try to resist looking at reviews and web site chatter after the 10th.

There is a determined honourable petition to try to bring the date in line with America but would probably not come to much.

YOu should post the link to the petition here. (unless it's against forum rules) You never know who else might sign it. Couldn't hurt.

Looks like my trip to Comic-Con will have one evening spent in a cinema !

Let us know the petition details and we can start spreading the word for us UK folks.

In Spain also is on August 19, I think too, two months is unfair.

If the US release date is the 10th June that means we've got 2 months and 5 days before this ARG ends... so when is it actually going to start?!

I mean, we were given our Astronaut Training Program account details back in January but the Astronaut Training Program section on the RocketPoppeteers.com still hasn't begun.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound impatient or grateful but we're getting irregular updates on HLM and STIES, the s8editingroom.com (what's that all about?), and the images at the end of the Super8 trailer that changed every day (which led to?)... it's all very unclear.

I was thinking about the slooooooow pace of things today, frustrated that I can't imagine how they will tie up all this information in the time left before the release, when I had this thought: what if the ARG is going to continue through the summer to the UK release date. That would add 10 weeks. I'm not really sure why the creators would do that from a story standpoint, but if they kept the ARG going after the US release (at the beginning of the summer), then the "buzz" about the movie would continue (esp if the ARG gets exciting), and potentially increase the number of $$$ in their pockets, until they wrapped it all up with the UK release (at the end of the summer). I"m totally spitballing here- it just popped into my head when I was thinking about all the loose ends. Dunno

I was thinking our (Israeli) release date is late... It is set to 28'th of July.

The premiere was set for July 29th in Sweden, but then it was moved to June 17. Guess who was happy! Very Happy

This deviation in screening dates is one of the reasons to force people download the film from the internet and not watch in in the cinema.

The UK release date has been moved to 05 Aug 11
I'm still not happy with that Sad
If it was even late June i'd be happy to wait. But why do we get one of the latest dates.
I really hope they move it up a bit more, i agree with you Froid, once hype is generated (even more) in the US. People in other countries will download it and not watch it in the cinema
