Re: Puzzles

sgfan wrote:
Seems to me these puzzles from the Baron have got a little muddled.

The 5th one Amandel figured out password: Peter Pan.

The coords I did a Google street, theres a statue there, looks like a St George & Dragon maybe, not at home at the moment.

3rd Puzzle I think is related to the Geese postcard.

4th not a clue, although having following the previous game, I've noticed this PM likes to use similars in his/her wordings, different words meaning the same thing. The filename looks like an anagram too.

Thats all I have for now.

Will be working on the 3rd 4th puzzles over the weekend .... and updating the wiki so we have things straightened out. Would really appreciate some help updating the wiki... particularly the emails section.

New e-mail exchange from Wallace!

I wrote:

Dear Wallace,

I was wondering... Professor Frame knows more about Tartarus and told you about it on your last case... you're still going to interview him, right?

You should ask him if any other attempts were ever made to harness it...

I was thinking the other day about the case and wondering.... all the recalled fridges... is it possible that someone missed one? No recall is ever perfect. If you could find one you might be able to find a KAT battery they mentioned the recall was about... it just seems relevant to the case, given the Victim's name.

There I erroneously listed Professor "Drake" as professor "Frame" because my Droid X phone hates words that aren't in it's thesaurus and I was sloppy and didn't doublecheck my spelling.

Wallace wrote back:

That's Professor Drake and talking to him is no longer possible as you will see from my post when I put it up.

Good idea about the recall though, I look will into.

As for Tartarus you need to read my last read my transcript from my case it could found at: http://www.missingwallace.net/Bob/01-02-2011/

You will need a password, either work it out yourself or I am sure you can find relevant information on it elsewhere.

Wallace.

Examining the 3rd puzzle... I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but reading over it, and comparing it to Foilhead's "Sin is a Virus" thing, I can't help but think about the Black Plague.

I don't know how it would be related to the AmerehK Headsman line, though...

Just my two cents.

EDIT: After analyzing the files, I keep thinking about that darn third file!

Quote:
Winchester Red celebrated with gals
In sin til their deaths
By deadly plagues.

==========

Big Bill lived in AmerehK Headsman of this land in ancient times

Plus, the picture of geese and the phrase "Sin is a Virus" which, if the two things are juxtaposed together, make me keep thinking of Winchester, England...

Granted, ANYONE can do a wikipedia crawl, and I think you guys probably considered this option before, but take a look at the Wikipedia page for Winchester and see if there's anything there that sparks interest...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester

Looking over that page also made me suspicious that "Big Bill" might somehow be a reference to William the Conqueror. Granted, my suspicions are tenuous at best, and I can't explain a few things, like why they would call it "Winchester Red" in the riddle, or why AmerehK Headsman has a capitalized "K" at the end (Unless it's some sort of other clue I don't see) But think about it... a lot of interesting possible tangents, right?

Tried to figure out the third file with no luck. I did find out that Amerehk is from the same books the Baron is from. It's what they call America. That means that Big Bill has to be Taft. That also ties into S&B-322 as Taft was a member of Skull and Bones which was co-founded by his father. Winchester Red has to tie into Skull and Bones somehow...

Foilhead posted something new too:

19980 Is missing...
Did you know that 333 x 60 = 19980

My first thought was the date 9/19/80, but nothing's jumping out at me.

Regarding the 3rd file, there is quite a bit of info posted in the prior couple of pages.... I'll summarise what we have already:
Winchester Red => Bishop of Winchester => Winchester's Geese (prostitutes) => who were buried in the Skull and Bones Graveyard in Southwark (on Redcross Way). This site now has a warehouse on part of it and has had digging for the Jubilee Line (just coz most of these so far have linked back to the London Underground)

Big Bill => Taft => Skull & Bones 322 => Yale .... this group also has links to the Illuminati, Freemasons, New Word Order, American Red Cross, and pretty much most conspiracy theories out there.

We were given a prod via email at the point we had Winchester's Geese and Taft, but couldn't link them, or understand the file name:

Titled: I found a new tomb...
Text: "Sea beggers use a standard that links all three" I'm sure you can work out the obvious but nothing is never that obvious.

The Sea Beggars were a group of Dutch "privateers" or pirates => led to the original Jolly Roger - skull and bones on a red background

From this we found the link to the S&B graveyard and the S&B322 group and so the signifcance of the file name.

The newest hint "Sin is a virus" points us back to focus more on the Winchester Geese. Researching the phrase itself leads to a number of religious sites talking about original sin and so on, so don't know what that is meant to mean.

EDIT: I think the spec regarding 19980 being that Barrysimon asteroid is liekly correct. I don't like the fact it is missing. Does that mean the Corcas guys have succeeded?

Yaha, appears someone has lassoed an asteroid. Wallace has an update and Patti can't help us atm.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you but we had a power cut here it didn't come on until the early hours of the morning. Its all in the news about how Nuclear Power is no longer stable enough to keep using it, everything is being switched back to coal and oil. Did you see that Cambridge Professor on the news talking about how atoms don't break apart anymore which makes nuclear power possible, all very confusing if you ask me but it is obvious even to me that world is in crisis. I'm really frighten what might happen, I mean we all must be really.

As far as I remember we didn't have any buildings or land in Maidstone but it has been a while. We had a fair bit of land in the north though. I don't think Corcas are worried about little o me but COPS are another matter. I'm pretty sure someone is watching my flat, I haven't gone out for days now..

Yes the loss of Max Drum is a complete pain, I think he was murdered. My sources tell me that he died from anaphylactic shock brought on by a peanut allergy, he suffocated. Foilhead's sources are obviously prone to exaggeration, although I am a little worried that an asteroid is missing.

Ok. I've been pounding my head against the 3rd Token for a while now after getting this letter yesterday from Louise:

Quote:
Okay I'm not too at puzzles but lets apply a little logic shall we Wink

Why split up the quote into three different lines except to confuse us:

"Winchester Red celebrated with gals in sin til their deaths by deadly plagues"

Okay quick Google brings up: "Bishop of Winchester, a cardinal who wears 'scarlet robes' and gives 'whores indulgence to sin'." - That covers 'Red' I think

gals = women
in sin = whores (excuse my language) works with the above quote from Google
deadly plagues = What year was the Great Plague ?
Sin is a virus = whores spreading the plague?!?

"Big Bill lived in AmerehK (Moorcock's America) Headman of this land in ancient time" = Headsman = Leader = maybe President? (There is a William Taft with the same nickname)

What do they have in common, or perhaps the link between isn't the answer but just a link to the answer?!?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_Bones - Taft was a member of the Skull & Cross Bones Society

That lines up with: "Winchester Geese" They are both have Skull & Bones links - The geese from Foilhead's postcard.

That's not the password I checked.

The Baron was translating ancient texts so maybe he got the name wrong sounded like Winchester or there was another name for the "Winchester Geese"?

My connection is dicking around see if you can get to: www.shadyoldlady.com/location.php?loc=846

Tell me if you figure it out.

L.

This is mostly information that I think you guys have already figured out (It feels like the storyteller trying to help me catch up to everyone else) But the "maybe the name sounds like Winchester but was mistranslated" or the "maybe there's another name for Winchester Geese" thing seems like a new hint. I've been trying to research the Winchester Geese but so far any info I've found on them has gone fairly skin deep. Doesn't look like there's a lot of info around.

Apologies to Zobot and anyone else working on #3, but I've got it. I think that after being stumped for so long we started trying to find some complex, hidden meaning when the answer was right there in front of us.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The password is Winchelsea Geese. reesylou was the closest when you posted the shadyoldlady.com link almost a week ago.
Now, on to #4!

ARRRGH! AND I EVEN SAW THE SIGN THAT SAID "WINCHELSEA" ON IT! THE ANSWER WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I EVEN TRIED "WINCHELSEA" JUST WITHOUT THE GEESE WORD ADDED IN!

Seriously, though. I'm just being melodramatic. I'm happy that it was figured out, just jealous that it wasn't me who figured it out. Oh well! Hopefully I can help with the last one.

EDIT: Great job, everyone!

Sorry to double-post, but this needed to be brought to people's attention:

New e-mail from whoever's using F. P. Sun's account now:

Quote:
Max Drum's death has changed the path of our investigation into Corcas's
plan. Indirectly it has allowed us access to Max's own files held inside
his lab in the West Country. The files are encrypted and we are slowly
piecing them together, it would appear someone tried to wipe them before
we could create a copy.

From our initial forensics of the data it would appear that there are
six linked files which have high encryption applied. We have uploaded
the first file to the P.I.'s old website in this location:
http://www.missingwallace.net/Max

The filename has been changed only slightly to show which of the six it
is: 1-Soldier of Shen.7z

Obviously time is against us, as I am sure you are aware that 19980 is
missing. Entry into Corcas's secure underground lab is a must.

Roxie Underhill

Very weird. I was thinking that C.O.P.S was working WITH Corcas, but now this...

I have been trying to unlock the Soldier of Shen zip with no luck so far...
I was working on the assumption (obviously wrong) that the password would be the name of the correct person.
I have been using the 9 (10) Rocket Men of Shen names in various configurations...
Firstname Lastname
Firstname
Lastname
... for F P Sun I tried FPSun, F P Sun, F.P. Sun, Fred Percival Sun (and the same variants for first name only - Fred, and Fred Percival)

Hmmm

I haven't actually downloaded the file but I assume from the previous post it is passworded. Didn't Bill tell us that Shen meant Eternal?!?

Drum was connected to the Baron maybe it is something to with Moorcocks books again.

Yet again I'm stuck in traffic with a stupid work phone that sometimes works.
