Remember those theories? Slender Man tries to approximate a human appearance by ocbserving one and then Chameleon-changing until he looked like one. But what if the ones he modeled himself after were stretched-out, horribly disfigured and elongated people with their faces burned off. And only those funeral suits to go by....

I like this.

People! He never said that the trees ACTUALLY stretched them out! Just that that was the IDEA. People in those times were kinda ignorant, particularly the common folk, who would have been the ones doing this. They don't know that you would have to tie them to the meristem or what have you, they just thought it would be a freaky way to kill people!

Case closed.

THANK YOU.

Now that I have recovered from the abnormality of this entry (content-wise), I'm not as disconcerted as before. I guess the one thing I think I know for sure from this footage is that Alex isn't our friend anymore, or wasn't at this point in time. The way he was acting was just really unsettling.
I like that they are adding a bit of intrigue to the Operator, especially since they haven't really acknowledged him so much in the past.

It kind of makes me think of American Gods where
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Shadow re-enacts Odin's hanging from the World Tree.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
No spear-piercing in this story though, but if anyone doesn't want to wikipedia it:

"In Rúnatal, a section of the Hávamál, Odin is attributed with discovering the runes. In a sacrifice to himself, the highest of the gods, he was hung from the world tree Yggdrasil for nine days and nights, pierced by his own spear, in order to learn the wisdom that would give him power in the nine worlds. Nine is a significant number in Norse magical practice (there were, for example, nine realms of existence), thereby learning nine (later eighteen) magical songs and eighteen magical runes.

One of Odin's names is Ygg, and the Norse name for the World Ash —Yggdrasil—therefore could mean "Ygg's (Odin's) horse." Another of Odin's names is Hangatýr, the god of the hanged. Sacrifices, human or otherwise, in prehistoric times were commonly hung in or from trees, often transfixed by spears[citation needed]."

And yeah, I was just waiting for Alex to do something... not nice. The way he started walking behind the camera was a bit worrying.

...Am I the only one who shat bricks? Shocked

Everyone in this thread is complaining about stuff but I was terrified the entire time. The atmosphere and creepy-ass story were really well-done in my opinion. The way they didn't show Alex's face until the very end, the subtle distortion artifacts, the possible reference to the Operator as God... plus, when Alex had the camera I mistook the other figure for ToThePark, which startled the hell out of me. D:

Yup

For the other people that are suspicious about this entry: maybe this doesn't mean anything, but if J didn't post enttry #37 then why is this Entry 38? I guess for the sake of not being confusing, but it just seems strange. This should be 37.

I completely agree with this train of thought. But if he's the owner of the account he can rename the file anything he wants. This one was kind of a tease, yet somehow slightly unnerving as well. The fact that it happened before Jay even got to the hotel means we don't know wtf they've been up to. And who's blood they may have on their hands. Shocked I'm gonna try to sleep now, wish me luck.

I was just thinking that. He didn't let Entry ###### disrupt the numbering of the entries, so why did he number this one "Entry #28" instead of "Entry #37" with correct spelling and capitalization? Something is a bit off. And I know someone else pointed this out, but the way he misspelled "unlabelled" in the description is a bit unsettling as well.

So basically, the Operator is

a) a criminal from the 1800s who was stretched out via some sort of torture method involving trees, who was then burned (getting rid of his face) who lived forever and ever

b) a ghost of the above

There's a third option that pretty much everyone who's bitching about the Operator's origins being demystified is missing:

c) the entity that caused the trees that grow so fast. The villagers thought that the killings of these criminals were in honour of God. Not so. The sacrifices were for the sake of someone far worse. The tree method may have been ineffectual at stretching the victims out into the image of the Operator, but the intention was there. And watching them starve was delicious enough... at least, until the Operator had built up enough strength that it didn't need to wait for them to bring it sacrifices any more.

Or d) (maybe combined with c)) the collected evil of everyone that was executed in the forest, somehow bound into one entity?
I do like the idea that he's some kind of trans-dimensional chameleon mimicking the executed, stretched out baddies too, though.

Entry ###### was not clearly stated as "Entry 25".

Basically, he's counting Entry 37 as a real entry because he doesn't want to cause confusion over two 37's.

I STILL think he posted it himself and just doesn't realize it, because the clumsy spelling of the word "entry" matches with the way he was typing the night before.

It's funny how people didn't seem to question when doors acted like space-jumping wormholes, but now they're like, "Trees stretched people out? That can't happen!"

^this times a bajillion. reminds me of the controversy when LOST ended. lol.

i'm down to believe in the idea of people being tied to a tree in the hopes of being stretched out... only to have them die as a result from starvation/dehydration instead

punishment is punishment... and in the realm of sacrifices for any kind of god... it doesn't matter what really happens to the people... it's the process/intention of said ritual that matters far more.

Guys, I just realized something. We're nearing Entry #40. That just seems really weird for some reason.

i'm also down for some exposition as well.

nothing wrong with being few a few answers every now and then.

i still believe that the operator is an absolute... with only speculation to serve as a back story...

and unless we get a "his name was john smith from 1839 who was a family man who had a dark second life as a murderer," then i'm ok with given a speculative background that could or could not be true

I am with the people who thought this was a creepy entry. Some explanatory chatter, but still enough mystery left to keep me wondering. Is Slendy a dead criminal or an unknowable thing mistaken for a god? I kind of hope we never get a certain answer, this is enough for me. Most creepy though is Alex. What the hell is he up to and what did he do to J during those 7 months? If he was trying to be helpful it clearly didn't work very well. J is right, he isn't getting the answer quick enough, he needs to know what happened in that time before he can decide what to do and who to trust in the present. None of us knows who is trustworthy and I find that unsettling.

They are giving us lots of info this season and actually answering some questions so I'm calling it now, the next entry will have Alex getting angry and shouting "Brian is dead!" Laughing

I don't know, giving a backstory to a creepy entity isn't a bad thing, the fact that everyone is arguing about what it means is a sign of it being well done. A multiple choice past is one of the creepiest things ever, "you wanna know how I got these scars?" It was a good move so long as they don't push much further.

Besides, Alex... may not have been telling the truth, we have no idea what's even up with him right now. For all we know the next tape was him tying Jay up to a tree where he sat for 3 hours until he worked his way down (or was freed, or Alex freed him and then started being creepy and cryptic again).

My first impression though... is that this is not Alex. I think Alex might have gotten killed by our good Operator friend in those woods, and some Alex simulacrum is actually leading him to the tree where Alex is. Maybe not that, but I get the distinct feeling that it just wasn't Alex, either mentally (soundly mind warped) or physically. I also get the feeling that something REALLY bad went down after that tape went up.

Does anyone else find it kind of odd that there hasn't been a single update on Jay's twitter? No updates as to where he was, or what he's been doing... no warning that this entry was coming, and no link when it was posted?

I'm almost thinking something might have happened to him-- explaining the misspelling in the description. But then, it's probably nothing....

Also, I think everyone is missing a very possible option to explain what Alex was saying-- it was exactly what Jay said, a 'spooky ghost story' that is totally untrue. I mean, there's so many possible ways to interpret what Alex said, and then on top of that, there's the possibility that it's just silly local folklore and nothing more. Everyone needs to chill about this 'Slendy is just a ghost' thing.
