Never thought of that!

So, options:

a) SM a stretched out burnt crim.

b) SM is the spirit of a stretched out burnt crim.

c) SM is the entity in the forest which caused the trees to grow unnaturally fast.

d) SM is the collective evil/pain of the crims burnt in the forest.

e) SM is the tree upon which each criminal was tied (although, he'd have to keep switching trees. Unless he was the forest itself.)

I like how many theories we're getting. Maybe they're all right! Maybe Slendy is all of these and more! "He's the siren, he's the air raid, he's the crater/He's the menu on the table, he's the knife and he's the waiter."

That was weird.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When Alex mentions the bit about bodies getting tied to trees and getting stretched out, was anyone else reminded of The Enigma of Amigara fault?

The Slendy-backstory here seems throwaway at first, but to me somehow this gives off the possibility of there being
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
more than one Operator.

Not saying this might have actually showed itself in previous entries, just that the backstory here seems to pose that viable possibility in the MH universe.

Trying to figure out the chronology here.

Alex isn't wearing his glasses. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Alex was definitely wearing them both before and after the fight with Tim, and during his argument with Jay in the car park. This means that #38 can't have happened on the way to from the house in #35.

I think this might be a really old entry, before Alex started wearing glasses. His aggressive exploration of the forest and its associated mythology might have been what provoked the Operator in the first place.

I don't buy the theory that this happens right before #29. I'm pretty sure that #29 happens shortly after the fight in #35. In 29, Jay enters a tunnel in a wooded area and finds a bloody rock and a bloody rag, which sounds exactly like the sorts of things you'd expect to find after a fight in which someone gets their leg smashed with a rock and someone else gets stabbed. I always figured that Jay decided to go back after parting ways with Alex and see what was up with Tim. I don't know how the objects ended up in the tunnel, but secreting them in a nearby tunnel sounds like something that Alex might have done after the fight or that Tim might have even done himself.

@Nickjackal: I don't think entry 29 is a continuation of this entry, partially because I'm quite sure J doesn't have his chest cam (I tried pausing the video on J when Alex is holding the camera upside down/backwards. It's hard to get a clear picture.) and also because I don't think it was J filming entry 29 either. I just rewatched it, and it looks like the person is wearing a blue sweater, not J's trademark brown one. But that might just be me.

Same problem with Antifringe's idea about #29... where does the other camera come from?

Heh, looks like Arison beat me to that Amigara Fault comparison.

Or did he just wake up eons ago and say "I just would look fabulous in this suit!"?

Laughing

Going by what I can recall of the original SomethingAwful (I think?) take on Slender Man, if he was a tulpa-like being then he would have taken on a form that people of the time often found consistently unnerving. A long time ago that sight might have been priests in long black cassocks, but these days he wears a suit because of popular culture's fixation with MIBs and stuff like that.

Does anyone else find it kind of odd that there hasn't been a single update on Jay's twitter? No updates as to where he was, or what he's been doing... no warning that this entry was coming, and no link when it was posted?

I'm almost thinking something might have happened to him-- explaining the misspelling in the description. But then, it's probably nothing....

If this series were to end the way Within Hubris did, I will crap bricks D:

I love it when people reference JAFool Razz

Does this mean Jay's one of seven human souls Alex needs to round up, with totheark and the Operator being souls Eight and Nine respectively?

Am I allowed to say that I'm somewhat disappointed?

A new entry comes out on April 4th, and after the intense buildup, and what we've seen in #26 and enttry #37, we get a tape completely unrelated to the date?

I truly hope that Alex's story is no more than folklore indeed, and not the Operator's real backstory. Alex managed to explain fire, water (and thirst), stretched limbs *and* the Operator's malicious intentions in less than 5 sentences??

The end also felt a bit like "oh by the way, I didn't make entry 37, must have been hijacked again lol."

Considering the quality of the several last entries this one felt a step down, a bit.

TTA better respond to this one fast.

i didn't notice the glasses thing at all, interesting. could prove to be very relevant in the future, maybe alex lost his glasses in some kind of encounter or scuffle (that we haven't seen yet)

but i think this is definitely post marble hornets filming - i guess it could have happened at any point after entry 19 when J begins to film himself. (notice that J is filming himself obsessively to the point that he has to change tapes to make sure he catches everything, as well as filming a long walk where alex isnt saying anything and nothing is happening)

I hadn't even made the connection between dehydration and Tim's unusual drinking habits. Good catch. Also, I share your feelings about this entry.

That's good point. In fact, it totally demolishes my speculation. Their casual acceptance of the need for constant taping proves that this is taken from the post-Operator era. It also means that Alex and Jay have met more than once in the period between season 1 and season 2.

I do think this entry happened after #36. Alex didn't want Tim to follow them to somewhere - I'm assuming to where they just went.

I..mostly enjoyed this entry, but I raeged a little on the inside that it cut off so soon. GAH.
Actually it's prolly best that way, builds the suspense. But ffff I want mooreee

ANYHOW I definitely don't think Slendy is one of the victims that got stretched.

I am feeling that something more along the lines of awakeasaurusrex's theory (he is the entity that made the trees grow so fast) is true. This would be a lot more scary, and imo it would make more sense than "lol Slenderman is ghost you guys"

Or that the story Alex told is irrelevant. I don't think that is the case though, honestly.

I wonder why it started going after kids though?

Very sinister ending almost if Alex wanted to sacrifce him. If this is true then it could back up the theory that Tim is trying to help Jay and hurt Alex.

I think this provided just enough exposition to give Slendy as reason to be afraid of since people are asking if he's an antagonist, but offers many options as to what Slendy could be. We've already said he could be the tree, could be the god, could be the criminal, could've been a child molestor, and could've been a ghost.

We still don't know, but it's interesting as hell to know what he could most likely be.

I've. Never. Read. Just. Another. Fool. That is the response you get if your Razz is an eye roll. If it's- if it's anything else, I'm just using the same response with a little bit at the end about sore muscles making me grumpy. Also, I know you quoted awakeasaurusrex, but their post was in response to something I said and I don't want to be seen as mixing continuities.

Wow. WOW!!!
Just downloaded the video (shhh don't tell youtube) - if you watch the upside down footage frame by frame
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
OOG: LOL they aren't even walking for most of the shaky part - they just keep the sound going.

the way Jay is just standing there looking at the camera ... it's really creepy. REALLY creepy. His head is turned on an angle and everything (see if I can get a screen dump going).
Also if you pause it around the 32 second mark you see some upside down towers ... is this the same red tower from season 1?

I completely doubted any chance of Slendy sighting under the tree, but at about 1:57 there's some distortion ... but no Slendy Sad
Maybe the big tree at the end is a representation of Slenderman but ... yeah open to interpretation i guess.

Can't get screeny to fit decent screen size. But pause at 32seconds.

I really think there might be something in the misspelt words everyone. Try looking for anagrams. I've been going through it for a while now and have been able to come up with some odd words.
pursuing, unable, tta .... I know there's a lot of letters (47 in fact if you include the punctuation) and you can make pretty much anything you like, the fact is I think there is something there to make us look a little harder. I'll keep on it tomorrow but please have a look yourselves. Thanks.
