I knew Steven Lisberger had a cameo as the bartender, but according to that site, his character had a name:Shaddix.
I didn't know that.

Interesting bit of trivia that is....

There's a character Shaddox who's given a little bit of backstory in the interquel graphic novel Tron: Betrayal. Perhaps they're one and the same character?

Collider.com just brought up a good point in a recent article discussing this very thing: Sean Bailey, Producer of TRON: Legacy is now the head of Productions at Disney. This means that the man in charge of deciding what goes into productions has personal stake in this project meaning that the chances of TRON 3 being green lit are slightly higher, even if it doesn't quite match box office expectations.

Harry Knowles is already reporting greenlight is getting close given the almost $300M worldwide plus untold merchandise sales.

The Grapevine says, Disney is about to Green Light a TRON LEGACY sequel

Hopefully there will be enough there for Disney to go forward with a sequel...

Again, don't forget all the other franchise products, as well as dvd/bluray. I predict dvd sales will be big, especially if they do a collector's edition box set (with some quality bonuses/collectibles).
Considering we're getting a Legacy / The Original Classic Five-Disc Combo in Identity Disc Collectible Packaging, it's almost a given. Very Happy

I think that given the fact theres an animated series coming out made by Disney, and a mass of merchandise, chances are that Disney will develop this on two fronts, with the TV series being for younger fans and the movies being full on hardcore Sci-Fi groundbreaking visual spectacles.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, Tron Legacy has made $396million worldwide. If it cost about $170mil to make, and another $170mil in marketing, that means it made about $60mil, which is better than Mars Needs Moms, which had a similar (but slightly less) production budget (no idea on what the marketing budget was).

Since Disney is doing an animated series (which will have toys, etc. tied to it, too), AND the totals above don't factor in DVD/Blu-ray sales, I think it's safe to say that Disney is coming away with lots of money from this. Sure, nothing like Tangled, Toy Story 3, etc., which certainly had a better return on the investment, but Tron Legacy didn't do too badly. Since the cartoon will help keep interest alive, I think it will be pretty likely there will be a Tron 3.

I certainly hope there will be one, anyway, but at least some of the facts involved do line up with the potential for having another movie made.
