Thanks for the info on ectoplasm, iomiomai. I knew mediums used cheesecloth to create the effect, but it had never occurred to me that they were successful because that's what people expected real ectoplasm to look like. Because I am dumb.

Are you talking about the mythical external hard drive that's been referenced a couple of times, or the flash drive that was found while Jeff went walkabout?[1] I seem to recall that Jeff gave kind of a hand-wavey explanation for the flash drive recently, but I can't recall what it was and may just be misremembering something.

[1] Speaking of, I just realized last night that Jeff's trip "down south" was probably to Jim Thorpe, PA, since that's where Widow Corenthal was killed and, therefore, probably where she was living when Jeff went to visit her. Looking at the map, that's not really plausible. I'm seeing four options:

A) She moved sometime between Jeff's trip and her death at the claws of the Rake
B) Jeff went somewhere else, more southerly, after visiting her
C) There's been a minor retcon
D) I'm misremembering something important, which is not unlikely

Widow Corenthal wasn't the one killed.

That would be D, then.

Embarrassingly, I have labored under that mistaken belief ever since the Rose article was released. It never once occurred to me that it would be odd for Jessie's uncle to have been married to her grandmother.

I think I'm referring to the flash drive the others found - isn't that what has the hidden videos on it that are slowly decrypting?

Whichever is which, the question remains, who brought it to our present time.

There are two flashdrives -- the one Evan and Vince found, which has the 78 videos, and another flashdrive sent to Evan that had the security footage of Alex being Rake'd. I think we can safely assume the source of both is the same.

The physical drive doesn't need to have moved through time. Let's examine some trees:

1) Assuming that the leaked vids will come true we know that the people inside the ark can see the internet in this reality, so they have some means of interacting with electronics and electronic signals.

2) We know Slendy can distort electronic signals, perhaps willingly, perhaps just as a side effect, so it is reasonable that someone else could harness that aspect of his abilities.

3) Most established sci fi that deals with alternate futures or seers use the trope that as the foreseen event gets nearer the ability to "see" it gets clearer. The more pieces that lead to said event that have fallen into place, the better the seer can see the coming event.

So.... adding that up... the drive exists here, and has always existed here, but the CONTENT is being manipulated from the future, and as the events draw nearer the more complete (re: Uncorrupted) the files become.

I could be wrong, but I thought that the only corrupted files on the flash drive were 78 and 77 of 76. I thought the first 76 (the ones that should be in a 76-file drive) were just the stuff that Jeff edited together into ADiTL. I keep reading people speaking of other corrupted files, but I don't think those exist. At least not on that flash drive. Maybe on the one sent to Evan.

Well, here the issue remains - how can we connect back to the user/uploader? It may be totally impossible but the idea is out there. Why send this unless there was a purpose behind it for the uploader?

Have any of the Hidden Videos shown us stuff from the future(that we know of)?

You mean besides the hidden videos? There's been rampant speculation for a while that the hidden ones have clips from the future, which seems to have been borne out by 77of76.

The problem with that is that the guys apparently don't remember the events of 77of76, which would have almost certainly happened during "Last Week/Taking It Back."

Have they confirmed that?

I'm not crapping on the alternate future stuff, I just don't see how the 0f76 videos have shown anything but what has already happened?

What I was getting at with the Hidden(I mean the morse) videos is that as far as the stuff we can identify, we know it's already happened(duh). What I wonder if we can apply this to the stuff we haven't been able to place(the water stuff, baghead, evan in the ward. As in, I think we've kinda assumed that the water stuff was either figurative stuff...or things to come. Maybe we can make some headway if we start assuming that it's already happened.

I'm sure they can see 77/76, the the UStream right before they posted it they said something along the lines of the other video on the USB key suddenly becoming uncorrupted and them being able to view it, subsequently mentioning they would upload it immediately afterwards.

The point I was questioning was the "Do they remember the events of 77of76.

I mean, from a storyline standpoint...I don't understand why they wouldn't. Nothing happens. They're just walking, presumably to the parking lot to meet Vince.

We've already established that no one remembers 77/76, or 78/76 for that matter.

When it comes to the morse code videos, I agree that it might be easier if we just thought of them as something that's already happened. Since everyone is alive and well, I think it would also be helpful if we thought of it as happening in an alternate universe, along with the 76 videos.

Their presence in this context can mean plenty of things, but going with the theory that their source is whoever is trapped in the ARK, I think it might be helpful to think of them as warnings. The footage of the boys drowning each other is a warning to us, telling us what might happen if we don't help, or screw up the help: that they'll turn on one another and kill each other. (I'm working on the assumption that the morse code videos are strictly for our visual consumption, re: the crew's reaction in The Hidden Videos.)

As for the 76 videos, we only see a few minutes of their situation. There is probably plenty more that happened that we never saw. We don't know how they got off the beach, we don't know what happened after they got to the big tree.

When did this happen? Did they confirm in an email?

Agreed Luipaard, I'm now thinking those do come from something like "the Ark," and the uploaders are - well, up for debate. But there's only so much we can do on this end, with the guys - we have to try and find a way to get in touch back. We've done what we can through twitter. And maybe there is nothing we can do, but it's worth the thought.

@Ouroborus,

qaqa wrote:
Incidentally, I haven't heard back but it seems the last email I sent re: 77of76 was probably repetitious. Cougar Draven informs me that our question about it was asked and answered a while ago and that no, Jeff and co. apparently do not recall filming that material at all. So, my bad for repeating it. They also apparently confirmed that the mystery USB drive was slowly making the video files available to them.

@qaqa, thanks man. Totally agreed with you too. Very Happy
