I am not an ARG person, this is the first one I have ever followed, but I hope that the characters that we have spent all this time getting to know will somehow be in the game, and in the plotline of halo 2 otherwise it is just something to fill my interest in the halo universe (like the books).

Yeah, I thought about adding XBox ownership categories. But from the PMs point of view, their job is to promote Halo 2 - to them it probably just matters whether the ARG affected your decision to buy Halo 2.

its made me want to own the game much more than before, because we've been so emotionally invested in these characters, i'm really hoping that some of them will at least be referenced in-game, or have cameos. i feel like we've all been sucked into this world, and playing through the single player game will just cement that world a little more in my mind. i also want to play online, because i don't want to lose the communication and community that we've developed on the boards, i want to stand next to you guys in co-op, taking down Covies together

I've played Halo through on PC by myself on Legendary several times (I'm going through with the Pistol and Plasma pistol only now. ), and to be honest, I was going to wait until Halo2 came to PC.
However... I'm going to surprise myself by admitting that I've already subconciously started saving for November9th.. which also happens to be the day of my last exam. And it will be the day which I waltz down to EBGames and pick up an Xbox and Halo2...
Why? Because I can't bear to put myself through the torture of the weeks, months, years even before it arrives on PC. This ARG has made sure of that. (Bastards. Every single one of you who created this thing. Look at what you're making me do! Give you my money so you can earn your living! Bastards. )
.. yeah, I suck. I know.

Did the ARG work? Oh Yeah!! But for a diffrent reason. I had my pre-order in place before the ARG started. But the ARG succeeded in keeping me distracted until Nov is just around the corner.

Had my special edition copy preordered since June. Have read the books multiple times, and beaten Halo more than I can count. This ARG has been a great way to just listen to people, get to know them, and have a good time to pass the time.
Who knows, maybe the whole purpose of this ARG is to develop a community for online play? Most people who are going to play Halo2 have been talking about forming a clan already
I'm already on live..Name is SurplusShihtzu..Look me up if you want
P.S. Don't watch the special features disc from the Halo2 special edition until you have beaten the game..It contains a lot of spoilers.

I'd pre-ordered my Limited Edition copy of Halo 2 in May. I got my Xbox in early August, after profit-share at work. Yes, for me Halo 2 was nearly a $350 CAD video game. (Except that I also picked up the platinum KOTOR too. Thank you, BioWare.)
However, I found the ARG to be enormous fun and has encouraged my interest in Halo 2 peripheral items (novels etc.) to further my knowledge of the storyline. I understand that a Halo comic may be in the works, and that'd get me buying again.
Throw in the press attention and I think that the marketing aspect's been well covered.
-- Steve seconds the caution to folks with Halo 2 LE.... DON'T WATCH THE DVD FIRST! It's got (some of? all of?) the cinematics on it, and that'll spoil the storyline pretty badly right off the hop.

There's more? [sacrcasm]Wait. So, you're saying there's a sequel to Halo -- a so-called "Halo 2 "? Sounds like a vicious rumor to me, but you never can tell.[/sarcasm]

I didn't see any [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] tags on that... I hope it was sarcasm

I'll second Spec-trum's post... I've had mine pre-ordered for months, both the regular and SE versions, beaten Halo uncountable times, still playing multiplayer with friends, finishing up First Strike, and I'm already on Live...
And I'll second the other comment that this ARG is successful in a different way for me - passing the time in a flash for the months before H2's release... It's already been almost 2 months since the game started!!
jeez... creepy

I would have bought it anyway, but the game has been a blast and of course I've talked about it to friends. Most of them probably would have bought the game anyway as well, but you never know. Word of mouth is powerful.
And ultimately I'd bet Bungie is getting a ton of very low cost word of mouth advertising via ILB.
Plus, I'm a lot more excited about the halo universe as a whole and where it might go in the future.
This is my first ARG too, and its been a blast. I find it hard to consider ever getting this excited about another one though for some reason. I guess this has set the bar really high.

I'd agree... I don't know if it's just the genre of the arg, but regenesis (so far) hasn't interested me nearly as much as ilovebees... and I personally received the rabbithole... maybe the game just hasn't started yet... but just reviewing what's there right now, it's hard to distinguish what's IG and OOG as far as what to explore. Whereas, ILB is pretty much entirely self-contained... it's very different. and regen will probably end by the 24th (when the tv series airs)

Thanks, Spec-trum and Anton, for this info. I would have totally busted into the DVD during the breaks I'll give my XBox.

I've had my Limited Edition copy pre-ordered and I'm trying to save up for Live as well. I'm a Halo-freak, though, so I ordered mine as soon as Halo 2:LE was available. This ARG keeps me well entertained and so far is doing a great job speeding me through the weeks towards November 9th. It also opened up a whole new world in the Haloverse, which I love. I couldn't put down the books when I first bought them, and this game has the same effect on me. Kudos to the PMs.
