Funny. She asked me what we are to reveal, I answered "The Truth" and she hung up on me. On the next call, I just said "Truth" and it was accepted.

Is the theory that live calls are awarded to large population centers? I'm starting to give up hope of this ever being an interactive game for me.

Ouch. Sorry you got dumped for using an article.

I'm not sure what the theory is. Here in Wisconsin, Madison gets *tons* more axons than in Milwaukee (we get one) despite the fact that the metro Milwaukee area has a much larger population (1.8 million versus about a half million). So clearly there's not a consistent correlation between population size and number of axons.

That said, I think that the cities where, in the beginning, the axons were answered earlier and more consistently, now get more axons.

But, as far as it relates to live calls, I have no idea how they choose.

Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking with Her Operatorness despite the fact that it's the only axon in Milwaukee, while it appears that some cities where there were multiple axons may not have gotten live calls.

I think they're trying to get live calls to as many people as is reasonable -- that's why, once you've talked to Melissa, you get a recorded call to your cell phone.

So, my advice is keep answering your axon(s) and you've got a decent chance of getting a live call.

Gloat while you can, my dear partner-in-axon-crime.

Anyway, Phaedra got herself so psyched out that we would NOT get a call, she didn't handle it so well when we did.

That's an understatement if I ever heard one. I lost all ability to think on my feet. I had to spend the rest of the night armchair-quarterbacking the vice-presidential candidates in their debates, supplying all the snappy one-liners they should have come up with and castigating them for not pouncing on their opponents' inconsistencies, to restore my self-esteem.

Also, about 3 minutes before the call someone accidentally called our payphone instead of the Chinese place we were at. We nearly fainted. Surprised

That was actually the funniest part. Here I am, counting down the minutes until the payphone's supposed to ring, and (actually it was) 2 minutes before the call is supposed to come, it rings.

I literally freak. She's early?!?!?

It turns out to be some elderly woman trying to get the Chinese place. She's apologizing for calling the wrong number and asking me for the right one, and I'm silently screaming for the love of Pete, woman, get OFF THE PHONE!

It was very stressful.

The success of Team Boise seems to refute this theory.

And the consistant calls to Macon,GA definitly refutes it.

The live calls SEEM to go to the places that have most frequently had successful axons. Also, last Tuesday, perhaps due to the timed nature of the "Passcode" axon spikes, the live calls were coming in almost exactly 20 minutes intervals. It's hard to say whether this has been the case in the past, because "when" the live calls happened in previous weeks didn't matter as much as the fact that they happened at all.

Yeah, and that's why I'm just not going to use them anymore. "Hey, hand me screwdriver", "you are such jerk", et al.

What heck, it's not like I'm master of English language.

Just how live were they?

I am begining to doubt a bit if the Live Calls some of us recieved were all that live.

First, as I was interacting with Melissa, her responses seemed a little stilted and pre-recorded. There really isn't anything I can call evidence to back it up, just a gut feeling. She didn't sound as live as the first live calls we heard.

Second, she told me that I wasn't part of the crew and hung up on our Axon, yet our Axon still went hot, and all of the Davis beekeepers who spoke to her are part of the crew. (Not that I am complaining mind you, I'll take my membership in her crew gladly.)

Sounds like she hung up on you for not having the correct code -- this happened quite a bit last Tuesday. And as for sounding "stilted and pre-recorded" this is most likely because she's reading from a script and having to tailor it to make sense with your responses. As anyone who's had to do telemarketing can tell you, that's not the easiest thing to do, less so, I imagine, when you're playing a character.

Akondo Bob - I can say 100% that you are wrong. She totally messed up during my call and kept stumbling over her words. it was in a way that a was way too human. (See my transcripts earlier in this thread)

I agree that she's not a recording in a "live" call. Her reactions and replies to what I was saying were to "on the ball", as it were, to have been a recording... I suppose it's possible they pre-recorded certain bits of dialogue, like the questions and the explanation of the pass phrases. (To help save the poor worman's voice.) But for the most part I'm certain I was talking to a sentiant being.

Now if you'll excusing me...

I've done telemarketing before, and I can tell you, reading from a script is harder than thinking on the fly. Especially if you're looking down at the script while you're doing it. I must have done the sales pitch five thousand times by the end of the job, but I still mucked it up occasionally, more often when I didn't go from memory, and glanced down at my notes. Go figure.

As for "stilted and pre-recorded", she replied to my nickname with genuine surprise. It's not like the PM's can expect an AI from the future to be told on the phone what Nerf balls are, so why would they script questions for it? And even if it was pre-recorded, someone would have to be there, pushing buttons for the right question, and that's a LOT of buttons to remember that quickly.

... Mental note:

Do a search later to find whatever story Dragonrider is talking about here. Because obviously, I've missed something good.
