Dunno I'm no good with codes, but I got a couple of interesting tibits regarding serephim from a friend of mine who used to be a divinity student...

Quote:
Six wings, one pair for flying, one covers their eyes, and another their feet.

They shield their eyes while guarding God to keep from burning up in His glory, but at the same time people need to shield their eyes from them.

It's theorized that Gab-riel and Mich-ael are both Seraphim as well as Arch Angels.

Most Angelogy is apocryphal since the Bible tell us next to nothing about them beyond their roles as messengers. It's not even made clear if the creatures guarding God's throne are even angels or something else.

I don't know if that's any more helpful than the wiki article previously posted, but there you go.

i tried using "intiate" as the keyword to unlock it and that didn't work. maybe it has a couple levels to it. wondering about the slash marks.

and thank you, YOU, for posting the story so far stuff!

where's enaxor? Smile

The upper/lowercase letters from the written words on the notes are as follows:

HITSVICEHINTIATE

ostilendirectereirn

I've been trying to come up with something from either string, but with no luck.

just wanted to pipe in to say again how much i'm enjoying this one...it has a great strong narrative, style...love the art...wish I had time to devote to cracking puzzles Sad

so seraph means burning ones....don't forget about the windmill fire!

Those strings of upper and lower case letters... they look almost like sentences, jumbled up. In the lower case ones, I can almost make out the words "listen" and "direct" but that's it...

I may be barking up a wrong tree, but what if it's not a cypher? What if it's just words forming a sentence, all jumbled up or something?

maybe I'm pointing out the obvious:

but peeps realize the notched codes all come in two sets of 5?

|†||| |||†|
Hostile

||††| |||||
In direcT ServICE

‡|||| |||||
Heir

||||† ||† ||
INiTIATE

maybe we need to look at codes that use 5's and/or 10's? I know solitaire cipher does...but I don't get that vibe here

could these in any way relate to the tiles?

and mad props to you. for all the notes collected

good idea, cyng! i think you've hit on a path for us. (hoping) just went searching around for ciphers that use patterns of 5's and hit on the Playfair cipher. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playfair_cipher i'm going to work on it BUT i'm dreadful at figuring out puzzles, so feel free to jump in here. Cool

Thanks labfly and cyng - wasn't sure if my notes were useful to anyone other than myself Smile

I really wish I didn't have to run right now and spend some more time on this - but here is something for everyone to possibly consider:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernam_cipher#Vernam.27s_patent

The same principle can be used in simple binary and XORing that. I.E.

01000 00010 Hostile
00110 00000 In direcT ServICE

etc - perhaps working with that will lead somewhere...

Hopefully will have time to spend on this tonight!

Anyone else find it extremely coincidental that the word "lurelei" can be seen in the vertical string of text on the seraph note?

I know it's not spelled the same, but it struck me as something very interesting, none the less. I know it was confirmed that the two were separate, but now things like this will irk me. GAH!

Also, is it possible that Tom gave us a clue regarding that text? He mentioned that it looked like someone fell asleep on the keyboard, and I had noted earlier that the first 4 letters were the first of the keyboard. Perhaps those letters are to be omitted? Are there other letters that are in keyboard succession? I'll have to look into this more later tonight.

yeah, i'm seeing a lot of words too, or rather parts of words, which is why i have been batting around with the playfair cipher today. i took away the Q's but having trouble working the playfair cipher. (not sure if i should also remove J's and I's) i tried to decode with an online tool using seraph for a keyword and then initiate for a keyword, but it didn't work for me.. yet. posting these random glimpses of words. maybe someone else might have a eureka about it. Don't have a lot of time, but just noticed that the 'fire' behind the image of the seraph seems to be a different image - the lines and quality are somewhat different. Not sure if that has meaning, but it seems like it's a composite image.

just another thought

my knowledge about angels is a little rusty...but I'm pretty sure seraphs were the ones that announce: "holy holy holy" before god

is it possible that holy could be a key phrase to the cipher?

*and I know nothing about cipher's

:/
