I'm actually reading "The Fall of Reach" right now. Dr. Hasley hand picks John when he is 6yrs old. He is a guy. This is fact.
Alright... becuase i havent read that... I'll just have to go with you on this.
Also, if Jan was the Master Chief she'd have to be either on route to Halo or on Halo *right now* as the destruction of reach happens immediately before the events of the first game.

Could it be that the guy who originally interrupted Jan's juice to ask a favor of her was working for Thin all along, and only asked her to do it so she could legitimately be on Thin's bad side? Thin knowing, all along, that if he kidnapped her, tortured her, and didn't do much in the way of privatizing it, that J^2 would show up to the rescue?
What if, and this is a big if, someone (say, Standish?) were pulling Thin's strings this whole time?

I really like this idea. I should probably go back and listen to the first Thin-Jan encounter but I don't remember what she did causing enough harm to Thin's business that he needs to torture Jan and whack her dad as payback. Maybe small time crime bosses are extra tough in the future but the punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime (so to speak) in this case. There has to be a bigger conspiracy in effect here.

wow, this thread was only on page 13 when last I saw!!! I am amazed at how hard certain tragic events remain so difficult to swallow. I, too, wish it were not true, but I think we all know the flash clone option is impossible (and grateful this weeks clips bring this fact to the forefront again) It does seem from the tone that we are generally now starting to accept the "truth" (as much as I would love a loophole to allow another truth.)
and pDK, thanks for the laugh... even if we have not read the books to confirm the gender, do we not hear John's voice in game of Halo 1?

i think Thin sees the potential that Jan holds. He wants her on his team, but he knows that:
1) she's far too good to ever join him
2) she's so dangerous that if she did become one of his minions, she'd quickly kill him and take over the operation herself
so he has to break her mentally, to make her his slave so she'll never turn on him
as for Jan actually BEING Master Chief........ ahem...........
*whew*
ok.... gotta get this right.........................

Now the recipe3 files need to be finished. There's only 2 of them. How hard can it be? Is there something wrong with the payphones at those locations? Or can nobody just get to them?

After the Moons showdown she took out an entire operation of Thin's which centered around a guy named Gene aka "Optical".
See Comatas.html and the transcript: http://www.thebruce.ca/ilovebees/TheAxons_Jan.asp#C4S1
At the end of that passage Gene's cousin warns her that Thin is really pissed. Also, Thin probably sees Jan as one hell of a potential asset if he can get her to work for him.

If they gave them to me, I'd nail 'em.
Hear that PMs? Downtown Charlotte can get those remaining recipe3s.
Carry on.

Dunedin, New Zealand can get them as well...
.. oh wait. Damn.
@ krystyn, tho. It seems a shame to see people continually asking questions like "How hard can it be".. imagine if the PMs hadn't reprogrammed the coordinate that was in the sea..

I would imagine the enhancements Jan received would be more advanced than JJ's, as they occured many years later. I would also imagine that JJ is perhaps not as young and active as he used to be. He was also distressed by Jan's torture. Maybe those things are reason enough.. maybe they aren't.
(And before anyone chimes in with John-117's age, remember he's received many more enhancements than JJ, and is usually wandering around in a suit of MJOLNIR armour.)
Jan has received no enhancements. J^2 has kept a watchful eye over her ever since she was born and in fact shot people who were trying to take her when she was 6. Since then he has been on th emove with her and watching her. At no point has she had a chance to be augmented.
What Jan got is what she inherited from being the child of two people who were manipulated.
--------
It is quite possible she would be of LESSER strength than either her mother and father, as it is very rare for a trait to be passed down at 100% of the parents. I imagine J^2 would have little trouble with the restraints Jan was in considering how easily he ripped through the net.

This is incorrect. Jan did get enhancements. "Cochlear tuning" "enhanced muscle density", etc. it's in the recipe 1 wavs.
Edit : added link to transcipts

I didn't mean it the way it sounds. I am just really curious as to why they've been missed the last few weeks. I might have missed something but I don't think anbody has mentioned why they might be being missed. I am just curious, definitely not accusing people of slacking or not trying, it would be silly to even try and imply it. Because it is obvious people aren't, a lot of people are going out of there way to get them.
