Well, I think the image of the seraphim may have come from "Petites Heures de Jean de Berry" as it looks quite similar (facial expression and flaming background aside). The image depicts the seraphim choir, who were the ones to sing "holy holy holy" on repeat. Both the image I'm talking about and some info on the choir is here: http://www.angel-ology.com/The_Seraphim_Choir.html
An ex-member of this group was Lucifer/Satan. Perhaps this is what is being indicated with the "flaming seraphim"?

Thomas said this about the string of letters >
Quote:
Yes, I am feeling better, thanks. With the letters, I wouldn't even think it was a code except for the other one. It seems so random, and there aren't any spaces.

of course it makes me think even more that its playfair and we should be creating "spaces" by pairing up the letters. i will have another go at it later tonight.

I really don't think it's a Playfair cipher - breaking it up in to digraphs (pair the letters by two) would show that there is a double "A" towards the end - which wouldn't be possible in a Playfair encrypted message - and it obviously can't be the encryption key as it goes way beyond 25 characters...

I think we will have to look at it from a different direction...

I sent Thomas an email about this, but a weird comment appeared on his April 6th blog entry...

I'm not sure if it's IG or someone trying to be funny. We'll see how Thomas handles it.

Judging by him removing it and his latest tweet, it looks like it's unrelated and OOG

i'm not convinced it is OOG

if it was oog the PM would more likely have removed it and not said a thing since none of us had noticed it

but twice now he brings it up

it could be nonsense, or it could be an in game character which at any rate the character would be responding negatively to it

however i hope it wasnt in game...as the comment was a "tad" on the cheezy side

I even tried using a Dvorak keyboard layout, but didn't come up with anything useful.

Alec,

I ended up using your photo as inspiration for my painting 'March of the Red Rook'. As promised, I am offering it for sale to you first. The painting is 6x8 inches, on acrylic paper. The price would be $30 USD plus shipping. Attached is a preview. Please let me know what you think!

Tom

I've been following this kind of loosely, and this is my first solve. I deciphered note 3 after I noticed something in the new post.
Quote:
For those of you who have been looking into the meaning of the last note I received, my advice is just throw the stupid letters out.

The solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The bolded phrase is a double meaning. As you probably noticed, the first 4 letters of the code are gibberish, straight from the keyboard. First I tried taking every 5th letter, but that didn't work. However, if you notice the tick marks on the note, the 5th and then 3rd mark have lines through them. This is a clue to take the every 5th, then 3rd, letter of the code.
"QWERSMOTWOPLREFAPBOSNMQGCLURELEIANTPNOOUCIHYPJSSRURDTQAAVSIOTWAE"
And you get Strangeinupstate

Great find! Strangeinupstate doesn't appear to lead to anything as a URL ending, but i may be wrong there. Very interesting that the hash marks have appeared on a number of notes now, but they've only come into play in the solution for this one. The first news article was a direct solve with missing letters, the second one used missing letters with "heir" as a vignere keyword.

Great solve! Now how can we apply the hash marks to the other notes? Btw, I'm the one who sent the bridge picture and have agreed to purchase the painting from Tom. It was taken in December '09, in the Columbia River Gorge just below Multnomah Falls. The Falls and the stream under the bridge were frozen at the time.

Recurring theme

I've been following this along for quite some time. I'm still working out some of the puzzles and entertaining my own theories. There seems to be a recurring theme I would like advice on.

The idea of "below"

First seen on the error 404 page. It is obviously an important word.

The first words on the page "Et in Arcadia Ego" is usually displayed with a tomb. What is the significance? Perhaps for /newsclip.jpg. Covered by the stone floor.

One of his paintings "March of the Red Rook". Being the H.P. Lovecraft fan he is, this is most likely a reference to "The Horror at Red Hook". There is a memorable basement scene in this novel.

The Seraphim, a class of angels that Lucifer belonged to. The one who was sentenced "below".

I have asked Mr. Pickman about the Roosting Bridge as I am unfamiliar what this name may play off of.

On a side note, I noticed the first puzzle of monde and sine seems to have not been solved. At this time, it does not appear to be a large piece of information. Monde referring to world and sine being a math equation dealing with the opposite side of a given angle. Could it possibly refer to the opposite of the world?

Note:
"not dead but" reminds me of a sermon.

Edit: Link to passage: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+5%3A21-43&version=NIV

"The child is not dead but sleeping."

I'm also on the unfiction IRC, so please feel free to contact me.
