Sorry, but I just remembered something.

In the Halo mythos, making an AI requires a copy of a person's personality. Someone mentioned how this causes the death of the subject. It doesn't!

Cortana is based off of Dr. Halsey's personality. Dr. Halsey, obviously, is still quite alive and well.

And it couldn't have been a flash-clone child, either.

Brain cells alter over time. The brain begins pretty much like a blank slate; few complex connections between the individual cells. As experiences are accumulated, the cells reconfigure themselves, making more connections and whatnot. A person's brain as a child does not resemble that person's adult brain.

Just FYI.

It does state in the books, The Fall of Reach, that Cortana is made from a flash clone of Halsey's brain. I believe over at HBO (halo.bungie.org) in their informational pages they state that.

This seems to be happening frequently.
Recall the first instance here, and a couple of threads away from yours here

Should we merge threads, so that we can take a closer look at a sequence of these files, and try to make some connections?

Or no?

I'd at least merge the 2 concurrent threads. Not sure about dredging up the old puzzle thread.

I've merged two similar topics, so maybe we can look at several .wavs and see if we can pull out a little more information from Durga .wavs ...

...are you sure?

I mean, it has been a while since I read the books, so it's a deffinate possiblity that I've forgotten things.

and if so, I retract my above statement Smile

Cortana was based on a flash clone of Dr. Halsey's brain. I can confirm it, it's in the books.

Just so we're on the same page...

Great spec, keep it coming. But just so we're on the same page, Dr. Halsey was indeed the brain from which Cortana was made. However, it is unprecedented that she's still alive, and, that Cortana was made from a flash-cloned brain. It seems the Dr. was experimenting with cloning individual organs, as opposed to an entire donor. Plus, she still says it took twenty brains before they got the one that was intact enough to use for the process. Flash cloning is even more unstable than regular cloning, therefore it has more failures. High odds, that, if you read up on cloning.

So really, Cortana is both a miracle of science (if there is such a thing) and a fluke.

Oh, yes, they do copy the memories as best as they can, though I tend to agree with people who say the memories are mostly destroyed either by process or purpose (for Cortana, the essence of Halsey's experiences was deemed neccessary for the AI's job and interface with the SPARTAN of her choice). I don't think they want them, really, in the AI, for "emotional" reasons. It would be interesting to see what might come about if Durga/Melissa really is Yasmine, considering Durga is so curious about Kamal despite the reflection. Family, indeed. Farewell.

People make my head hurt.

Rani can't be Durga's AI doner. DURGA IS OBSERVING RANI!

Yasmine probably was stolen for SPII program, then her body fails (remember J^2 mentioning the people with the bones like pretzels, Yasmine, in all likelyhood, didn't survive the program) so what do they do with the brain of this militarily trained near-super-human? Throw it in the AI machine thats what!

I don't mean to be rude, but really, the above spec has a long track record, that has yet to be disproven by new info, see below link.

OK, I searched and found nothing, so I'm asking here...has anyone listened to the you_owe_me wav file and tried to listen to what the male voice is saying (not Jersey & Durga, the voice in the background). It's easy to hear there's a voice, it's just tough to make out what is being said. If anyone had the technological wizardry to remove Jersey & Durga from the wav file - that would be awesome. Alternatively, can anyone with really good ears hear what is being said?

The very beginning sounded like "for a grand splash."

I amplified it and it pretty clearly sounds like that.

I think it's just supposed to be a TV or radio in the background. It sounds like a horse race.

The background noise is only in the left speaker and these are bits that i'm pretty sure i can hear in background. It definitely sounds like a radio, or that they are listening in on some dispatch....

-"....branch blanch, Roger...."
-"...has been arrested by .... police."
-".....Cleveland, Ohio. Officials tried to ........., but CIA.... "

I'll keep trying to decipher the entire background broadcast....

A couple of things I wanted to point out from The Fall of Reach.

In the first edition of the book on page 236, it explains that Cortana was formed not from a flash-cloned brain from Dr. Halsey, "At Dr. Halsey's insistence, ONI had arranged to have her own brain carefully cloned and her memories flash-transfered to the receptible organs. "

That is not the same as flash-cloning a brain for an A.I.

Also, and I can't find the correct quotation from the book at the moment, but at one point in The Fall of Reach, it says something along the lines of, "and A.I.s, like officers, were in short supply," suggesting that the UNSC may resort to somewhat extreme measures to obtain healthy brains for A.I.s to fight the Covenant.

Archon: Refer to the point where Keyes takes the Iroquis out, pg138. That's where it's mentioned.

It's also mentioned that initially, the PoA had *two* AIs - did anybody else spot that in Fall of Reach? Keyes is told that Cortana is online, and that they have their own AI for controlling other things like the 50mm Point Defence weapons. (I dislike how they call them "single ships" in Halo, instead of "fighters" like they should be. Razz.. anyway..)

We never recovered or destroyed the second one in Halo - could that be how the Covenant located Earth? Ooopsies on Keyes/MCs part.

I Believe that was covered in "the flood" (halo book). but thats only because it came up somewhere else and I cant find it yet. but, anyhow.. the Other AI coordinated with all those marines and etc from the PoA while on halo, but was still destroyed in the destruction of Halo. Anyone have links?

.. I think you're thinking of Wellesly, and he was Silva and the Marine's "dumb" AI.. which is why Silva was worried that he wouldn't be able to fly the TaR off of Halo without Cortana - which proved to be, sadly, unecessary. (Did you feel sorry for McKay? I did. Sad )
