They look like they could be parts of a geiger counter.
Here's a pic from the clip and a geiger counter from http://www.quicktest.co.uk/geiger_counter.htm :
(Although I guess the tube thing could be a pepper mill or cheese grater to go along with the salad tongs - maybe they just had lunch.)

So has anyone ELSE out there received a package like this with the Super 8 film reel in it? I was expecting them to send out multiple packages like this with more codes to unlock things, but I haven't heard of a single person receiving anything today besides slashfilm.com. Anyone else?
I'm hoping to get one, but no packages today at all. They can't just start releasing clues like this to ONE site and leave everyone hanging for days while we wait for more?! Where's 42 when we need them...

So far it was just ew.com and slash, that we know of. It does clearly state "use it however you wish"..or not I hope your next, at least a fan will be involved.
.....excuse me im going back into my chair to sulk

Wait what says "use it however you wish"? I don't think that has to do with how many of these they sent out, does it?
But nah, you're right, they do need to get some fans involved. To be honest, this viral for Super 8 seems a bit lackluster to me. They have great ideas at the start, but they don't lead anywhere, everything just seems rather bland so far, and I'm crazy excited for this movie. Why aren't there more Rocket Poppeteers events going on?!

The packages do seem to be going to movie news sites, so there's a chance you'll be getting one. Keep checking the mail, and let's hope.

So does this mean that there are clips out there that people do not wish to share, so we do not get the update on them? Oh, the power those few wield... I do hope that some lucky fans do get a few of them... people have shown quite the dedication by maintaining interest in a very slow developing (and frustrating...) ARG!

I just realised we have had another occurence of the code numbers.
In this article on EW http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/03/30/super-8-sneak-peek/
It says -
"Outside the box: An expiration date of "08/1988″ and the numbers "761 7820″. Inside the box."
1988:08 sounds like a similar code to 1991:55 to me.
I've emailed it to the Unlock email address as well as the other code but have had no reply so far.
It may be that that code unlocks the clip that was sent in the package to EW which is 19a.
I'm still convinced more of these codes will appear in real life and we will need to find them. Keep your eye's peeled.
[Edit]for clarity that article is from March, so this is not new info just revisiting old articles[/Edit]

I think you might be right Zort. This reminds me of the glyph hunt during the LOST Experience. That was fun for a bit, but quite anticlimactic in the end. I hope there is more to this.

re: the EW clip received in March I looked in the s8editing room thread and couldn't find if anyone had investigated the numbers 761 7820? It almost looks like a phone number, but googling it doesn't really bring up anything- a maid service in Montana and a flooring company in Texas, etc.

maybe we can extrapolate the codes for other clips from the codes that we know.
what we know so far:
code: 1991:55 clip 46 ( http://www.slashfilm.com/film-hq-receives-secret-super-8-package/ )
code: ???????? clip 19 ( http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/03/30/super-8-sneak-peek/ )
other codes might be out there...

Do we actually know what the code was that EW were asked to email?
To quote EW - 'The box also contained an instruction to send an email with a separate code to an address at super8-movie.com.'
I'm thinking EW haven't actually told us what the code was that they were given to email. They have listed the expiration date and some kind of serial code but they clearly say there is 'a seperate code' to email. Maybe if we can get this info from them we can see if the email codes have any similarities.

I posted a comment asking for the code as I was unable to find the guy's contact. I hope he read comments....

You are right we don't necessarily know the two sets of numbers in the EW post are the actual code.
Maybe we could email / Tweet Jeff Jensen to try and get the code. In fact I'll do that now.

(Sorry for being a party-pooper but...) is this actually in-game? I mean, telling people to email "unlock@super8-movie .com" doesn't sound like it is to me.
