The chat is happening now, so if anyone is interested, we're in the meat of the backstory.

Just missed the chat, it seems... left lots to look into, though.

Nothing from Lloyd, yet, but I did manage to effectively piss off Xibalba.

I told him I needed proof that he was trustworthy, and he didn't like that very much. He wants details right away about Shriver's plans and the well-being of Lloyd's family. Not sure I should give them.

Waiting on a reply, and the manuscript.

Was sent an obit in response to my offer of help to Lloyd. Looks like the Shrivers and the Duvalls have a very tangled past.

Quote:
Lucelia A. Duvall, 26, a bead artist and sculptor, died on May 17 in Duvall, Texas.
Lucelia had won many awards for her intricate necklaces and her statues of the founding brothers of Duvall: Samuel and Joseph.
A native of Duvall, Lucelia received a bachelor's degree from the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas in Austin in 1999.
She studied Folk Art in Mexico City, Mexico for a period of two years before returning to Duvall where she had a contract from 2002 to 2004 with the reputable La Galeria, owned by Osvaldo de Andrade.
Survivors include her father, Roberto Samuel Duvall, her mother, Angela G. Duvall, and her fiancé, Eric D. Shriver, of Duvall whom she was to marry in two months time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.

I received the obit as well, and from it I've assumed that Shriver wants to use the artifacts he's searching for to resurrect his dead fiancee.

We are also to assume that she committed suicide, as per the request at the bottom of the obit. Perhaps she did, or perhaps there has been foul play at work. . . But by whose hand? Shriver? Xibalba?

Very interesting.

From the Dr.:

Quote:

Dear Jeff,

I am sorry for being MIA for a little while but I decided to follow Shriver yesterday. I won't go into details because I feel that the audio will explain it all.

Also, I am sending you one of the first pages of the manuscript of Alonso Bernal Fierro.

Now, let me give you some background information about this particular page from what I could tell it is written in a mixture of Runasimi Quechua and Spanish.

I use this online dictionary when I do translations: http://www.cosmovisionandina.org/runasimi/espanol.php
Therefore I recommend you use this as well.

If you have any questions about this or the audio please feel free to ask me and remember that we are in a time crunch with this. I am trying to decipher the rest of the manuscript and pulling out important pages that I feel are relevant, hence this is why I am entrusting you with this task.

Lloyd

I did a loose translation of the text this morning. It's not perfect, but it gives some pretty interesting info. I emailed it to Lloyd, so we'll see what he has to say about my ability to translate. . .

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Great House
No one visit floor center dig when enter house something more grand/high to see Intiwatana at that time to see entry to Aconcagua first cemetery sacred show face/look offering to mother earth and put on mask ____________ death envelope face/look cold for to have life."

Intiwatana is a place of Inca ruins, and Aconcagua is a mountain range in South America with strong Inca ties.

Here's some infor on the offering to mother earth as well. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.sapaninka.com/es/ofrendas-a-la-pacha-mama&ei=asKlTbDQKYi4sAOQlNH5DA&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCgQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3DOfrenda%2Ba%2Bla%2Bpachamama%26hl%3Den%26prmd%3Divns

Got a message back from Lloyd:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Jez,

You are on the right track, but your translation looks a little bit off. I was translating some other section of the manuscript that was also in Quechua and I believe that some of the words you have chosen are a little wrong. I know that there are many possible combinations for Quechua to Spanish and then Spanish to English. Let me just advise you to beware of Google Translator. Also, I believe this riddle is supposed to explain where the object can be found as well as its use.

On the subject of the mask, that seems plausible. I remember reading somewhere about how the Incas prepared their sacrifices, perhaps search around in that arena. I remember reading about Huacas, sacred Incan places or objects, maybe start there.

As for the Pachamama information: I must say your insight is correct. Many Pre-Colombian indigenous religions do believe in some sort of equivalent exchange. In many Peruvian villages to this day, when they harvest corn or other crops, the first mead they make is poured onto the ground for Pachamama. In the ancient Mayan religion, the noblemen or priests blood-let as an offering to the gods because they believed the gods sacrificed themselves to make the world. Out of the gods' blood and body, we sprung forth.

I looked into Xibalba after you sent me the link to his website. I can see why my wife interviewed him; he seems to be the type of conspiracy theorist she would be into for her book. She was researching about how ancient indigenous beliefs have become urban legends. He is definitely using lore and legend to manipulate his audience's feelings and outlooks.

However, he does seem very against Shriver and I don't trust this blatant transparency. In a town where everyone fears him and the all the law enforcement are owned by Shriver, how is he able to freely go about abusing this despot?

I have emailed in him a few questions to test him. Let's see how he passes. I will email you my results. I also re-read the section of the Popol Vuh that has to do with Xibalba and it leads me to believe he is a trickster. Now, we just need to figure out which side he is on, or if he is playing us both.

Keep working on this as will I. The clock is ticking.

-Lloyd

Welp. . . back to the grind, then.

I tweeted Duvallurban, saying that he messed up the date on the countdown. His reply:

@nevrgonagivuup It's obvious you're under this misconception because of pop culture. Many other people besides the Mayans, like the Quecha, Nomatsiguenga and Hopi, have all prophesized the end of the world in 2012. Each one has their own calendar. 2012 is the era of wañuy; it's not just a specific date. Don't be a dumbass. If you're going to correct the teacher, make sure you know what fuck you are talking about.

I copied and pasted from 4 seperate tweets.

He has a bit of a douche-y additude, in my opinion.[/quote]
