(Sorry for being a party-pooper but...) is this actually in-game? I mean, telling people to email "unlock@super8-movie.com" doesn't sound like it is to me.

It depends...
If we consider the mocumentary IG then the email is IG because s8editingroom is hosted on super8-movie and there is link from the main site to the mocumentary.
If the mocumentary is OOG then all this thread should be marked OOG and we should return waiting for more breadcrumbs...

I think (hope) this is IG ...

My thought on this are that there are a couple of strands of game, which will ultimately end up in the same place.

The info in the more obvious ARG is leading to the same people in the video so the two strands compliment each other.

What doesn't really fit anywhere is Rocket Poppeteers as that seems almost completely separate.

Rocket Poppeteers connection

Zort, there may be a connection with 301 8647 found on box in the "Online Shop" as it is similar to reported s8editing numbers 761 7820 reported by EW.

Rocket Poppeteers is sort of on a limb by itself, but we found it from STIES, so we know it must be official too. That is one thing I really wish they'd start tying in though. The site seems set up for so much, but it hasn't delivered a thing. I hope it's not just an ad for the popsicles that will show up in the movie. I hope something actually comes of it.

That's a good catch. Guess we'll have to see if there are any more. Unless someone figures out what the heck they mean or should be used for.

Sounds a lot like what happened with Slusho! and Cloverfield. All we get to see is Jason wearing a shirt. But some people said that the 7-11 in whatever town they were filming in had Rocket Poppeteers stuff in the back

1654211
unlock email

Jane, done. Good thought. Anyone keeping track of all 7 digit numbers? I find it odd that in a movie titled "Super 8" that 7 would have some significants.

What about the map references?

I know they may be in a different format, but we can't rule them out...

Totally thought the same thing...just emailed both number sequences from map and map2 on STIES to the unlock address. 79.89.12.68 and 75.12.5.04.2

Just a thought on the format of the code that was sent to unlock to film clip... the format 1991:55 made me think of the format some of the information is entered in a bibliography... for instance, on the Christfilos paper on line, the bibliography holds:
Courant, Ernest D., M. Stanley Livingston and Hartland S. Snyder. "The Strong-Focusing Synchrotron—A New High Energy Accelerator." Physical Review 88 (1952): 1190.

with the date and page in that format...

just a thought. probably not worth much...

Just for shits and giggles, I emailed 1962:19, from the September 19 card we've seen.
