 		The Collector (Stephen?) just posted the non-YouTube videos to YouTube here:

This kind of makes me think we're in endgame, now that everything is being collected together like this.

And actually, if the intent of the Collector character is to have an in-game mechanism for gathering together everything that didn't come out in the YouTube videos, making sure the stuff that went out on transient mediums like Facebook is archived, and generally collate and tinker with the game materials to put them into a state where they tell a coherent narrative to anyone who comes along and looks over them after the game wraps up, I approve wholeheartedly - I think it's a really good idea for preserving the game materials for posterity. Perhaps the Collector will put up a webpage or dump materials onto the wiki so that eventually there'll be a comprehensive timeline you can read through to get all the videos and chats and other bits of information in more or less the order they came out.

 		so, I mentioned this over on our Slenderthread at Penny Arcade, and figured you guys would be interested in this too, unless I'm a bit late to the party, as it were:

When watching Doc Cairo's first compilation for Angel's game, I noticed that Stephen's name comes up in the letter that Austin had in "What is This?": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVgfVwaTQPI

Guess now they weren't getting him "unnecessarily involved," he was marked from the start as part of this whole twisted game in the first place.

Here's my breif speculation regarding the events thus-far, copied from what I said over on PA:

Okay, let's start with the names:
The Keeper: Josh, the first one that we saw involved with this weird crap happening in their tale. He is so named because he is the host for the entity known as...

The Dweller: The supernatural entity (or rather, the First) to hitch a ride with Josh. He seems to be a protector, trying to keep the gang from harm by leaving clues. He is apparently bound, for some reason, by rules set in place by a former host whom he cared for deeply, who is believed to have passed on (likely the girl whose death haunted Josh's dreams).

The Dreamer: Alana, so named because of the peculiar dreams she was having. What seems to be the difference between her dreams and Josh's nightmares is that Alana's were more of the prophetic variety. At one point, she discussed how she had a dream about both Josh and Austin being dead in water. She was, by my interpretation of Dweller's notes, never supposed to have been brought into this.

The Collector: Stephen; his role was to "collect the pieces" after everything was done. I'm not sure what it means, and neither does Stephen. It was his role told to him after Dweller had taken possession of Josh after his mind snapped after the events at Nathan's home.

The Creature: What we commonly refer to as Slenderman. It's has distinct differences however from many other incarnations in other stories (for example, Stephen has said that the thing he's seen "carries himself much differently" from the incarnation seen in Tribe Twelve when shown a video. Also, no tentacles seen thus far. It also has a penchant for wearing hats. And getting physically violent with those it targets

The Other: Austin. He has displayed bizarre, erratic behavior in the past, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that it is not likely the cause of a supernatural entity like the situation between Dweller and Josh. I suspect, given what we've seen (and it becomes more evident when presented all at once rather than the slow burn of watching the series as it transpires) that Austin himself is responsible for the behavior, possibly due to contact with the Creature and being warped mentally by it. Responsible for Alana's (likely) death. Sworn enemy of...

Emet Rotter: No clue. Sarcastic, trollish and bitter, the sort of Jackass Hero of our story at this point. May be a supernatural entity that's taken up residence in Josh's body after both he and The Dweller are said to have died. Wants to kill The Other, for Justice. Tends to think about it a lot.
My other interpretation of his identity: The Dweller and Josh have fused into one being at this point due to the trauma caused by Alana's death, which would explain his almost fanatical focus on taking revenge on The Other.


The Game: I am not certain what the point of the game is yet. However, here is my speculation:

- Austin has encounter with the Creature before the events of the series take place. This is the seed that begins his gradual decline into the bloodthirsty self we've seen lately, who enjoys playing mind games and toying with potential prey. Serves, in some fashion, The Creature
- The Dweller is a beings who exists to oppose the Creature. It killed a girl he had befriended in the past. He has bonded with Josh to stop it and protect him.
- The Dweller also sought to work with Josh to free Austin from the thrall of the Creature [see the "Christmas Present" left for Josh in Surprise Present]. It is unlikely that Josh was ever aware of this.
- Josh fails to keep Alana out of these events. In fact, he manages to drag Nathan into it by getting him to take the trio to the Church. Nathan disappears, likely abducted by the creature. Nathan is last seen alive in a video taken near his own home. It is possible that Austin, under the thrall of the creature, arrived sometime before he, Josh and Stephen went there together and killed Nathan himself.
- Despite the video title stating otherwise, Stephen appears to have been marked from the start as having a role in events. Indeed, even The Dweller gave him a role title: The Collector. However, it seems that things spiralled out of control before it was his time to fulfill this function.
- Because of Austin/The Other attacking and killing Alana, Josh's fragile mind shatters the rest of the way. He dies in some fashion, taking The Dweller with him. His body is now host to the entity "Emet Rotter," which is either a new supernatural entity or a personality created to protect Josh from the severe mental trauma of Alana's death.
- Stephen is now left alone, with no one else to rely on. Josh, for all intents and purpose at this time, is gone, as is Dweller. Nathan and Alana are dead. Austin is batting for team Kill 'Em All and Emet is rather the loner type. It is hard to say what is going to come next.

That, I'm fairly certain about with what I remember from what we've seen so far. There's one bit of possible "Out there" type stuff that I'm also suspecting: Alana is, in some way, connected to the girl that The Dweller knew. Whether that was merely being reminded of her, or even something like reincarnation, I have no idea. This is based on Dweller's statement of "I WILL MAKE HIM LISTEN. I WILL NOT LOSE HER AGAIN."


Has anyone tried Sending Stephen that "What is This?"? I'm not sure if he's seen it yet? I'm thinking of sending him a PM about it.

weird gas-mask guy and the 'I-dont-fucking-know' from BFNYVIRGYRSERIRA are both Emet (ie, Josh's body) as far as anyone has been able to tell (gas-mask guy is definitely Emet.)

That's the weird thing though, because unless I'm counting wrong, the twitter puts the tweets around 7AM, since it says they were 16 hours ago at what is, for me, ~11PM EDT

Also that's kind of creepy regarding Emet. Does that imply that he's able to pop about through the proverbial ether like The Creature now?

 		The black hand at the end who owns Stephen, I'm thinking that was Our Tall Friend. He showed up when Emet and Austin met up, and seemingly fought Emet off to defend Austin, so I'm thinking that's the same thing that happened here.

Except, you know, with less gas masks.
