I don't follow Doctor Who, but is this the episode that Neil Gaiman wrote?

The episode was written by Steve Moffat, who enjoys ruining canon and messing with things people like.

You sure you're not thinking of Russell T Davies? Because he's the one who decided Gallifrey had been destroyed, had Ten regenerate into himself and then get a half-human clone thing for Rose, gave the Doctor a "daughter", was more or less responsible for Rose, and caused Rose, among other things. Moffat really only made a bunch of pants-wettingly terrifying monsters and timey-wimey balls. Then again, I haven't seen much of anything after Series 4, so that could impact my judgment...

I rather dislike Rose, have you noticed?

They both have their moments, honestly. Moffet is great at writing individual eps, but I hated the "cracks in time" season arc and it's "clap your hands if you believe" ass-pull ending was just ridiculous. They need to give the season-long "end of the universe" thing arc thing a rest for awhile so when they do use it it's a big deal again.

I mean Moffat since he retconned everything before Smith joined to have never happened. Twice. In the same series.

Err no he rather hasn't. HE didn't retcon anything, he just gave an explanation for things like people not noticing RTD's giant mech in Victorian london.

the end of the series also didn't retcon anything, in fact if anythign it brought things back.

I took Amy not remembering anything about Earth's "recent" history and the fact that everything in the universe was basically reset at the end of the series and that no older characters appear as him basically saying to ignore it all.

Time travellers such as River and the Daleks excluded.

It just felt that he wanted to start his own story from a clean slate by wiping it clean and I've seen no evidence to say that he hasn't reset it all. The scene at the Pandorica doesn't feel like it counts because of multiple time travelling aliens being there and even ones that don't make sense, such as Earth's reptile people despite them not being enemies of the Doctor. Everyone else there felt cameo.

Even if I'm wrong you can't deny he has an attitude that says "No one returns from previous series except Time Travellers."

The First Doctor had a daughter, and a granddaughter.

Zefram
A ""clap your hands if you believe" ass-pull ending" was also used in the Davies' episode Last of the Time Lords with no forewarning at all. Where as the one in The Big Bang was at least lead up to with Rory the Roman.

HunterEris
Moffat has hardly "retconned everything before Smith", in Vincent and the Doctor there are pictures shown of Doctors First and Second.

Also this is hardy the place to rant about current state of affairs in Doctor Who.
I believe that it would be better suited here? http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/index.php?f=18
