In my browser each block of the pillars has the exact same color on the top and the bottom.
I also didn't use L & R in the numbering because I expect we'll be shifting them around.

Spec on the goal of this riddle:
The quote gives us the hint that we're looking for names. Indeed, the first bible passage tells us that a man put his own name on a column. I'm guessing that each of the items will have a first-last name answer. We'll then need to arrange these names somehow in a colum to find the answer.
The colors may have something to do with it. In fact, there might be multiple columns, if the answer we're looking for has more than one word (eg, another name).
note on the organization system I used:
While there's a very good possibility that we'll need to reorder the pictures, there's also a chance that we'll need to know their original positions. I was actually more split against putting the trailing letter index, but that seemed to be the ad-hoc system already so I didn't want to confuse people more. I've also double-credited certain pictures, not out of disrespect, but to give both the identifier and the confirmer equal props.

good catch, Kender -- I couldn't tell that the colors were matched on both top and bottom until I loaded it up in photoshop and zoomed in. The danger of having a high-rez monitor

It's hard to argue that it's not Charleston Chew, but I don't think Varin's pic is the same. There's some writing on the bottom of the center bar, and a glare that obscures the left side that doesn't look faked.
Just to be sure, I put the pic in photoshop and played with the colors ... I can't get them to match. Sorry Varin -- I know there's nothing better on GIS, so I'll give you the C anyway

Spec If you look at OJ's picture you can see that he is "framed" by different color lines than everyone else. His green line is a darker green and his red line is actually magenta. Enaxor blew up those lines and says that the green is a combination of a light green line and a blue line. The magenta line is a combination of red and dark blue lines.

ok, this was bugging me... so i had to verify it in pait. the "green" lines, in the first colum, are yellow. for those who disagree, i took the two pillars, cut then in half, and put the smaller green {in the second colum} and matched it to a yellow line in the first. you can see, they are indeed different colors. I thought maybe it might be important to know that they are different colors.

I know there's a bug in the newer versions of IE that will save a .GIF image as a .JPG, which will introduce some corruption due to compression. I wonder if that's what Pixie's experiencing--that's what it looks like in the shots you posted.
Make sure you are working with the true originals:
http://www.theunraveling.com/pillar/pillar1.gif
http://www.theunraveling.com/pillar/pillar2.gif
They're palletized 256-color GIF files. According to photoshop, the lines you're focusing on are all one pixel thick and definitely green. To be sure you're getting the right colors, do the following:
Change your video mode to High Color (24 or 32 bit)
Load the pillar.html file in IE.
Press the PrintScreen key
Load your image program (photoshop, paint, whatever)
Paste the screenshot into a new blank canvas.
Now zoom in on the lines. You'll see they're either Green, Red, or in OJ's case, blue.
Don't mean to burst your bubble, Pixiestix, or minimize your effort. Personally, I blame IE.

wel.. i didn't save the images, i did the print screen method, first off. secondly, i only saved it to a jpg afterwards because it's a smaller file size... thirdly, they are still different colors on my computer.
i still don't hear the sheep.
