Help Hannah
See how fast you can solve this...

You have received several mp3 files from Hannah Neillien who is searching for her missing father (an ethnomusicologist). She has found some password protected pdf files on his computer that she thinks may be pages from his research journal.

The mp3 files were contained in a computer file labeled "password" along with a password protected pdf file (attached)nand another document consisting of the following information:

-names to numbers
-Hannah

The mp3s all consist of 2 different notes played one at a time and you have determined the musical intervals they represent. Here is list of the mp3 file names and their corresponding intervals:

RN1.mp3 = m2 ascending
RN3.mp3 = M2 ascending
RN4.mp3 = m6 ascending
RN5.mp3 = M3 ascending
RN6.mp3 = M2 descending
RN7.mp3 = M3 descending
RN9.mp3 = m6 descending
RN10.mp3 = m2 descending

See if you can open the file! Very Happy

Sorry to dredge this up from a year ago, but I just can't seem to crack this one! Anyone else got any ideas? See below for where I am, roughly.

The musical intervals denote how many semitones are covered by the chord, for example, a minor sixth is eight semitones. Do the ascending/descending notes suggest adding/subtracting numbers? If so, are they added to the number on the MP3 filename, or something else? Adding them to the filename numbers and attempting to convert them to letters provides nonsense, as does adding the numbers to the numerical values of the letters in Hannah's name.

Finally, I'm wondering if the password is simply her father's first name. I'm not sure it's a coincidence that Hannah's forename and surname are both palindromes, either.
