I agree that I don't think it's completely dead, as I did get that e-mail back from Lane. But normally, there's a clue or something posted to help us proceed, and I'm pretty stuck at this point.

EDIT: Actually, I'm 100% sure this isn't completely dead; Lane just started following me on twitter 11 hours ago. Must still be alive.

Well, let's see if we can jump that stalled universe then!

Sent an E-mail to Lane (finally!, after having to get my computer back up to full working order after the update to 11.04 crashed Ubuntu (grrr))

Asked if there was another clue coming, if we were missing anything, and then asked a question about the "timelines" thing as to satisfy my own personal curiosity.

Transcript:
Quote:
It's been quite a while since your last post, why is that?

Several of us have been thinking that another clue was coming for Module 7, but, so far, none has. So, are we incorrect in thinking this? Was there some event over there that rendered you unable to send us transmissions?

Here is what we have at this point:

  • CTTPOMREIAREEANCTARSEI decodes to: CREATE ART IN SPACE OR TIME

  • thIngS I MiSs spells ISMS with the capitalized letters, and the post is tagged "ions"

  • searching for ISMS and luminescence of the sun gave results about ions, after searching for ions ISMS, I got information about the "interstellar medium," abbreviated ISM. The phrase "interstellar medium," while it does not literally mean this, can be broken into medium, something you make art on, and interstellar, throughout space, thus relating back to the first point. This was our best lead, but we were waiting for a clue as to how to use it. "interstellarmedium" did not work as a password.

Are we missing anything?

Also, you said that there had been some events concerning the rest of the crew, what happened to those posts? I'm sure we'd all love to hear about them.

Lastly, and this is more of a personal curiosity, you hinted to someone else that we are in different "timelines." What, specifically, do you mean by this? Are you just in our future, communicating back through time? Or are we communicating from two different level III quantum universes? Or perhaps universes of the first two levels? (I am, of course, referring to Tegmark's multiverse theory, which has always fascinated me. If there is no Tegmark in your world, or if you are not familiar with the theory, a good article is here: http://space.mit.edu/home/tegmark/PDF/multiverse_sciam.pdf )
Or, is it something altogether stranger and more unheard of? Once again, just my curiosity talking here.

Good move. I hope this provokes some reaction.

Hey guys just jumped on this tonight, following it right up to the stalling point we seem to be at. As far as I can see no one has followed up on the picture post http://writingonthemoon.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/85/ the jpg is flagged as yesterdayistomorrow
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a little goggle search took me to this domain name http://www.yesterdayistomorrow.com/ not had much time to fully look into it yet but may be a thread

Hope im on the right lines with this

Note to self, check leads before going to bed. Had a look at this site over breakfast, it's got nothing to do with it. Back to the drawing board.

There's a new post up, so this game certainly isn't dead, but it doesn't seem to contain anything to help us with the module:

Quote:
In a post I wrote back in February I wrote about our crew, calling the post "Cast of Characters." I'm planning on writing a few posts that highlight a few characteristics of our crew you may find interesting.

The first of these posts is about Jan. This is not her real name, but I'm not going to go into that now. Jan is my best friend, and one of the smartest people I know. Something strange has been happening to Jan, and none of us noticed it until she point it out. At first, only she was smart enough to notice it, but now it's becoming obvious to everyone.

Jan is becoming stronger and more energetic, and she looks more beautiful with each passing day. She says she is doing nothing different in her routine, and got quite heated when Micah subtly accused her of dosing. Jan is one of the most moral and ethical people I know, so I believe her. She is currently running tests on herself, so I'll keep you posted about the results.

Ironically, while Jan is getting stronger and better, the crew quarters are falling apart. Strangely, nothing appears to be broken or worn out, it's just that things have stopped working. We are all spending a great deal of time just keeping ourselves alive, as some of our life support systems are beginning to go bad as well.

Reply!

Ok, here is Lane's reply:

I apologize for the long silence. Things have been getting more and more unsettling here. I promise you a new blog post soon.

As for Module Seven, it's quite confounding, is it not? What we discovered as we were working through that module is that the sentence "Create art in space or time" is a commandment, not a statement. Does that make sense? When you have figured it out, email me and I will give you the password to Module Eight.

Thank you for the article. I love getting my hands on new reading material and found it fascinating. The explanation for how our universes differ is slightly more complicated than this, but let's just say they are similar, but "alternate" universes. Also, we are still learning about ours.

Your Friend in Time,

Lane

One thing seems strange to me: "email me when you've figured it out and I'll give you the password." Does this imply that we don't have enough info to figure it out and that we were supposed to email him at this point? Or is the PM just giving us a hand?

As for the "commandment" thing, nothing comes to mind immediately, but I'll do a real quick search and edit if I find anything useful.

EDIT: Nope, found nothing really. Although, in my searching, I did find reference to "kinetic art" or art that moves. This art exists in space, but also takes time. However, that means it's in space and time, the "commandment" said "or."

Perhaps we need to create something and then send that to him?

since you posted while I was editing, I just thought I'd draw your attention to the edit above. Didn't find much though.

I dont suppose we could be looking for an anagram of "space or time" that relates to some form of comandment on painitng or sculpture, maybe something by Da Vinci, maybe he is the one who holds the key from the Epic Six? Just floating the idea, fairly new to all this.

Are we overthinking it?

Just sent an email to Lane. I decided to go off of a theme in another game I played not too long ago that also seems to keep popping up in this one: You're over-thinking it.

Lane said that "create art in space or time" was a commandment. Twiler even said that we might try sending something to him. However, I (and everybody else, I would assume, since I'm the first to try this) immediately started thinking "what do we send him?" Really, however, where is it asking for anything specific? It's not. It's just asking for art that lies in time or space (which pretty much just means "exists") So, I sent him art. Nothing specific, just something I'd made a while back and had sitting on my computer.

Here's my message:
Quote:
Hello again, I have decided to take the "commandment" literally and simply interpret it as a request to make a piece of art ("create art") that exists ("in space or time" -- everything exists in either space or time, so this really could just mean "it exists"). This may be a simplistic way of thinking about it, but, really, if this is asking us to do something, where is it asking for something specific? It's just asking for art. Plain and simple. So, attached you will find proof I have done as it has asked: you will find a piece of art I made not too long ago.

Hopefully this is what you are looking for. If it's not, then, at least we've eliminated a possibility, which is at least a step in the right direction.

I've also attached my art to this post in case anyone's curious.

A wild stab in the dark -- "space or time" includes "space or time." I tried playing with capitalization or inserting the word "art" between them, but got nothing. Maybe anagrams are the right route?

*peeks in after lurking*

After looking up "interstellar medium" on Wikipedia, I found out that ions only made up part of the ISM. The page had a chart on the various parts of the ISM as well. The one that stuck out to me was coronal gas because the description of ionized hydrogen and the relation of coronal gas to references to the sun due to the corona. (use of bold just to highlight relations to clues)

Not exactly sure what "Create art" references in relation to coronas unless we need to send in a photograph of a corona.

What do you think?

tried "corona" as a password, it didn't work. Still haven't gotten an email back from Lane.

no, I don't think it's dead, it's just waiting for us to figure this one out.
As for the email, Lane has usually taken a few days to respond to any emails he's been sent. I think the PM only checks the address every now and then as this isn't the world's biggest ARG, after all. It's probably just yet another hobby project ARG that's simply been well done.
