Clock

If i find a falling letter, I go again to that letter. When I get a chime, Where do I go next?

The chime signifies completion of activity (for that number). Falling letters indicate the need to go get something with one of the hands.

That's not enough. If you insist on not travelling you won't solve it without knowing (or at least correctly guessing) beforehand how it works

btw what would you google for? "how to travel?" Twisted Evil

Actually you can google for "how to travel virtually" -- I had to do it this way as I could not physically travel or use a different computer/location to login.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you need to virtually travel for this seal try a free proxy server. Worked for me.

I was trying to be a bit more subtle. Wink

I think I have the first part of "One of the Ancient-est",
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
following the method of The Sator Square as given
, but I still am not seeing the next step (even with Rogi's nudge).

Your next clue is in the rest of the puzzle title that you left off...

Thanks, that's what I have been going on. I guess I just haven't found the correct word. I never was very good with cross word puzzles.

Got it! Thank goodness! Whew! Or should I say, "!Wow!"

Been at the clock for a half hour... ugh... Once I get a chime, how do I know which hand to move and to where? Sigh... I always seem to start a new cycle of despair...

That's what happened with me! I had the hints, and nudges and all of that but in the end - I never did figure out what exactly did it!

This is one reason why I love this puzzle site, it seems to do a great job of mixing left brain/right brain -- lateral/literal and it's all good!

Re: recursion

Regarding the Recursive puzzle, I feel rather dense Embarassed , as I've indexed just about everything I can in the first box with the cartesian grid (recursive adj against see recursive, going straight across using each letter for each axis, etc..) and I'm coming up with nothing. What am I missing?

Cartesian grid (x, y pairs); the definition box is your starting point; don't overcomplicate how you use it - take the letters as they come...

this does not work gaaaah >.<

I take it back. it works. only you need to divide the thing into small things, just like all those hints said.

Exactly. In retrospect, the one hint that said something to the effect of "simply go straight" was probably the most helpful, but I was misunderstanding WHERE that applied!

leader bored(not a typo)

If you ignore the scoring system, don't mind it being interesting only once a week for up to an hour and attend to each puzzle with a sufficient degree of self-reliance - IF and ONLY IF all of the above, this site is passable. The motif is fairly attractive and well-done, but the theorems are inconsistently rewarding and M's persona is far less dynamic than a cross between Keanu Reeves and Stephen Hawking's voice box, lacking as it does Reeves' vacuous good looks or the box's charisma.

This is yesterday, G

I had a lot of trouble with Recursion, for quite awhile. In my case, it turns out that the scripting for that particular puzzle didn;t take into accoutn different screen resolution sizes; the Descartes hints posted here wouldn't work, as the highlighting bars weren't lining up as they were intended to (try setting your screen resolution to different settings to see what I mean), so I spent several extra days on this one before seeing what was intended.

Wow... I've read through this entire thread. So far I've been able to complete every Theorem and and Seals requiring puzzles possible. I just can't get this latest one (Ancient-est Crossword) at all! I've got the not correct answer and (sadly) used the hints. I just can't figure it out.

Any hints? Sad

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I found a word that means "to make godlike"... then.. since the anagram pair for the crossword is "made godlike".. I changed the word I found into the past tense.. and that makes it a palindrome, too.
