VRELIC 43 is a file in the Portal 2 interactive trailer. I think we can assume that VRELIC 18-42 started out as paper files.

Sarah states:
"Several of you have sent in emails asking for more info about Dr. Leyda Cupe. Frankly, I'm not even sure she exists outside of a few books and journals but I was hoping her name might jog someone's memory.

I found an old file where she was mentioned, among other things..."

She doesn't say "electronic" or "scanned" file, so I am thinking she found some of the old paper files.

I used to work at an oil company. I was a consultant, an engineer. Several months ago, I found scanned copies of files in a locked directory. Lots of weird information, referencing projects nothing like what our company was developing. There are things in those files that I've never heard of. Materials that shouldnt exist. And inone of those files I found your name.

So she is looking into these scanned files, which I believe are the VRELIC files.

^^ She found them in a "Locked Directory". Remember she had the knowledge to hack HLM, so if we can get her to give us the machine and path-names of the directory, we could get it. PDP 11 anyone?

I read through some of the STIES chats, and one in particuar stood out in my head when I ran through the clips. It was the Jan. 27th 2011 chat.

In this chat, Josh's contact said that his dad "was plucked to work on a project of great importance." They had "found an important alternative energy source. It involved foreign matter. But it got out of control."

This leads me to think that the cubes were being examined as that alternative energy source. As for the "subject" in the clips, that may be the charred or shriveled figure that Josh's dad is next to. The term "subject" that was used leads me to believe that they were test subjects. I'm guessing that the subjects were exposed to some kind of energy emitted from the cubes. This may have severely disfigured the subjects, and one of them must have attacked one of the scientists (Josh's dad looks okay in that clip, but it may have been filmed before the attack, or it may not have been Josh's dad that got attacked.)

I think Josh's dad may be the creature. Exposed to the energy that the cubes emit, he may have transformed into something that powerful.

Or maybe Josh's dad DIED in one of these tests, as they keep showing his picture when they refer to "the subject", and the VITAS brought him back to life!
