The longest year, just hopin' that Super 8 isn't Super Ain't

Them ole fibromyalgia blues has kept me so messed up that it's been a while since I've checked--oh, and Jane, haven't forgot your sonnet, just have missed so much sleep, I haven't felt like getting on it--but I will.

At 1st after missing the looking at the sites for a couple of days, I was bummed, but you know, I think I've gone through withdrawal without too much suffering, and now that I'm back on, you know, it's like I've missed nothing.

I stated this during the first year of the non-ARG, (and I'm paraphrasing) that it all just seems to have been cut up in pieces, tossed up in the air, glued together, and the PMs are the ones that are no doubt having all of the fun.

[I recall reading about the Beatles' song "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" off the "Sgt. Pepper" album. They cut snippets of circus and calliope music that had been recorded on tape, tossed them up in the air and then spliced them together.]

Anyway, I digress--back in the 1st year of the Super Ain't ARG, I'd try telling my friends about what was going on--shoot, you needed a Phd. just to do that and friends would look at you, then look at each other, and sort of nod. It was about that time that I just kept it to myself--I mean, it was like, "Yeah there's this computer simulation from the 60s or 70s and there's these two who are trying to communicate to each other about something mysterious."

"Mysterious in what way?"

"Well there's this one guy who has this web site where he obsesses about this prehistoric fish that was thought to be extinct, but back in 1931, or '32 they caught a live one."

"Yeah, so what?"

"Well the one guy who runs the site wants to obtain one and keep it in an aquarium."

"Yeah? Can that even be done--I mean have scientists tried doing that?"

"Yeah, but it doesn't seem to work--but wait I forgot to tell you something important."

"Yeah, like what? The guy's making jerky outta the fish?"

"No, his mother died!"

"The fish?"

"No, the guy trying to get one. It seems like she left him some stuff he tried to sell on Craigslist."

"Man, you're right, you left out an important bit of the puzzle. So what'd she leave him, his first snorkel and flippers?"

"No man, a couple of frames of an 8mm Super 8 film with red lettering on it."

"So what'd the lettering spell out?"

"Did I tell you this is going to be a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrahams, and they released a trailer during Iron Man.."

"Which Iron Man, 1 or 2?"

"Umm 2, I think--anyway here's the cool part. At the end of the preview for Super 8 there's this red lettering like on an old projector, and here's the awesome part--guess what it spells?"

"'Amazing Stories' was better than 'Alias?'"

"No, seriously, it spelled out SCARIEST THING I EVER SAW."

"Wow, that sounds awesome [snicker, snicker]."

"No, concentrate! Someone typed that all together and then put a ".com" behind it, and it opens up this freaking web site that is in the fashion of an old computer."

"Wow, that's incredible [sarcastic snicker]."

"Well, that's not all..."

"Yeah we had a feeling you were going to say something like that."

"This guy uploads a photo of part of the Super 8 film with the red lettering on it, and in the photo there's a reversed image of a town's zip code and other stuff in the photo."

"So what's it all about?"

"We haven't found that out yet."

MONTHS LATER

"So it looks like Josh isn't maintaining his site, Mysterio is dead it seems, and Sarah's started another sit talking about Van Allen belts..."

"You mean like in the movie "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea?" Does the sky catch fire?"

"Nah, I don't think so, but Rocket Poppeteers is up and you can buy stuff and play this game called "Pilot Eyes."

"So what does that have to do with anything?"

"No one's sure yet!"

"Wait, about a year or so ago, didn't you tell me that the fish kid's mom died?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Did she leave him any secret maps like in "National Treasure?"

"Uhh, let's see, the film piece, a cannister that has three dots on it, and some things he was trying to sell on Craigslist."

"Yeah, like what, a decoder ring?"

"Nahh, I think it was a snow sled, a clock, a ceramic swan, and a ceramic cactus cookie jar."

"So..."

"Wait his mom left him one of her dresses also!"

"Is this Josh a cross dresser?"

"We haven't found that out yet, but..."

"So what does all of that mean?"

"Yeah, well, no one knows yet!"

"So how many decades do you think this will continue to go on?"

"Well, the movie's supposed to come out one of these years, at least I think."

"So what do you think this ARG will have to do with the movie?"

"Well, it's supposed to be about these kids who're making a Zombie movie, and then this train crashes, and something escapes and the towns' dogs all run away." Cool

"Oh, well why didn't you say that in the first place; now it's all perfectly clear. Hey, I gotta split; Apple's releasing their Spy Pad ver. 5.8."

and to think the answer was right there in front of us all of the time...

we just weren't getting it because because we forgot that our answer had to be in the form of a question. Cool

The PMs probably haven't had such a good time since, well, since good times were created. (or do they evolve?) Rolling Eyes

PM's here SUCK

Well, if you've read my other posts then you know my mind set. I must agree with you Xeno. I go away for a while, there are new clues but they don't really add to any more than a hill of Castor beans. I feel like this ARG was spiked with ricin. It was doomed to die from it's inception. It just seems that it was poorly put together and the thought process behind the idea was good but fell dreadfully by the wayside. We have been chasing clues and the clues have been nothing more than shameful advertisements for either purchasing t-shirts, patches and stickers or promoting the movie. And I pray that the movie is not as lame as this ARG. For example the Pirates of the Caribbean ARGS of the past had a point and they were fun. I may not have come close to winning the volvo with that ARG but at least I enjoyed the games and finding the long and lats for the next puzzle.

Pray that this movie is not as big of a fizzle as this game. Happy Anniversary!

Granted I came in late, so I"m not quite up to a year. The one thing I know is that I suck at this. You guys are super stars! The stuff you've found..... It still amazes me how fast you guys put stuff together. and Jane..... your pictures are the best! I just hope we finish strong.

Lol, Jane, I think, your masterpieces deserve to be published as Super8-Addendum. Definitely. We must party.

And belated: happy Anniversary!
