Super 8 Monster Details have arrived...
and I knew I wouldn't be let down

http://damngoodcup.com/a-report-on-the-30-minute-preview-of-super-8

the link details 3 different scenes, A diner scene between Joe and his father, The train wreck scene, and a gas station scene. The summary of the Gas Station scene has details about the monster, So READ THAT ONE AT YOUR OWN RISK...

I went ahead and read it, and I am NOT disappointed Very Happy

edit: also, there MAY be minor spoilers about the cubes and the driver of the truck in the summary of the train crash scene...

I didn't think it was THAT obvious...

I mean sure, I guess it's kind of cliche', but there were endless possibilities

also, that blog is pretty legit, lol

I'm pretty sure the Monster-Octopus-Scorpion-Bull-Biomech is something like "Gort" in "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

I don't think the whole town would look up in the sky in awe if there would be just this violent jellyfish. Instead they would run like hell.

It's not the whole picture. Maybe there is a more friendly entity.

Have to admit, when I first heard about Super 8 coming out, I was hoping for a full fledged Cloverfield-type monster pic.

Now, after everything, I'm hoping this is a film about childhood that just happens to have a monster in it. Much like Bubba HoTep, which was about growing old but just happened to have a soul-sucking mummy in it.

I hope the monster stuff gets dialed down, at this point.

Of course there is more to it and the "monster" doesn't really matter as much as the "lesson" to me anyways.

Immmmmm just saying it seems ...funny Rolling Eyes ... that some of the first comments on set were about people seeing cephalopod details in the sky etc.

Moby Dick I get it but....ya'no..Im stoked either way..nvm Laughing

I just need some RP games to keep the monkey from smashing my windshield... I mean... cookies.... Foily!

Well....

I'm sorry but stuff isn't adding up in my mind. I'm going to put it all in spoiler tags except this first part due to those not wanting to know what was posted about the creature..

First (this doesn't need a spoiler tag), this website is saying they saw it as well, however they state "no, we never got to see the monster". It was posted May 10th the same day that DMC posted their article about it...

http://geekactually.com/2011/05/10/preview-a-special-sneak-peak-at-super-8/

Ok now for the spoiler stuff.
Please understand this is just my opinion and questions I have regarding the creature they claimed to see...big red box below, lol....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

1. If they are speaking of the old rotating signs that gas stations used, there's no way it hid a creature that filled up an entire gas station. Did it grow after eating a box of Cheez-it or something?

2. We see in the trailer, damage to other objects, and people wondering what it was that caused it (dept sheriff mostly). If this thing is really that big, I find it hard to believe it's able to sneak around when it's so pissed off it's kicking trash dumpsters around and banging through the woods. "9 people missing now".....and yet no one has seen this giant thing?

3. The one part I do agree with however is the possibilities of multiple creatures. As said before, if you watch the videos people have shot of action scenes being filmed, you can see the military shooting in different directions. One group down the street, the other group shooting upwards.

4. This whole "Cthulhu" thing some are mentioning, is happening very much like Cloverfield did. There was also a movie in 2007 regarding the Cthulhu cult. Right now Cthulhu, in my opinion, is about as likely as a huge lion Razz

I guess my biggest concern is the 2 different articles explaining what they saw, and didn't JJ say something about us knowing as little about this creature as possible until the movie release?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
@ Tim

1. I imagine they shot at an angle where the rotating sign actually hid most (if not all) of the gas station.

2. you have a good point

3. I agree with this as well. And if that's the case, maybe the monster at the gas station made his first appearance that night...

4. Isn't it ALWAYS Cthulhu? Laughing

Hi Tim. It looks like your concerns were addressed by a poster on GDC/GDM's site. If you head back over to the same link, you can see it.

Also, Matt's Movie Reviews (another site) does go into some of the same GDC/GDM detail
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
on the diner scene, the petrol station scene, and even mentions the 'money shot' of the monster's attack
from the same preview showing:

http://www.mattsmoviereviews.net/spotlight-a-closer-look-sneak-peek-super-8.html

Also, notice, GDC mentions a 30 min preview. Geekactually mentions 20 minutes. Matt's Movie Reviews calls it @ 15 mins.

Again, none of the three match each other on the preview's length, either. Do I think they're all lying?

No. I think what we have here are three different people providing their prospective on the same event. I have to agree with the poster on GDC.

Rather than contradicting/fighting each other's accounts, the three sites actually retell their own first-hand experiences and provide further detail into exactly what was seen - thus, providing readers with a fuller picture/understanding. Smile

Thanks Eating Cheese (sounded weird to type that)

At the time I couldn't find anything else on the showing other than the Geek article, so that was the basis of my questioning their article on it. Just seemed like too big of a deal to leave out, unless as others elsewhere have said, it was intentionally left out.

As far as the time goes, it's difficult to gauge time inside a movie theater, even more so when it's something highly interesting (a good movie feels way too short), so I'm guessing that's why the discrepancies Smile

Still have many questions, the most specific being, is there only one of these things, or multiple. Right now I'm guessing multiple.

Sure thing, Tim, and looool on typing my screen name, haha.

At the time, I was really in the mood for some sharp cheddar, so I wished I was...eating cheese, hence the name -_-

And, it's all good. I totally get where you're coming from with the questions.

It's always good to question, especially with something that we've invested so much time into.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Hot diggity dang, don't know if you've seen the two latest TV spots (you can see the monster's arms (tentacles? ropes of silly string?) for a split second in the first one, and check out the multiple cubes flying out the back of the truck.

That may speak to your idea of there being multiples of the creature (after all, how many of these cubes could one monster need?!?):

- http://www.fandango.com/movie-trailer/super8-trailer/136253

And, yep, movies that are a blast always feel too short. I'm seriously going to stretch this experience out as long as possible in the theater!
