A poll of sorts about violating TINAG
Give me your opinion about incorporating RPG gameplay into an ARG

I'm in the process of developing an ARG whose story setting is the universe of a MMO that I play. It's not Neverwinter Nights (which is not a MMO), but since that will do for an example I will treat it as if NWN is the actual game in question.

The target audience is the people who actively use the roleplaying/storytelling subforum of the game's official forum. These are people who frequently roleplay in the online video game and who are accustomed to roleplaying in the online forum for the game. Some of them may have experience with an ARG but the expectation is that none of them will, so they won't know what to expect as the ARG progresses.

As a player of this ARG, you are progressing happily through the story that is set in the NWN universe, when the group is presented with an obstacle - a number whose meaning isn't immediately clear but which appears to be a key to continuing the narrative. Given some analysis, it's determined that the number represents an identifier for a particular downloadable NWN module. The next step, then is to literally play in the NWN universe by loading up this specially designed module, playing it through, and reporting your results.

As a player of an ARG up that that point, how do you feel about being detoured into the video game proper in order to continue with the ARG?

Does it destroy immersion? Enhance it? Neither? How viable do you feel a hybrid approach to be?
