Guys, do you remember that old picture ?

Well the movie was presented at the "Festival de Cannes" in France, and a journalist made an article about the 30min preview, someone posted in the comments if the monster was like the picture, the journalist answered :

"Yes I was looking for that picture, cause it's exactly the creature!"

I don't know what to think.

I think something must be off or taken out of context then, there's no way it looks just like that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Where are his tentacles?!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm thinking it will have less of a face (which kind of already is disappointing to me because part of the fear of a creature is seeing a sinister evil look in whatever its face is, so I hope our guy has a face and eyes. Judging from those clips in the new trailers, I'm guessing most of the shots we will see of this thing will be a big mass of tentacles, and for some reason I'm expecting him to be able to go invisible. Something about that scene with the military flamethrowering a field just makes me think that they are using tactics because they can't always see it.

Those look like the cubes that can be seen in the Portal 2 trailer on the ground after the train explosion, and like the cube that flies out of Joe's room in the trailer.

The cube in Joe's room is pretty small / tiny. ^_^

Either way, can't wait to see it!

In the sneak peek in the scene of the cop at the gas station, I got a clip of what looks like ITS tentacle/arm/appendage reaching out. And just between the scene where IT seems to attack the lineman from the shrubs and where the cherry picker truck starts to fall, there's a brief clip that looks like a hand of some sort grabbing something. I don't know if the 'hand' belongs to IT or if it could be the lineman's hand wearing a heavy rubber glove. Here's a copy of both. I'm on my work computer with a lousy monitor - so don't know how clear the captures are - but from what I can see, neither seems to belong to the creature in the artwork above.

EDIT: Just looked at better/clearer pics on my computer at home. After looking at the scene with the cop at the gas station - I'm pretty sure that's NOT part of IT. Instead it looks like the cop's other arm swinging up as he turns - just a little blurred from movement.
The other pic is definitely the lineman's gloved hand grasping the rail of the cherry picker bucket just before he's yanked off.

wow, what the H is that thing behind the dumpster??? I think your second pic is definitely the utility workers hand in a glove, but that brief glimpse of whatever that is behind the dumpster is legit. So is the creature inside the dumpster then? becuase i thought it looked like he just threw it there from behind the building.

man this is going to be a loooooong month of waiting

@octominou: that sounds awesome!

Can you post a link to the article/write-up where the journalist from Cannes says that it's the same creature?

Everything I've read on the Cannes showing was that a 20-minute sneak-peek was seen, like in the US and Australia (like BuzzSugar's posting): http://www.buzzsugar.com/Super-8-Details-16501249

BuzzSugar didn't mention seeing the full creature in their 20 minute preview. Where did the other journalist see it? His could be the biggest spoiler, yet.

Thanks!

Well it's a French article, so...

http://www.lyricis.fr/cinema-serie-tv/super-8-compte-rendu-visionnage-d%E2%80%99un-extrait-de-30-minutes-du-film/#comment-128953

In the comments "Lyricis" (the journalist) said "C'est exactement ça je trouvais plus la photo !"

Translation : "It's exactly that, I couldn't find the photo".

So I write a little comment about the picture, saying it was just a concept art from a deviant art, he answered me : "Concept-Art ou pas c'est bien ce qui se reproche le plus de la bête du film, CQFD."

Translation : "Concept art or not, it's the one who looks like the beast in the movie."

Well sorry for my bad English, I'm a Frenchie. :p

I hope it's not that monster btw...

Yeah I'm not buying that at all, we can see that window getting blown out by a tentacle and that picture has no tentacles. It may be the picture that MOST looks like what he saw in the preview, but thats the only concept art picture that is even considered for super8, so what is its competition?? Bottom line, I highly doubt JJ Abrams' monster will have that Lilo & Stitch face, way too cartoony and laughable, it will look otherworldly or at least mysterious, not like a cartoon villain

Thanks for posting the article link! And, your English is fantastic ^_^

I studied French for five years and am...'conversational', by no means fluent, haha.

You're right in what you posted. The journalist does claim that the concept art monster is what he saw.

Hmmm, since Abrams is so super-secretive, do you all think it's possible that he's planting different versions of the monsters in each preview?

Here are 2 reasons why:

1. The concept art is the real monster, was accidentally leaked, and Abrams and the studio are trying to throw viewers off the scent.

2. None of us have seen the real monster yet, at all, and every tentacle, claw and version we've seen are all fake-me-outs until the premiere.

He's made it pretty clear he likes to keep his secrets 'secret' until he's ready to unveil them. And, planting a fake in all of the spots until the release would do just that.

Say cheese -

I think anything's possible. He does seem to like to keep people guessing.

Supposedly JJ spent his junior year of college studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. I bet he speaks some French too.

Hope you got your cheddar. Smile

Stan -

I edited my post above to say...

Oh well - seeing things again. Rolling Eyes

Cheese, to prevent you from spoiling (literally), I'll put your mind at ease. That picture was found in late 2009, and the artist of the Super 8 Creature had stated in an interview that J.J. had just hired him to design it, but that was in mid-2010.
That picture is indeed fake, because the same person that drew his interpretation of the Cloverfield monster in 2008, also designed this one. This is a post-production creation, guys.
Not to mention the 30 minute teaser where it was mentioned that:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When the dumpster is thrown past the deputy, the journalist described the creature's moans and the lashing of tentacles, and though not showing it, the sounds were legitimate. Also, when the clerk is listening to music in his earphones, in the background it shows the deputy's vehicle getting walloped by tentacles.

LOL.

Ok on a more serious note, throwing something out there for thought. Not sure if it should be in spoiler tags or not but doing it anyways..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

We all know at this point electrical parts are a big...part....of this movie. The scene with the store clerk and the cassette player for example. A spoiler somewhere said that the clerk was showing off his new cassette player not long before he's attacked. The next one we know of (not specifically in order) is the lineman and his rig appearing to come under attack, again, electricity. Maybe these people are not so much "prey" as they are just in the way of the creature getting what it wants. We don't know yet about the other 7 people missing, so I could be totally wrong. I'm also thinking that the scenes with the cars lights flashing, house lights flashing is really just the creature moving by (or over if it can fly). I know this might all sound out-there, but stuff is starting to tie together. Even the power lines falling on the train car that holds the creature could be more important than we first thought.

Ok last thing, for those of you with a good sound system in your house or apartment, crank up the volume and bass during the fear.net trailer. At the point of the building exploding and after, it's just EPIC.

Ok, could be bull, but I saw a guy on IMDB who said that in fact there were
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
2 monsters, the one that we had a glimpse of in the latest TV spots, that he described like this: There are two creatures... One is not evil and the other is berserking beast. One is small, but posses telecinetic powers and the other looks like a mutated bull with scorpion tail and legs. Wait till you see the movie...

Sounds pretty obvious to me that there are indeed two creatures, I don't find it accurate that the monster we saw would be the one levitating things and manipulating electricity, about that, here's an other interesting piece of news by the same guy on IMDB (take it as you will, but I find it legit):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I havent seen the full movie, but I can tell you some pieces of info... I am gonna give you one more hint... The train plays much bigger role then just the one to crash. The creatures are not extraterestrials. The large berserking creature is much more then just a mutant...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cant answer any of those, except that the whole thing starts and ends with the same train. Lights are flickering from the small guy. When passing by electric equipment he either powers it or sucks the power out of it. Thats the scene from the trailer when the kids are rounded up around something bright.

"is much more than a mutant" he does say for the bigger creature, so is it Josh's father maybe? This reminds me of the guy who saw 30 min and said that the monster was huge and had tentacles, and that it was so big that he couldnt see it fit in the train car, what if two monsters are in it?!

Hell, even if there was only one monster, why the hell would the professor derail the train to set loose a gigantic monster that would rip shit out and kill everyone?! From what we could see at the gas station scene + some glimpses of the clerk's reaction when seeing the beast, it sure as hell isnt nice, and it must be scary as shit (Elle Fanning is seen screaming in one of the latest tv spots).

So what do you think guys?! I just think there's the huge monster terrorizing the town and another small one who can do telekinesis + manipulate electricity.[/sub]

Plus it would definitely be surprising, since the tv spot kept saying "It escaped", "It had as a plan", that way, you keep saying to yourself that there's one and only one creature.

I dont buy a word written by the guy on IMDB, just strikes me as someone that wants to captivate this whole crowd of us losers who can't keep our minds off this film.

I will be 100% shocked if on June 10th there is a giant mutated bull/scorpion hybrid on the screen, its just too dumb. That's the stuff syfy channel movies are made of...

Back to the point about electricity playing a role in the attacks by the creature, I really like that idea. The guy who saw the 30 min preview and mentioned the tentacles and the fact that it was huge, he stressed that the clerk was bragging about his new walkman to the deputy. I dont know what a giant extraterrestrial octopus can do with a walkman, but I too noticed the power lines laying down and sparking right on top of the car with the creature, maybe thats what woke it up...
