The "John O" from that blog post is probably a fake out. John Ostrander was the writer most associated with Suicide Squad where Amanda Waller's character came to prominence. Of all people he WOULD be the one most in a position the reveal all her secrets.

I got a new reply from AW today as well. She was responding to what I had sent her in response earlier.

Dear Amanda,

The many photos (Several from credible news organizations like Reuters and CBS) in the video you sent me I believe is very substantial evidence to support what I have seen yet we need to investigate more to just what the Green Streaks are. It is all about scientific theory. We have proven in fact that the Green Streaks exist. Now we must figure out what they are.

On to your issue with the red lights and aiming the Spitzer Space Telescope. Did you try looking at 2682? I have found another possible location for you to look at 37263288 My little telescope can only get me so far.

AW's response today was this.
Quote:
Greystone,
I haven't seen any of these 'green streaks' as you call them, however I have been receiving increasing numbers of reports of people claiming to see such phenomena. Please rest assured I and my assistant shall review your evidence in full. My assistant Robert Fraser is particularly interested in these 'green lights' as he feels it links into his research. I shall mention it to him.

Keep watching the skies!

AW

I guess we need to start looking into assistant Robert Fraser.

So I sent an email to Dr. Waller to try and determine what era the arg is set in, just to try and satisfy my curiosity, here's what it said:

Quote:
Dr. Waller. I was the one who sent the photo with the red dots that you said was a spectacular image.

Ive heard from a little birdie, this whole Cygnus thing may be giving you a headache. This blog is for conversation as you started, so I would like to ask you about something a little off topic from the Cygnus situation.

I have heard a great many things about Bell Reeve, and I was curious if or any of your "Squad" have encountered any of the masked vigilantes I hear rumors about all the time. I believe the two most popular ones are located in Gotham and Metropolis.

I am just wondering if you can offer any confirmation on or off the record, about whether those or any other specific "extra-normal" individuals exits.

-In Brightest Day

Here is her response:

Quote:
I and my assistant Robert Fraser are still reviewing your image. We are receiving more and more such images by the day. It will be some time before we can collate the data and reach a decision on the proper course of action.
As for my "Squad" I am not sure as which group of subordinates you refer, however you should know that all activities carried out at Belle Reve are considered "Classified".
As you must be aware, a woman of my clearance level must always considered myself On-Record.
So I really can not comment.
As for these vigilantes, I believe that is a case for the authorities of those regions. Though we have received strange claims from both Gotham and Metropolis, however these phenomena often turn out to be nothing more than an elaborate hoax.
We receive many reports of people with super-human qualities but as yet no proof has been established to confirm these claims.
Keep watching the skies!
AW

So apparently its going to take "some time" for her to make up her dang mind. Shes such a slowpoke. Razz

As for my inquiry it seems that Batman and Superman are merely rumors right now in the time period this is taking place in. Which fits with the timeline of the GL movie.

Thought I'd de-lurk and say that I also sent an email to Dr. Waller. Hadn't gotten to it before but just as well, since she's posted a bit more since then... I can post the text of my email if helpful (no reply yet), but basically I tried to get some hint of whether there's some lead we should be following we're not, or whether she can tell us what the "tipping point" might be in terms of emails/evidence.

I sure hope that there's something to all this... they sure are going about it in a pretty oblique fashion, which gives me some hope. Would they bother if they didn't have larger plans? Eh, guess we'll see... I'm new to DC so glad that there are some diehards here to clue me in on the references.

Well This is No Good

I'm getting bored with this. Anyone else bored? *this is why I like physical puzzles you can complete in a day (if you are good enough)*

Okay let's rattle her (his) chain -- whoever is in charge of this freight train to nowhere -- and see if we can get some momentum here. If there is some secret deadline they are locked on, there is not much we can do... however, if it's an actual "reason" they are looking for... I think I might have one. Give me a 1/2 hour. I'll update you all with my email.

Maybe it's just pre-movie character building, then we get to see Waller's motivations (and possibly some stuff about the telescope etc.) in the movie and the actual ARG kicks off post movie? A reverse of the typical ARG that is supposed to build interest, but instead one designed to KEEP our interest past the movie into the sequel, or into JLA?

But I agree... not much actually happening.

Amanda Waller, PHD

Dear Doctor Waller:

This letter is an urgent request for your assistance in redirecting the Spitzer Telescope towards the May 1, 2011 Cygnus Event first brought to our attention by the now famous TMBS (This Might Be Something) Newton & District Astronomer's blog post. www.newtonastronomers.com. My urgency is based on well documented evidence, historical data and verifiable findings from world renown scientist and scientific insinuations across the globe which I have also provided in this letter below. My sources are indisputable, my reasoning is sound. Time is critical.

If you are not familiar with the Cygnus constellation, its very existence is somewhat of an improbability. Just as we do not know how the bumble bee's awkward body can fly, we do not yet understand why Cygnus is not a black hole, only that it isn't. Cygnus is made up of many stars but it's largest has a mass 40 times that of our sun. Additionally, we know from drilling ice core samples in Antarctica that there were at least three cases in the last 100,000 years (60,000 years ago, 40,000 years ago and 17,000 years ago) when Cygnus underwent an almost repetitive pattern called "quasi-periodic oscillation" sending out gamma rays from deep space at a 2,000 yr stretch at a time. Even more incredible, those rays, even after traveling through deep space, arrived without the expected rate of proton decay exhibited by all other forms of radiation penetrating our magnetosphere deep into our earth's crust which, ironically, is where we first discovered Cygnus's radiation could be picked up as white noise. The significance is obvious. We are currently defenseless. Which leads me to your original question....

Q: What legitimate reason can we give you for redirecting the Spitzer?

First, we know that Cygnus is volatile, so any changes should be investigated promptly. Ignorance is not bliss. If the earth is about to be bombarded with high doses of radiation they have a right to know about it.

Second, putting the public health issue aside, there is an even bigger more immediate concern to consider. Radiation effects two things, not just DNA alone. It also affects semiconductors creating SEUs (i.e., Single Event Upset). This is what should keep you up at night in a cold sweat. Why? Well because just about every advanced piece of modern technology we own uses them. Military most of all. My God. Can you even imagine what would happen if you KNEW about a possible atmospheric radiation flare, it happens, and you never told anyone? Do you think the boys in Langley will be impressed with your name then? There is a not a not a budgetary flow chart or yearly expense report that impressive.

Look, this is just good politics and common sense. A 5 billion dollar US shuttle is orbiting above our heads right now. Terms like catastrophic engine failure and re-entry burn-up are not something you want any part of. Take the monetary hit. CYA. Redirect the Spitzer Telescope.

Do it now while there is still time.

Then I just copy and pasted most of Wikipedia Cygnus page and some experts from Cygnus Mystery. Way too much for this board, it was overkill.

Response received yesterday to an email I sent last week. I included a image that I saw someone else attach in an email to the Dr. Waller email address.

apologies for not getting to your email sooner, my inbox has been very much blocked up by time wasters. THat is indeed one of the best images I've seen yet of the anomoly, and it gives me hope that there might really be something in this.
I am investigating lines of enquiry and capacity is very stretched for the next few days, but it's heartening to know that not everyone who writes to me is just trying it on.

Dear Dr Waller,
I'd like to support the Newton Astronomers Guild's application for a closer look at the Cygnus anomaly. My observations support their assertion that completely new artifacts have appeared in this sector of space and this needs to be investigated.

Attached you will be able to see an image taken from telescope of the mentioned anomaly. It is my hope that some investigation into this matter can be achieved.

Yeah,

This is on hold for at least the next few days. Is there another ARG that seems to be heating up? This was the only one I was following.

Ms Wilson,

thank you for your extremely comprehensive letter. I have been so gratified by how the amateur community has pulled together to help the astronomers. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I am not able to honor your request for a few days, but believe me, I am extremely grateful for all your thoughtful research.

Please have patience with the machinations of government bureaucracy - I will be in touch soon

AW

Drwaller.net update.

There's a new post on Drwaller.net titled OK. Starman is going to point the Spitzer at Cygnus. News next week.

Quote:
It takes a lot to impress me. Those of you who have been regular readers on this blog know that. I am not inclined to change my mind once I have made it up. There are reasons that my nickname is "The Wall".
However, I allow that I am impressed. And a little bit annoyed. Almost two weeks ago, four young astronomers from the U.K. e-mailed me about red fuzzy objects they had seen in the sky near Cygnus and asked if I could have NASA point the Spitzer Space Telescope in that direction to look at them. At the time, my answer was "No, I won't".
Well, now I guess it is, "Yes, I will."
It seems they have a lot of friends. A lot of friends. And they've all been e-mailing me about the red fuzzy objects and flashes in the stars and couldn't I have the Spitzer Space Telescope check them out pretty please it's really important and so on. You've been clogging up my inbox something fierce and I can't get anything done until it slows down.
So I want over to my favorite starman, the noted astronomer Dr. Theodore Knight, and showed him what you folks in the amateur community sent and what did he think and so on. He hemmed and hawed a bit but he did say it was peculiar looking and he'd check with the Spitzer folk. Long story short, it's going to take some days, but they'll let me know when we reach the top of the priority queue. It's shorter than the regular folks queue, but even *I* can't get to the head of it straight away.
I'll let you know what we get. Check in next week for some news.
Oh, and I should also warn all of you that another friend of mine, a minister, the slightly Reverend Richard Cramer, described the fact that I changed my mind on something as one of the untold signs of the Apocalypse. He's exaggerating but children. . .
Get right with the Almighty. Fast.

So looks like we'll get something new next week.

Green Lantern ARG

Okay,

Something just happened. It could be nothing, I won't lie. I might have hit something and didn't realize it, but I would like someone whose good at masking codes in photos to take a look. First, let me tell you what happened.

I was playing around on this site created by Niels Provos and downloaded:
http://www.outguess.org/detection.php

NOTE: I'm new. I don't know what I am doing but I wanted to have whatever it was on his site on my computer incase that site ever goes down. It's old. It looks like he built it with geocities. Anyway...

So I opened it expecting to see a GUI, maybe a help page or a how to text file, and nothing happened. I waited some more...... and then all of the sudden this popped up. Completely unrelated. WTH?

M'kaaay. So whatever this is I downloaded it using chrome on the 17th. So I opened my chrome history.... ANGRY SWAN gif?

So here is the file...

Can you please you take a look and tell me if I am crazy, also, can you tell me what the heck it was I downloaded? Outguess?

Thank You
Chrissy
