Thanks Smile I'm enjoying old Gil Kane GL comics while I wait for this to get into gear, or NOT... lol.

I guess I'm one of those "time-wasters", since I haven't heard anything from Dr. Waller. Didn't make up anything to attach to my email, guess I should have! Figured I'd at least get a standard reply though.

Guess we have to wait til next week, with some news re: Spitzer. They're really cutting it close on time, so it does seem like we're not going to get much... too bad. Half a mind to go join the Real Steel campaign just on account of it being 42E (high ARG standards over here lol!).

Crissy101: Not entirely sure what made it open at that moment, but somehow you must have downloaded/opened the sidebar GIF ad from the Newton site. Advertisement for an OOG website (but still movie advertising). I'm not entirely sure if it has to do with whatever "ARG" we're working on, outside of the "angry swan"/Cygnus connection (ie, no hidden codes etc). Though I swear that quote is weirdly familiar...

The quote is from full metal jacket. This is my gun etc. I mentioned this in the first couple pages of this thread. Razz

It's not just full metal jacket, it's taken from the rifleman's creed. It's actually quite famous; it's the marine's life doctrine, as all recruits are required to learn it ^_^

Ah, see, THAT'S what happens when you multi-task while reading forums Razz I still feel like I've seen it with the "swan" bit but I guess that's just my imagination from hearing it before (my cousin's a marine, actually).

got a new mail from Amanda Waller:

We've had some great observations from the community, which I've handed on to Dr Knight to show NASA. Keep watching the blog for more news, and thanks for your interest in this mater.

R. Frazer got mail! The manuscript is a passage from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. A trans from the Middle English is:

Quote:
Well garbed was this giant geared in green,
and the hair of his head like his horse's mane.
Fair fanned-out flax enfolds his shoulders;
A beard big as a bush over his breast hangs,
that with the haul of hair that from his head reaches
was clipped all round about above his elbows,
that half his hands thereunder were hid in the wise
of a king's broad cape that's clasped at his neck.
The mane of that mighty horse was much alike,
well crisped and combed, with knots full many
plaited in thread of gold about the fair green,
here a thread of the hair, and there of gold.
The tail and his forelock twinned, of a suit,
and bound both with a band of a bright green,
dressed with precious stones, as its length lasted;
then twined with a thong, a tight knot aloft,
where many bells bright of burnished gold ring.
Such a man on a mount, such a giant that rides,
was never before that time in hall in sight of human eye.

Those inked markings (top & bottom)look like a PigPen cipher 'tho it's a varient I don't know. Hope it's not also M.English. Smile

I agree on the PigPen cipher, but haven't gotten far with it. I also noticed subtle markings on one of the words. Could this be a hint at the key to use?

Nice swan (well, I guess it COULD be a duck) on the top of that image. Probably too detail-oriented, but any chance those "stray ink" dots are a clue to another constellation? Will look at the whole thing more, just throwing that out there now... *EDIT* Can't find any matching constellations (quick look though), and not having any luck yet with assuming they somehow indicate letter positions for a Pigpen cipher. Working under assumption that darker/paler symbols work like "*" in standard cipher. Getting nonsense (not even Middle English nonsense). Not sure I have much skill at codebreaking, but I'm especially bugged by the first four characters; what word would repeat like that, other than "AT-AT"? lol.

Just for the curious, got a reply to my Waller email yesterday. Really does look like most of these were typed up on a case-by-case basis, someone's working hard!:
Quote:

thank you very much for your respectful mail, and apologies that the pressure on my inbox has been so intense that I haven't got to reply to it until now.

The community handled getting alternate evidence together beautifully and we've had missives and images from amateur astronomers from all over the world. It's now in the capable hands of Ted Knight, and I'm sure he'll help us get the answers we are seeking.

pigpen cipher

I've plugged the symbols into this pigpen cipher tool but what comes out is still gibberish as far as I can tell.

There may be another layer of encryption behind it as well.

Perhaps someone else is better at cryptanalysis...

I'm sorry... where can one see the full email with the cipher?

It's Robert Frazer's post here: http://www.bleedingcool.com/forums/showthread.php?41435-Largest-True-Colour-Sky-Survey-Created/page4
