Hard to say. Both had its highs and lows...
I enjoyed Cloverfield because you could contact all the characters, even if the conversations weren't really ARG related. And the mystery was kinda deeper, since we didn't get what the heck was going on at all Very Happy
So our imagination was radically involved.

In Super8 we have more structured overview about the story and backgrounds - and this is also cool in its own way. Then, it has not so many gamejackers like CF. I like the design of Super8 ARG better (even if I am Slusho-Junkie, lol). The PDP-11 is cool, the Rocket Poppeteers are cool. And - important thing - they learned how to bring updates into the game - the whole rhythm of Super8 is better: not too quick, but not too slow. There are no brakes, like in Cloverfield (recall the torturring TIDOWave pause Smile)

So, I'd say: the JJ ARGs are getting better and better, whoever does them (and I have slight assumption, CF, Star Trek and Super8 ARGs are made by the same team - sorry, dear PMs, if I'm wrong). Anyway: very JJ style.

The CF arg required more player participation.. puzzles to figure out and more fingers on the hand.. Plus, the approaching monster destroying the oil rig and the mysterious slusho ingredients effect on those who ate it was intriguing..

In contrast, this thingy is all about reading. There have been few things that need to be solved as most time has been spent waiting for the next thing to read about.. Many loose ends not explained..The immersion factor is seriously lacking here. Audience participation is minimal and this makes the last year a waste of time for me.

Cloverfield, by far. Super 8 looks like it will be the better movie though.
