[SPEC] The Unraveling

A place to *discuss* our ideas about this website (and various puzzles).

It first appeared after the hack on Urban Mythology. Ed has often given us ideas (clues) for some of the solves. Many of the pages have been more than one puzzle, leading to different pages.

So far nothing has directly related to Dread House, or Seventh Sons, or Tomorrow's Talk, or Cambridge Mental Hospital.

Pulling from THIS thread...

As you can see from Kender's page, or if you want to just look at the www.theunraveling.com/fearsome/gb1.gif images, they are beatles -- lets say scarab beetles? There are apparently over 30,000 species of scarab beetles. Anyway, scarab beetles are a sign of reincarnation/resurectino for the Egyptians. They also go through Complete Metamorphosis which means: egg -> larva -> pupa -> adult. Maybe this is a site by the "iaminvisible" killer(s).

[Edit by kona: change the number in the gif from 1 to 2, to 3, etc to 14 in order to see all the different beetles)

I was thinking about this last night, about how diversionary these puzzles in The Unraveling have been. Why are we given puzzles here? What is the purpose?

Diversion.
Keeps us from working on the Seventh Sons access.

If you are a member of the 7th Sons, access on Sunday nights is easy and fairly quick. But we are slogging along and got stuck on that "crossword" type puzzle.

Then we work on The Unraveling and isn't it great to keep making progress? Yup. So we keep working through it and ignore 7th Sons.

Just something that made me go "hmmmm" last night. I'm probably wrong.

I was thinking something similar, though I didn't think of it as keeping us from TSS... I was just thinking these puzzles are pointless and really seem to add nothing to the plot. They, in my opinion, make this game boring. Not saying the puzzles themselves are bad mind you. I think I'm going to maybe look back at TSS again.

If this helps me understand the mystery that is Dick Clark, I'm willing to plunge forward.

It's just something for us to do while we wait for the Seventh Sons. If you have noticed, incredibly, we get a new pouzzle every few days in this game, right from the start.

The Unraveling helps continue that. Maybe at the end, it will give us a Seventh Sons clue.

Hi tommy, welcome to the game.

I would suggest getting used to the Search feature. The link you found here has been discovered (and solved) long ago. A quick search on the phrase "thefirststep" brings you to this thread where all discussion about it took place:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=77572&highlight=thefirststep#77572
Be careful to search next time before posting "new info" so we don't have to Trout you!

Happy hunting, and thanks for helping...
