I'm inclined to think that any real world significance the Operator Symbol has is a coincidence. It was likely chosen for its being somewhat ominous, and easy to draw.

This was my assumption. I doubt the symbol has much real-world significance, in spite of the many analogs noted in this thread. It's fun to speculate, though, and the info here is certainly interesting to a former liberal arts major with no technical skills, such as... you know... some people I know...

If there even is a real-world significance to the Operator symbol, I would think it's this.

It usually means an existing tree that the landscaper is working around.

Using that creative noggin of mine, I could see that as the person that draws the Operator symbol being the landscaper and the tree being a rather tall and pale one.

at my school, the operator symbol means "something to be destroyed" they marked the old benches, pillars, trees, and un-neded gate to the pe area with it

There are many real-world significances to the symbol proper. But for the most part, the usage in Marble Hornets doesn't have any relation.

I personally think that, given Slendy's lack of eyes, it is the only thing he can draw.

That, or the no face idea.

The Zodiac connection

I was looking up stuff about the Zodiac Killer, and imagine my surprise when I saw this symbol:

It was his signature. Tilt it about 45 degrees, and you'll get the operator symbol.

I know I've already posted something like this before, but I felt like I couldn't just put it in a previous post, and then be forgotten. You can merge this, mods, to the previous post if you want.

I'll be damned if uF starts becoming elitist.

Gimme20, I think that this is an awesome find, haha. I give credit to the guys (Troy and company) for finding such an easy-to-place symbol that now strikes fear and awesome horror memories in commonplace areas.

Burn out? Child dies? That's pretty fucking relevant. Nice find!
