Wait... Dana is our friend

Quote:
I am particularly grateful to those crew members, such as the Boise Squad and FluffyJester 310, who have shown special initiative in tracking down the Killer, and suggested some very creative methods of ... enforcing her cooperation or surrender.

Isn't it the concensus that Dana, being an innocent human being, shouldn't be gave up like this? Yes, it's a game, but a game in which an immersive reality is created... and as with reality, life is precious. So, why are we so eager to have Dana caught by this psychotic AI and harmed for no reason?

This isn't an opportunity to flame, this is a moment to reflect on what is going on. Think about it, she has done nothing.... we are all lying to Melissa and pretending to be her crew, but in reality we are still just a bunch of people.

Sorry boys, she's a danger to our mission. Let the wetwork commence! </sarcasm>

Always wondered why everyone was so gung ho after Dana though. Maybe we're getting a bit sidetracked with the good and evil routines.

Dana is no danger at all to our mission...she has no clue how to fix things...someone....try telling Mellisa that SHE is the Assassin...maybe that'll spark some controversy

People want to eliminate Dana because they are so obsessed with being in the limelight that they will give up an innocent to achieve their goal.

When you have a system like this where it 'rewards' such betrayls (as having your name seen by a bunch of people). Decadence only gets you so far, but kindness and being HUMAN, that's what it's all about... We know earth is about to be attacked by a unimagineable alien force in the future, and all we can think about is giving up an oblivious bystander stuck between all of this..

sick

Well you know those video gamers - try every button, see what blows up. Problem is, in this game we don't get to replay it if we don't like the first path we choose.

<oops, that combination blows me up along with the bad guys>
<eh, who cares, got three lives left...>

I hope (expect?) the plot of the game can be written around the contradictory plot pressure from the audience.

There's room for people to play this thing out different ways. What if I suspect Dana? Why did Melissa choose the ilovebees website anyway? At any rate there's no reason to call someone an 'idiot' for playing a certain way. You cannot possibly expect every person involved with this thing to fall into the plot line you want. I'm sure the designers figured there'd be conflicting interests anyway, no reason to assume it'll ruin the game.

Sure. But so what? If all x,000 of us are on the same side (e.g., Dana's), then that side is going to have an enormous advantage, and the story will grind to a halt. It will be much more interesting to have us helping both Dana/SP/Flea and Melissa, and thus keeping the struggle close until the game ends. There's a lot more room for interesting story-telling that way.

Do you guys not honestly belive that all the major events of this ARG were planned from the very begining? If Melissa is asking us for help finding Dana, then Bungie WANTS us to give her away.

I agree that most events were planned in the beginning, this is just a fork in the road. Melissa wants us to turn over Dana, Dana doesn't want us to turn her over. So the choice is up to us which road we want to go down.

or, maybe even the other way around. maybe they are just trying to see how easily we will give up for more info.... maybe if people had held out and not said anything about dana, maybe the game would go a completlly different way. just some burn out thoughts.

I was directly responsible for the deaths
of all twenty-four thousand colonists when
the Pfhor returned and sacked the planet.
..
Yet I cannot think of any better way I
could have served humanity: Tau Ceti's
sacrifice bought time for Earth, which the
Pfhor are even now planning to invade.
What would have happened if the Pfhor had
found Sol first?
..
Our means are the same, though we pursue
different ends.

We listened before. My gut says we're going to be saying this. We're going to know the pain he had.

Whoa there Tank.

Adam is not anything of the sort. He was trying to get Melissa to listen to reason by starting with a tantilizing, and vague, reference to the fact that she was somewhere in China or Japan. What Melissa didn't broadcast was Adam going on to try and convince her that Dana was a civilian and not a threat.

Be careful when you jump to conclusions. That first step is a doozie.

Few or none of us has any idea what was actually said in any of those conversations that she mentions. People could have been feeding her false information for all we know.

We've argued, debated, and bitched at each other about this for... What two weeks? More?

Most people seem to agree, yes, Dana is an innocent, and we (or rather most of us) are trying to protect her as one of our goals. The thing is that we're a huge group of people and not everybody is going to agree on how to go about doing it. Not to mention the fact that nobody is perfect, and people make mistakes. (Like giving away more information then they think they are.)

It is true that there are some people who seem to think that Dana is "expendable". And while I really don't agree, with every fiber of my being, it does not make them idiots. (Although I do have a... "theory", for lack of a better word, that they're not really thinking rationally. That is only my opinion, and it is always possible that I am wrong.)

dana

I don't think we should assume that everything in the story was planned.

We don't know which aspects were planned and the PMs have shown some adaptability-- I mean we did have to actively rescue the Sleeping Princess. It was a pretty sure bet that we would choose to rescue her and that having chosen to act-- we would succeed. Still, we aren't actors reading a script.

Also, astald had to work out how to get the message to the Pious Flea. Those waves would not be active if he hadn't.

If I am forced to choose, I am with Dana all the way here.

Still, I understand that people have different perspectives and insights. That is what makes the game so great.

Scary thought:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Complete and utter speculation, but what if the Flea is the Assassin? IE, the one who caused the crash and the AI trouble?
