I feel like this should be said

Alright, I've been doing a lot of thinking and I haven't really been lurking like I have been when I first started Stopping Lights. I think that you guys as a whole should really hear opinions. Not flaming, opinions. Because I know most, if not all of you, are capable of such.

The following is my opinion and my opinion only. This has nothing to do with anyone but myself. I figured that I'd let you know how I feel about the SMM subforum of UF

Before you start raging, this in no way reflects the rest of the slenderverse. Not the other creators and not the fans.

Also, I feel like I should say something about this again (because it's in the link above). Please, PLEASE do not link anything from someone's personal blog without their consent. I do understand that you guys are fans/creators/friends and are buddy-buddy with other fans/creators, but it infuriates me to see people here just link things without thinking about immersion/personal business/etc. It's just more of a courtesy to ask before you go head first into posting things.

Also, if this thread gets out of hand in anyway, feel free to lock it.

I respect this thread. More people should be this up front without being rude. Myself included.

Pfft. Lock it? Hell no, this needs to be read. By everyone.

I admit, I have probably caused a bit of the trouble myself, and for that, I'm sorry. I'm trying to be neutral, and to solve problems rather than cause them.

I never liked us having an OOG thread or open public discussion of people's personal blogs or tumblrs. I was much more comfortable with us all simply creeping shamelessly and not talking about it in polite company. It seemed slightly less exploitative. So no, I don't condone that, and I think there are only a few posters who really pushed that onto the forum as a public issue. I didn't agree with that, but the mods felt differently.

As for blogs and vlogs, the simple fact is that any one forum in a fandom is different from any other. That's the nature of variety, and the Internet. One place may focus on one aspect, another board on a different one. Blogs have a less concentrated interest on UF, but there is interest, and I don't think anyone is actively campaigning against them here. No one is concertedly ignoring them or knocking them off page 1 - I enjoy TrailheadTroll's work and I know other people do as well. I follow certain blogs. But is UF largely vlog-centric? Yes, I think so, and honestly there's nothing wrong with that. It's just the way things happen in discussion forums, organically. I'm not going to suggest it should change, and I think that forcing it would only be that - forced. If a blog rises to the top it'll do so because people here want to talk about it, unselfconsciously. There's a fair amount of discussion of several right now, in fact.

When it comes to rude people, there's always going to be bad apples or assholes. The key is managing them or ignoring them. Hopefully with the new mods there will be more of that. I know how I handle most of them - generally, with humor or by completely ignoring them. Nothing stops someone dead more than simply moving on.

I think by no means is anyone innocent here, but I think that people need to stop raging at ever little thing that they don't like and accept that it'll be there. If they don't like it, just avoid it.

Alas, people have gotten used to there being little to no modship here and being able to get away with more. Though, I'd be more that willing to help you guys out if need be (though I'm still hardly on here as it is because I've got personal things to take care of for the time being :/)

Edit: @Qaqa: There are a few people that subtly do it, I feel. Though, hearing things through typed text is a bit harder to decipher than actually hearing someone's voice, so...

I've noticed that, as have Atom and Dixie, and believe me, we're working to change that perception. (Though I'm definitely the most vocal about it. Heh.)

This is what I get for having four hours of sleep and it being 2 am here and me being too tired to proof read XD;

@Qaqa: I meant subtly bash blogs, but it's a bit harder to tell through text than through word of mouth. Sorry for the confusion X.x;

People may have their opinions on some blogs - they may even express them poorly - but I personally don't think there's been any effort to stifle discussion of them on the board. I haven't noticed any subtle bashing, per se, but I may not be paying enough attention. I spoke about some blogs in very general terms when I lost my temper with DaLadybugMan a couple days ago, and I stand by my criticism, although I could've been nicer about it - although he wasn't very nice, and came in here convinced people were out to trash blogs when it just wasn't the case. That being said, I said both then and now that there are blogs I enjoy, and I'm surely not alone in that. All any of us can do, I think, is discuss the individual elements of the mythos that we enjoy whether it's a blog or a vlog or whatever. And if the discussion ebbs or flows one way or another in the overall tracking of board topics, that's that. I really don't think that can be helped, but if there is actual bashing of blogs in general, that can. Criticism of an individual vlog or blog is its own issue.

Chase, I respect your opinions, but I do have to point out the irony of you stating in your blog post about not wanting to see people posting it here, then you go ahead and link it anyway. Razz

No, in all seriousness, your opinion is a valid one. I try to stay away from infighting and just keep to the discussion of the series themselves.

To be fair, Chase said she didn't want to find it here without her permission.

No, I know that. It just struck me as odd. I have a weird sense of humor.

I have feeling this has something to do with me.

There is a topic I made for this and you don't have to read if you don't want your immersion ruined.
