The footage is obviously meant to be left over or residue footage of Alexs old college days, as implied by Alex saying, "That must be my old camera from college." Therefore it can't be Jays. There may be clues in the footage, but they're definantly not suppossed to be dissected yet, and are probably just there for effect.
Hope this trims up some loose ends for people. What we should be thinking about is the what happened when the camera finally came on again. You know, the Operator. This really supports the cursed camera theory (Which I don't believe in personally, but it does support it.) And who sent the tape to Jay. That's the only two mysteries about it that need any analyzing.

I theorize that Skullmasky could've been Jay and the footage could be from 2006. This would explain why Jay was gone and why he had so much memory loss from then. I think The Operator could've let go of Jay (And Tim) when Alex ran away, and that The Operator could've taken Tim back when Jay started looking at the tapes. I doubt he's been Skullmasky recently, but I think he could've been before. Also it just seems awfully coincidental Alex would happen to find the camera randomly 3 years later. There' no reason really he would bring it with him to his house after he moved.

Yeah, I always thought it was weird the camera even existed. Especially since Alex was dead set on burning the tapes. Why not burn the camera too? Brings up a good point. I see how the camera could've been planted, I just don't think the creators meant for us to think that. Another thing I don't get about Jay being Skully is why does Alex talk to him immediately after marble hornets, or give him the tapes? If Jay was "gone" and alex knew tim was a masky, why trust anyone from the original crew? But I guess that's just a plot hole.

It's possible Alex didn't know Tim or Jay were maskified, if they were at the time, and may have just noticed that they had all together disappeared. After all they could've disappeared after a while of being maskies. He may have not recognized Jay or Tim if they were wearing masks, (Perhaps Tim was slightly less obvious back then.)

AH, I just meant that I didn't understand how everyone disappeared and then reappeared and immediately afterwards Alex just felt better and gave the tapes to Jay. But what you said makes a lot of sense.
