*sigh* I was looking for easter eggs pretty much the whole time but found nothing of great import... didn't see any RP refs, didn't see Leonard Nimoy either. Will need to watch closer next viewing Smile

In Toronto, quick recap... I was there about 4:30, asking for info about line plans, and they had none. Wouldn't give me any details except tickets will be handed out at 8:30 and no one can line up there. Great organization... I warned them - there will be a line, it's inevitable. Someone should come up with some kind of plan for crowd control.
In the end, a line started forming where they said it wouldn't allowed, so they pushed everyone down a level to the food court (it's a 4 level mall-type building with the AMC on the top floor). So me and a couple others grabbed the closest seats to the escalator, waiting for 8:30ish. We weren't worried about getting in, as they said a 2nd theater would be showing it as well to handle the overbooking (the one smart thing the theater did Razz).
So then about 8:00 a rep came down and said we could go up and line up. We hopped up a level and found a crowd already massed in a bulky crowd-ish line, which you can see in this photo -- I'm under the "il" of Milestones at the back. *tsk*

Anyway, they gave us the t-shirts and pop+popcorn vouchers, and a few pics were taken (facebook link above).
They had the giveaways, but we didn't get trivia - we had 4 seats I believe with an "8" taped underneath; those seats got the handouts (didn't see what was in them, but meh if it was the same as above).

The movie was #mint.

On the way out we also got the posters and a super 8 twitter promo card thing...

Also, JJ gave a foreword before the movie (recorded on-screen; no he wasn't there in person, boo =P). And one screen showed "Tweet from your seat: What is the #Super8Secret?" -- no idea what the purpose of that was, and it was only for a few seconds literally right before the movie started (tsk, encouraging phone use right before a movie?). I tweeted it anyway, in case it was another draw-type thing. But nothing...

That's my Toronto screening recap. More miscommunication between theater and marketing, but a worthwhile event (ymmv) Smile

Keep an eye out for the SINGLE Rocket Poppeteers cameo in the film. I was hoping for more. Sad

I actually found a second!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The one poster on the wall. And Joe wears a Capt. Coop shirt!!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Is the Capt. Coop shirt one from the depot? If so is it the black or red one? Thanks!

Man, not being able to make it to one of the screenings means I'm going to have to pay ebay prices for some of the swag! UGH!

Bobby

No the shirt that is shown is not one that is available in the depot. Though it is probably the coolest RP shirt I have seen. I would definitely like to get my hands on one!

I went to the San Diego screening. I wore my RP shirt from Comic Con (father and son ringer). I saw one other person with one (black Capt Coop). We got there about 5:30 and there were about 35 people in line in front of us. The theater held a little over 200 people. It was not an IMAX theater or even the biggest one in the multiplex. They gave us t-shirts in line and then vouchers for free popcorn and soft drinks. They decided to give the 5 "buckets" first to the person who was first in line (he got there at 2:30), 3 to the people that were the loudest and one for the person who remembered the website the guy worked for. Without giving too much away it was probably the most fun I've had at the movies this year and it totally took me back to the days of getting everywhere on your bike and making movies with your friends. I want to see it again especially after reading about some of the cameos/RP/Slusho appeareances!

At this point my current description of choice for the movie is something along the lines of:

The Goonies meets Cloverfield in 1979 written as Spielberg sci-fi.

Oh and they did not check our names off a list. Someone collected the e-mails but no one looked at them too closely.

Yea.. I gave the guy collecting them my paper, still folded in half, and he didn't even open it. It could have been blank paper with "Super 8" written in crayon and I still would have gotten in.

I wish they had done that for me. I was first in line, and I got there at 2:30 as well. Yes, I came that early. I didn't win a bucket. Trivia was really stupid. Movie was mint.
