I know this from somewhere, but I can't remember what it is. Does anyone know a word that means "sounds like another word"? I have a sickening feeling that it's that simple...

edit: The word was "homophone" and was NOT a solve.

Well there's impersonate. And that would fit with the "cranky old man."

I want to go along the charades path, but I've no idea where to start.

Has anyone gone down the route of breaking down the prepositions? Like, say, trying wavs like "before", "in_the_beginning", etc? Heck, even positioning, like above and so on.

Or has anyone tried a webstripper app pointed at the "outbound" section? It is cheating, but if we get the filenames we can solve the puzzles backwards, if you get me.

Yes, it is cheating. In any case other than Rani's sound files, the files would not be available until unlocked. Solving the puzzle is how we unlock Rani's files.

Check the bottom of this page, rules 3 and 8. http://www.unfiction.com/dev/tutorial/

Most likely, the entire file will be placed on the humpty dumpty page on Tuesday, and then we can reverse engineer the solution that way. However, until then, lets try to solve the puzzle.

I am not even sure how a webstripper would work on this site as there are no links to Rani's sound files.

Here's an angle...

Human gestation lasts 40 weeks....

therefore 41 would be "overdue."

I doubt that they will give us the wav file just because we can't solve the puzzle. I'm sure it will remain unlocked till we solve it. I do hope they give us another clue though if we don't have it by Friday.

Well, I see little has changed... this is either the most difficult puzzle yet, or the one with the least obvious solution that we're all gonna be smacking ourselves over once we figure it out.

How about two prepositions, missing from the list, that sound like each other? Here's a page with a list of 122 prepositions.

Except there is no criteria for solving it. We don't submit any information to them to "unlock" the file. The file is already there. Theoretically, someone could have found it and just not told anyone. The only reason they'll know we haven't solved it is because we've plastered everywhere that it's unsolved.

If you think about it in game, the SP gives us these puzzles one week and then shows us the whole combined files the next week without hearing from us whether or not we solved it. So it's a possiblity they would post the whole thing on Friday, unless people have been e-mailing the SP for hints. Wink

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but I think it might be a possibility. All the prepositions seem to be related to location, (and location does sound a little like preposition) so either that is coincidence or it means something. The number 41 is a prime number, as we've decided, but what could that mean? The clips (especially the later ones) talk about Rani's boyfriend who is on an orbital platform. The clip could possibly be about a "prime location," either for her in Boston or for her boyfriend on the orbital platform. I've tried everything I can think of (prime_location, a_prime_location, prime_locations, etc), and nothing works. Is there something that sounds like prime and might fit with location?

Very convenient I agree, if it were easy to find! Well I've managed to find it, so for those who want to know, you need to go to the #ilb channel on the chat-solutions server. Note that this is NOT the #ilovebees channel, it is simply #ilb. Once there, to use the bot, type "wav wav_name_here" (without the quotes) and the ever so helpful bot will tell you if you're a winner, or more likely (in my case at least), a loser.

How about a great big longshot for my first post...

As I was playing around with the list, I counted up the letters in each one, then did the whole "1=A, 2=B, etc." thing. Absolute jibberish. But when I thought about the "Sounds Like" clue and looked at the letters, I had a thought.

What if "sounds like" refers to music? With the exception of 3 words (underneath, opposite, and throughout), all the corresponding letters are within a simple musical scale. Perhaps the 3 words that don't fit refer to rests or higher notes? Maybe if played it sounds like a song? You know, like Bach, or Chopin, or...I don't know...Billy Joel?

I realize this is REALLY reaching, but I figured I'd speak up and say something.
