Wow i just read this (had a lot of finals this week)
Ok i very much agree with kosmopol's veiw
The comic takes the approach that the "rogue scientists" are the bad ones. And their motives have been changed we know very much that Mr Minker and M's intentions were not to manipulate the cubes. But in this comic it makes them look very sinister.

Which is why the comic does seem like propaganda and makes me question whether RP is what we thought it is.
It's just a theory but maybe RP is actually the "bad" guys and in ARG terms releasing this comic to make it out as if Minker and so on is the bad guys. It would explain why in the newspaper waaaay back when the RP image is marked with the X's

I mean when they "i cant wait to continue our experiments" it does sound like they're making them out to be a bad stereotype.

So who are RP? My thought is RP represents the people running the experiments and Coop actually kind of is NELEC. I know it may sound stupid... But it does seem that considering RP

Backing up my theory:
Page 10: "The Rogue scientists! We locked them away after they crashed our oxborrow spaceplane trying to steal them before" - This may actually represent the train crash in the movie

In the RP Legacy It says they shut down in 1980. 1 year after the movie is set, representing how NELEC's crew got shut down (assuming the bad guys dont win in the movie)

Oh, that's cool, avr1991 - this crashing theme. I've actually overread it, but it's pretty possibly the direct hint about the train crash.
More and more is the whole RP comic for me kind of justification of RPs handling, and I have a feeling, their food engagement was just a spashscreen, since behind of this screen there were military activities.

Even more, since it's JJ Abrams, there won't be the really bad/good guys scenario - everything is complicated. But the characters, who are supposed to be "bad" will have pretty convincing reasons for their acting (just think about Ben from LOST, hehe)

Ok, so I'm playing around with the idea that Wally from the comic is Ralph Frostsky. This would tie him into the backstory and explain how RP knows the alien/cube story to create the comic. The airforce would look at the scientists as "rogue" if they didn't follow the military directive for this Operation Belttrap.

Or maybe mixing tin and aluminum foils for the cap was a BAD idea...

UPDATE. Loking at the scans of Super8 comic again I even have a feeling, it were very different perspective. RP comic is rather Cold war propaganda. Super8 comic has the undertitle: "The Soviets sent a DOG, the U.S. sent a NUKE". And is very different angle of the story.

Really awesome is, these comics - and I say it without beeing megalomaniac or vanity infected person - are made for us. This prehistory is really concepted and designed for ARG players, since nobody else will get the message as we did it. This is one of the high peaks of this Super8 virals. Now I just have to submit my drawings, to show people, they did it not for nothing.

I thought the oxbarrow thing was to do with the sr71 (oxcart). I don't know why or how a group of scientists would crash one, but it's the kind of thing you would use to track something moving v. fast like the cube in the wee lad's bedroom.

I've wrapped my head up like a turkey at christmas and they are still getting through.
