I've already mentioned this to Mad Cow through email and have been nominated to coordinate passphrases, etc on the IRC chat, but I'm also available to do anything else that needs doing. I also have a gmail account. I don't have any axons anywhere near me, so this is about all I can do to help the phone call situation.

I can do the 6-12 PDT shift from Tuesday through Thursday this coming week (Monday's a no-go because my housemate has off, and so's Friday because I have a Revoultionary War re-enactment to attend - my unit, the 1st Ulster County Militia, is hosting the re-enactment of the Burning of Kingston).

Use this number: 845-657-2648, and - as soon as I say "Hello?", ask for "Private Walker" or "Macavity" (occasionally my housemate calls from workto see how I'm doing).

The next week I'll be available for passcode pass-along from Tuesday to Friday, same times PDT, and the week after that I should be available from Monday to Friday, again from 6-12 PDT.

I have the graphics under control for email people, just PM me if you can send to an email address, and I will give you my email address to send to. I will also be posting them on my website, and will forward them on. (Don't worry, I got 455megabits of bandwidth I can consume Razz) Not that I would ever do anything like that *whistles innocently*

Updated Beekeeper Coordination

Updated:

PC: AM: Angelo; PM: Phaedra

PS: Mad Cow, Macavity (I assume this is the position you were volunteering for? Evenings)

CC: KirstenS

FW: ?

BC: ?

GC: Lord Saryon (also email coordinator); we still need someone from 11:45-1:00.

N: ?

Lord Saryon – do you have the ability to receive and post pictures both by email and by phone? If not, we need someone to handle the camera phone transmissions.

We still need a Forum Watcher and someone to help with navigation.

Quote:
Unfortunately, we really have no way of knowing what exactly we are going to do with these pics. Speculating a little bit...is it really feasible for them to be anything other than things to send Melissa after making the calls? About all I can imagine is that she will ask the person on the phone to do.....something, and then take a photo of that ....something, and email it to her within some minimum time period.

anyone else have a logical guess?

I predict she's going to get more complex than last week -- may have one team take a picture at the axon, ask the next team a question about the contents of the picture, and have a third team answer. But I actually have no idea, which is why it would be nice if we could also have a few on-call volunteers in case the task turns out to be nothing like what we expected and we have to regroup quickly.

(Definitions)

PASSPHRASE COORDINATOR (PC): This person will receive new passphrases from beekeepers who have just talked to Melissa. They will then notify the PASSPHRASE SUPPLIER and CHAT COORDINATOR and post the new phrase to a thread in the Forum.

PASSPHRASE SUPPLIER (PS): This individual will know the most recent passphrases and will be the person to call to find out what the newest passphrase is. They will also have the capability to call axon hunters (say, 5 minutes before their axon time) who have notified them ahead of time that they would like such a call and update them with the most current passphrases.

CHAT COORDINATOR (CC): This person will repeatedly broadcast the newest passphrases in #beekeepers and whatever other chat resources beekeepers use. Possibly multiple positions? I really don't know much about the chat resources.

FORUM WATCHER (FW): This person will monitor the forums, in case anyone for some reason posts the new passphrase in a random thread rather than calling in. If someone does, they will inform the PC.

And possibly...

BLOG COORDINATOR (BC): Someone to post updates to the blog and other related media?

GRAPHICS COORDINATOR (GC): This individual, someone who has a phone with email capabilities or that they can hook to a computer to transfer photos, will receive whatever photos Melissa wants from beekeepers camera phones (or email for those using digital cameras) and post them to the appropriate spots on the Internet. (Since we don't know the exact nature of what we're doing yet, I can't be more specific.)

NAVIGATOR (N): Someone who can take calls from beekeepers on the road and help guide them to payphones.

In order to allow more people to participate, we could divide the positions into shifts with the exception of PS (Mad Cow has unique telephone resources).

Quote:
Blog? Or do you mean the wiki? The bee-log is moderated and thus somewhat lags real time stuff. But you could ask the firefly crowd to have a page that they will keep updated all day too (although this will be repetitive of what I hope the forum thread will do), and include that page link in your top level communications post. -- AD

Who is the "firefly crowd"? I suppose it's not important to post it to the bee log as long as people who use that as their primary information resource understand that they can come here.

- the fireflies wiki (as opposed to the ninja wiki; or what the heck both wikis). Dorkmaster, clamatius etc etc etc -- AD

MadCow/Phaedra - plan a message with all relevant contact info for axon hunters Monday. Whoever is going to be around all day should write it so they will have edit rights to go back and change it if needed as Tuesday proceeds. Perhaps someone else who is going to be at the computer all day can write the second message for the same reason - or to hold the current passphrase information. However you think it should work. [plan in advance so you can actually do this quickly before some third party decides to reply] (And - you know this but I'm just being compulsive - be prepared to improvise over gaps in your current plan and for last minute conflicts for your volunteers, as well as for failure to anticipate what Melissa is going to ask us to do Smile )

Anyway, once it's up, get me or another Mod to make it an Announcement in the Axon Forum. And leave a pointer Announcement behind in the General Forum.

PM me on Monday to get my attention when you are ready to do this, but I may be busy so give me some time.

I have finished mapping out the closest kinkos to each axon in Wa. state
for our Axon Enhottenators, the Rainier Company.

I also called kinkos and this is the info for ALL kinkos locations:

Cellphones-
If you do not have the capabilties to email a pic you MUST have a USB
cable to hook up to their PCs. The use of these PCs is .20 per minute.

Digital Cameras-
There are two options here. The first is the same as for cellphones. You
MUST have a USB cable and pay .20 per minute. Important note here,
their PCs do not support the XD Memory Stick. If you do not have a USB
cable you can go for option two which also does not support the XD
Memory Stick. You connect your camera to their Sony Picture Station and
for 4.99 they will burn you a CD which you place into a PC that costs .20
per minute.

You can then email your pic to your local team or directly to the soon to
be Picture Email Address or whatever they are going to call it.

At it's worst, this would cost you 6-8 dollars including tax.

Wow.. this is realy cool! Amazing how a simple idea spawned all of this...

I just sent off an Email to Cow explaining my situation...

Bottom line: It will be rough for me to do it again. I will only be available after 3:00 Central Time. But I am offering for the job as navigator... considering that I did it already before (about a total of 6 - 8 times last week), and i feel that i can accomplish that job rather quickly and effectively.

Here are my ideas: ALL TEAMS need to relay information (if you go as a team... designate one person to relay info). Also, we should have only TWO numbers out there... one for the navigators.. one for the passphrase (lets finalize these by noon tomarrow).

As for digital Images.... We are going to need resort to what we've always done.... post on forums. Ie: take a picture, run to a computer, upload to forums, hope word spreads. There is no real clear way to combat this.

I agree, getting all the pics to one central location in a timely manner will
be impossible. There are too many formats (cell, cam) with varying
capabilities (phone to phone, email) and limiting the options of delivery
will only lengthen the time that it takes.

Understand, the ideas put forth so far are great but, I believe it will be
neccessary to have a place on Unforums for pics as well.

Yes, but some of us can't post pictures to the forums. My phone will take and send pictures, but it does not have email capabilities and cannot link to my computer. Therefore, if I'm the one at my axon who has to take the picture, I have to send it to someone who can post it. There may be others in the same situation as well. We're trying to provide a resource for them.

What can I say, pDK, you inspired us. Very Happy

I agree on the two phone numbers -- I'm only giving out mine so far, to be less confusing, but the instructions to axon hunters say to include in the PM if they'd like navigation help, so I can give them yours if they ask for it. So, you can navigate after 3:00 Central (which is 1:00 PDT)? If we can just find someone for the morning, then...

And we still need someone who has a phone that can receive pictures via cell phone and get them onto a computer.

phaedra, in no way am I oposed to any of the soultions that your "team"
is working on. All of them are very helpful and I suppose that Tuesday will
really show that.

I am just saying that having a place for pics at Unforums will be neccessary.
Your "forum watcher" could grab them and email them to the appropriate
place. It's not hard to imagine that someone will need to upload it here.

You're right. Good thinking.

Moderators: it's probably too early to do anything now, since we don't know what precisely we'll be doing with the images, but if we do need to post them here, could you start an announcement thread or something so we have a centralized place for the images?

I know. I'm just hyper. Smile

Well.. I could plan this around my schedule as i come to think about it.... I could be at my post the whole time BUT from the times of 8:30 to 10:30 am and again at 11:30 to 1:00 PDT... so my number could be posted... but just keep in mind that if i dont answer.. i'm at class... so we need a 2nd navigator to take up my slack. I am not expecting a high load (about 1 call an hour) anyways... so if anyone want to help out that would be great (i'll even teach you how to do it quickly... after a while I can find directions to a new Axon based on nothing but their current location in less then 2 minutes).

IMO... i doubt that we will need real time picture relay. Think about it... dont you think Melissa just wants us to take the pictures and send them to her with in a days period (with the pictures edited with a SP hidden message). The PMs will seriously need to give us time to edit the pictures with our SP messages... so i dont think the need for picture relay will be needed.

Really, we were totally not prepared last Tuesday and it showed.
Just setting up coordination between teams and nationwide is a successful
exercise and will train us for what is hopefully going to be a ridiculous
couple of weeks.
