Since Morse code started all this...

So I was playing with the hornet on the Mission Icefly website, and it dawned on me that the fly always moves away from my cursor in a combination of quick and slow moves. What if the quick moves represented dots and the slow moves represented dashes? Maybe there's a message hidden in the hornet's flying, like each time the hornet flies away from your cursor is a letter in Morse code. I tried to "decode" the slow and quick moves, but I didn't find any substantial messages. However, at one point I spelled "gum", which gives me hope that there's something there and I just suck at understanding Morse code.

Do with this what you will. =P

Made a map of the sense print. In hindsight, I wish that I had selected answers to maximize the aqua area and minimize the other colors since the icefly is aqua colored.

Some geometric observations. The pentagon isn't equilateral, but it is symmetric along the vertical axis. At first, I thought this might imply some senses were valued more than others, but everything is displayed as if it is on a CRT monitor so everything might just be naturally distorted.

Edit: added 5 senses to map

the distortion may also be cause by the video setting. Try adjusting to 800x600 or other sizes. Just a thought. Then again, given the curved surface of a CRT, that could be the cause as well. Also, did you use a program for the measurments, of use a protractor on the screen?

I used AutoCAD for the measurements.

Envelopes

Just checked my mail and my girlfriend and I both received our envelopes with the Icefly helicopter as seen in this thread. It looks like there are 2 kinds of envelope, black and silver.

The contents are the same as others on here, LED helicopter and little slip of paper. The little slip of paper reminded me immediately of the little slips you'd get with your Flynn Lives swag. Nothing showed up with black light on either package or it's contents. But still nice to get something in the post again!

I haven't recieved anything yet, but the packages are making me hopeful! This is really the first ARG I'm fully into, I'm hoping for lots of contact, since I gave them everything they asked for.

Also, while watching television today, I saw a 5 gum commercial with blue winged things flying around a man on a pedestal, and at the very end, the "stimulate your senses" tagline shorted out and was replaced with "Test Subjects Needed"; but only for an instant. So it does seem that it is closely 5 gum related, or just major cross promotion, which sounds good to me!

Jumping in the action. This entire ARG makes me want to go and purchase all the 5Gum. There might be a puzzle or something out of it, just a curious thought.

Is it common to have to buy things to participate in an ARG? I can only think of one offhand that I've read about, and that was pretty openly acknowledged from the beginning so people knew what they were getting into, if I remember correctly. I know these things are often promotional in nature, but still, that seems like bad form to me. Or it could just be my inexperience speaking...

So I decompiled the swf to get a look at the actionscript and there are 12 cycles of the fly animation but there's no way of telling what the animation signifies. It's possibly visual morse code that might decrypt to "fivegum" or something...but I can't tell by looking at the code.

How long did it take from signup to the package getting sent?

Just got my chrome bubblewrapped package in the mail yesterday. Funny thing is, though, I never signed up for this ARG, unless it was a long time ago and I forgot about it. But then, I never got a black package. I didn't go to Bonnaroo this year, but I've gone twice in the past. They still shouldn't have my current address... How did they find me?!

5Gum. They must have tags on it if you purchase it from a card. Kidding....

We signed up last weekend, Jun. 11th or 12th. Package was postmarked on June 15th. I'd guess if you signed up this week you should see something soon. If it is 42E, which looks like it is, most things arrive in a timely manner. Given that the Mission: Icefly countdown expires in less than 2 weeks, I'm sure most will get packages soon to point them to the website.

The I.D. badges will take longer, but hopefully not too long!

I just got a little shiny black envelope from the Human Preservation Project. Yay!

Same as others...LED helicopter that says Mission Icefly with a barcode to the website. Also a note that says:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

We are both creatures of the senses, you and I - we inhabit the same reality, simmering just blow the perceivable world.

THE PULSE IS GROWING.
CAN YOU FEEL IT?

I guess we'll see what happens next on June 30th.
