Haha clearly it didn't work. I kinda pity the creators sometimes.

While doing that it came to me. He seems to only wear a watch once he starts filming himself 24/7 so that he knows when to change the tapes. The alarm is almost always coming from his watch. Since he showed up as Chest Cam Avenger I (Watchmen!) in 42, he put on the camera and then put on the watch because he knew there was potential for danger and he would need to record all of this. Maybe the watch is too painful a reminder of his original investigation so he stops wearing it? I don't know.

I had started thinking maybe Alex had cut the footage together from several days to make himself look like the good guy (after all, this is Alex's footage on an unknown hard drive). But that took so many assumptions to believe, and this is a much cleaner theory. I really like this theory you posted - that Alex's watch is there as a form of protection against the Operator. He didn't need it when he was just going to pick up Jay in the parking lot, but he did need it when he heard Jay had gone into the woods.

Thinking along those lines, it's also possible that with the Operator's time-jumping, watches might indicate that a time jump occurred. If Alex was "losing time" like Jay had been in Season 1, keeping track of time jumps would definitely help maintain sanity.

oh man some of you need to chill out with the theories for a little... i'm seriously laughing at the watch theory. i'd be willing to put money down that joe just didn't remember to wear a watch during that day of shooting, thinking nobody would notice something like that

I do like the idea of wearing a watch (or anything that can tell time, really) to keep track of time lost in blackouts. A cellphone would be better, WHICH WE KNOW HE HAS, because it also tracks date.

Of course, if Alex is being clever about things, he certainly knows that the Operator screws with electronic equipment enough to make the phone an unreliable option. He might, however, be safe with an analogue watch. Heck, if I were in his shoes, losing chunks of time, I'd get one of those self-winding clockwork watches, which would hopefully work despite the electronic interference. I can't see his left wrist well enough in the video to tell, to be honest, what kind of watch it is, if it even is one.

I don't know if the watch thing is significant or not. It just seems a wierd out of game thing - you're out shooting stuff, halfway through you stick on a watch - was it in his pocket before? It seems just as odd in game. Ot might be a hint that these clips aren't quite ordered right - I mentioned earlier that the shot just after Alex sees Jay (the one that looks a bit like noentry) seems really different from the shots either side of it too.

Interesting ideas but if Alex wanted keep track of time during blackouts he should wear a timepiece that is large enough to show up on a camera, something like this.

I was hoping it was going to be something like that, and you DIDN'T disappoint Very Happy
But as far as crazy theories go, I like the idea of him keeping track of time. We have seen him do it before with alarms for when the tapes were about to run out..

So are we going with the assumption that this is Alex's hard drive, since it begins with his video? Or with the assumption that it is Jay's, and Jay transfers the files from the chestcam to the drive, since he uses it quite often in the beginning of the season. We know the chestcam changed hands.

I'm going to go ahead and run with the assumption that this is Alex's hard drive. I like the idea that we're about to have another large chunk of Alex video... should, hopefully, help to clear up some of our theories about him, AND fill in some holes left by Jay's filming.

Was Alex filming during his "Criminals in the woods" speech?

Can't see any sign of the chest cam, though he does hold Jay's camera for a bit - its after a cut so you can't tell how long for. He doesn't seem to be pointing it at anything either, just hangs his arm by his side with it running.

Might the absence of the chest cam in Entry 38 imply it comes earlier than #42? Its hard to tell really, Alex might have just left it in the car or something. But if he did, what's the difference between #42 and #38 that makes him want to film one meeting with Jay but not the other?

Jay /did/ go into the woods in 42, and Alex had to film himself while he searched for Jay, while in 38 him and Jay were together, so he was already being recorded, they didn't need two separate videos. Of course knowing that Jay drops the camera in 42, 38 might have come before 42, and Alex didn't think that Jay was so horridly irresponsible that they would need a multitude of cameras, but who really knows.

Has anyone else noticed that when Alex gets out of the car, the windows are down, and when he comes back, they are up again...?

With the suspicion that its the new maskys jumper in his backseat, and if Alex is new masky then he could also have moved his car, but that doesn't explain how he sees new masky under that tree at like, 1:45 I think... Thoughts?

Easy way to put that, Alex is not Hoody. Unfortunately when thought of rationally, the purpose of this entry looks like it was to establish time and place throughout the series and tell the viewers that Hoody is someone else entirely, may be an old character, but its not Alex or Jay.
