I guess I'm not crazy after all!
response came in from Lane... and on we go!

Well, with his usual delay of two to three days, Lane sent a reply. I'll just let the message speak for itself:
Quote:
I commend you, my friend, for your persistence and patience.

I'm so happy to see that you finally figured out the meaning to Module Seven.

Here is the Module Eight Password:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
manytypesoftravelers

The password actually just describes that little poem that went with the cipher.
We already know from previous email conversations that not all content associated with a given module is related to the next password. We were just pouring over the wrong part of the content on this one. I'm pretty sure the cipher and "clue" are going to be part of that hinted-at cumulative puzzle as I see no way for them to have led to that answer without this kind of intervention. (I don't think the PM made that puzzle with the intention of this kind of interpretation, he/she was just helping us along after being stuck for so long). Then again, I could be wrong, as, in his response to my email asking for a hint, he could very well have pointed our attention to that poem.

Anyway...

Module eight is just some quotes:
Quote:
Artwalk

"All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions."

"I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free."

"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree."

"Art is a lie that makes us realize truth."

"For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream."

I'll proceed to Google and post any findings in a separate message.

Oh, silly me. Almost forgot to check the main blog. New post there as well, titled "There are many types of travelers":
Quote:
We have only just begun to figure out which type we are…

(Don't underestimate the importance of looking at the big picture. The modules are helping us as a crew figure out what is happening to us. We are taking into account all of the details about our daily lives and what has been happening to us recently. We hope you will help us solve the mystery of our presence here).

Basically just telling us not to do what we just did and get too caught up on one specific detail.

Well, that didn't take too long.

The quotes are mainly from famous artists, plus Einstein again, listed here in order:

Leonardo Da Vinci
Michelangelo
Albert Einstein
Pablo Picasso
Vincent Van Gogh

And yes, I've already tried lmapv as a password. It's obviously somewhat more complicated than that this time.

Well, the images in the video definitely move backward in time. [removed spammy links - kona]

also got an e-mail from Lane, completely out the blue

One of your fellow travelers has solved Module Seven.

Therefore, here is the Module Eight Password:

with the same password. Obviously he's trying to make sure everyone who's been involved with this doesn't forget about it!

New post on the blog:

Quote:
In time I rope you in again
I try and turn you back through him
I built a tower in my bones
I spill the mortar through my home
Don't let your heartbeat beat keep you safe

Apparently, these are lyrics from 'Counting Backwards' by 'Throwing Muses'.

I feel kinda bad that we had to be walked through to Module Eight; the PM's probable disappointment is almost palpable.

With that said, he's certainly hitting us over the head with the backwards thing now.

I just tried "backwards" "countingbackwards" "sdrawkcab" and "sdrawkcabgnitnuoc" (the same two passwords but backwards) none of which worked. Earlier I had also tried vpaml (the list of names belonging to the quotes backwards) which also didn't work.

The blog post isn't actually tagged modules, so I posted a comment asking if it was supposed to be (he's forgotten to tag posts in the past).

DUH! Note to self: ALWAYS google the names!
(and remember obvious knowledge)

Well, Can't believe I just now bothered to Google the names together. Plus, this is practically common knowledge.

All of those people were dyslexic.

Already tried dyslexia and dyslexic(s) as the password both backwards and forwards, but there are a number of ways that it could be interpreted.

Also, the page I found said that dyslexics have a talent for looking at "the big picture" (sound familiar) and "thinking outside the box." Perhaps the previous blog post was the one that should have been tagged modules.

Speaking of which, Lane never responded to my comment (maybe he doesn't check them), and the post was never tagged, so I'll be sending an email asking about it.
EDIT: sent, and I also briefly recapped our (small) progress on 8.

Come on guys! Let's solve this one! We can do it!

Summary of each of the passwords thus far:

1. 'menvsgods'
2. 'aitap' (astronauts in the apollo program) from Module One: Apollo vs. Apollo
3. 'protagoras' from Module Two: Philosophy 101
4. 'light' from Module Three: Photography and the Meaning of Life
5. 'wcgatl' (see list below) from Module Four: Epic Six
6. 'fathersonholyghost' from Module Five: Turn Down the Volume
7. 'ismsandions' from Module Six: History 101
8. 'manytypesoftravelers' Module Seven: Be, Being, Been

WCGATL list:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Charles Lindbergh
Galileo Galilei
Albert Einstein
Thomas Jefferson
Leonardo da Vinci

I hoped compiling this might reveal something, but no such luck. I imagine it'll come in useful later though.

maybe it means literally counting something backwards? i've tried number 1 through 10 (as words) both forward and backwards.

one other thing: i've always been curious about why some of the posts, instead of a title, are given numbers? and i cant find any logical sequence as the order of numbers. I tried putting in those numbers backwards but didn't have any luck, but it could be relevant. I cant think that Lane would give those posts numbers instead of titles for no reason. Plus, I believe it's only the password-related posts that have numbers (i.e. the ones that are or should be tagged 'modules). After all, if those numbers do make up the password, then they would be tagged modules too - and by using the previously tagged posts in a second sense, and if they together make up another password beyond their first use, then we're looking at the bigger picture. I realise I'm rambling a little here but I think my gist is coming across :/

Unfortunately it didn't work, but I just tried gnitnuoc... counting, backwards.
That's as "taking it literally" as you can get.

As for the "numbered" posts: those posts, when you actually look above the messages where the title would be, have no title at all. Those numbers you are seeing in the list of posts (in the sidebar) were given to them by Wordpress, as a way for its programs to differentiate them (otherwise, how could it tell "no name" from "no name"?). Therefore, I doubt it means anything.

R.I.P.

I'm sure we've all known it for a while now, but I just thought I'd put it in writing...

Lane never responded to my email, there have been no new posts or clues, and we've all tried every possible answer for 8 we can think of.

Essentially, I think it's time to finally call this one dead. Sad R.I.P.

Mutters to himself as he walks away about the first ARG he tried to join disintegrating, and how he had to pick that one and how...

Re: R.I.P.

Yeh, I agree with the sentiments, this was my first one too Sad

Luckily I chose to diversify early so not too beat up about it. Ah well. Would have been nice to see the end of it. If the PM is reading this, any chance you wanna just say how it would have ended? (Not expecting any resolution tho. It's like Schubert all over again...)

Re: R.I.P.

Another disappointed reader new to ARGs: decided not to be put off.

I wondered: I sent a couple of e-mails to Lane along the way but never got a reply. I may not have got enough into the spirit of things.

Also, just one thought before completely giving up on Lane & his crew: early on Lane did say that they were themselves stuck on one of the modules: could we have reached this stage? And all the last clues seemed to be about backwards - and wasn't one of Lane's crew members ageing backwards Benjamin Button style?

Thinking about it I'll give it one last shot... would be nice to have had some kind of ending to the narrative.

Just when you thought it was dead...

new entry:

Quote:
What Remains
By writingonthemoon
This is Jan's twin sister Lis, on an investigative mission from Central in an attempt to figure out what happened to the crew of L6-17. As of now, they have vanished without a trace. We are combing through the usual crew logs, but I'm also trying to unravel the mystery of Lane's private log, which contains the address and password of this site.

Particularly baffling is a piece of paper taped over the monitor of his computer containing the following notes:

πολυμαθής

Imagine -J.L.

At least we now know why it was dead so long... gah, I hate how they're toying with our emotions Sad

Anyway, onto the actual puzzles. J.L. is presumably John Lennon. The Greek translates to "Polymath".

I guess we're back in business people!
