I have as little idea as anyone how this is all going to play out tomorrow, but I feel sort of uncomfortable with the challenge, and slightly irritated. I hope to be proven completely irrational and overly worried about nothing. I just think about all the people who are spending bus fare to get to certain phones, and gas money, and who carve significant chunks of time out of their day to get to a payphone that may or may not be a live call (and may or may not even work!), and then, to have some insane A.I. hang up on them because they don't have Bluetooth or a handy laptop or a swank cellphone in order to process/complete/create a relay sequence. Y'know?

There, I said it.

That said, the coordination efforts I've seen by our very own beekeepers in the last few days have been pretty awesome!

I think the target audience for this ARG is pretty much guaranteed to have at least one digital camera amongst the groups. And she is encouraging groups.
I imagine whoever gets a live call will have their lovely countenance on next week's 404 page.

I'd just like to get calls from Melissa on my direct number again like other members of the crew. Crying or Very sad

I'm with you there.
Team Johnny_Nitro got no Live Axon love last week, hence no cell phone call this week.

Yeah, but I think there are a LOT of axons which have solo enhoteners. For the past few weeks I've been at ~12 axons per week and the only site where I'm not alone requires us to split up.

Now *I* am teched out to all hell. But I see krystyn's point.

Hmmm, no. I didn't get a live call last week but I am scheduled.

I feel less cranky now, because I was feeling a little more worried than I should've been, but it's definitely true that there are a lot of us hoofing it out to these locations alone, and consistently.

I worry about the narrowing of the potential player base for the sake of upping the stakes of our 'goals' in this game. That's also tied into some conflicting feelings I have over how in the heck we're even supposed to have loyalties towards one fractured persona over another, but that's probably better meant for another thread.

United States locations -> locations with payphones -> locations with payphones that exist/work -> payphones that are answered consistently, and by seasoned players -> payphones that might have a live call coming in on it -> U.S. working payphones that have been consistently answered which might have a live call on it, by a player who has considerable access to internet, wireless communications, and "digital imaging."

The difficulty bar has been raised in a pleasing way, I think, but at what cost? Again, I hope that my fears are all unfounded, and that tomorrow's tasks will leave me feeling excited and jazzed about the game. I just worry about these hurdles.

Ditto here. I answered my crew call dutifully for thin_kinkles_playhouse on my cell, and I am scheduled again this week.

That's true, but you should remember that as the tasks and interactions have become more complex, there have been more ways to fight the good fight without enhottening an axon. I actually think this is a response to the kind of worries you express. Area operators, navigators, codeword dispatch, potentially image manipulators, flea speak translators, etc. All of these other roles have done just as much to advance the game as my 50 or so axons. I may have to make it a mission to show people just how cooperative this game is.

I've been alone since week 4. And I'm a college student. My "technology" extends to a borrowed minitape recorder, a borrowed digicam (that's partially broken, I might add), and the University's computer labs (which are almost always full). I don't even OWN a cell phone, and I had to wheedle to get my sister to accompany me tomorrow for a half hour in the evening.

Now, I'm not trying to complain, but ... Phantom Beekeepers DO exist! Barely.

And once again, this is EXCELLENT teamwork, and props to any team that has enough people to fill even four of those positions. But as for me and probably at least a few others out there, I'm going to have to make a long distance call on a payphone at every location (that's separated by more than 15 minutes, that is) just to find out updates. Okay, not quite so bad at the U, because of all the computer labs. But in the evening, the axons are at a mall across town. Closest computer to me at that point is twenty minutes away, if traffic's not bad.

I agree that this is a wonderful drill regime, but it's also murder on all those not fortunate enough to have local supporters, disposable income, or access to the most hip technology. Still, I'll be participating with the same vigor as before, because I love the game. I'm just starting to fall behind because of said handicaps.

I've been pretty much alone since week 2, but the last 2 weeks, with the prospects of live calls have started to drag others out of the woodworks. Fortuantely, my persistance paid off and I'm a crewmember getting calls on the cell now. But I'm still hitting my axons up regularly, since I don't know the dedication levels of others, and every axon is within a 5 min walk from my work.

But if it wern't for this board, I'd be lost in the game, that's for sure, so the community teamwork is excellent help! Razz

Actually, I was just looking at recipe 5 and I could have sworn that I saw a "Johnny Nitro" listed unter one of the times...

I'm a little conserned for those of us who are on teams that need to split up and take phones solo as most of us in the OC Axon Relay Group do.

She doesn't just say to bring digital imaging equipment... She says to, assemble and bring that equipment...

I just hope I'm able to pull off whatever she has in mind. Razz

I'm guessing she'll want you to take pictures of each other, which she'll show to us.
I will bow down to the picture of anyone who wears naval dress uniform, or even a sailor's cap...
