Nope, no cops. But I've been worried a few times. Hovering over the phones in Union Station (major train station in your nation's capitol etc etc), lingering near a payphone outside the White House's New Executive Office Building. You know, normal stuff. However, jamesi did talk his way through Customs for week one. THEY bought his story about the game. That and the tea, I guess.

Early days, people were suggesting carrying a "letter of intent" that you had written yourself. That's not really very useful. Anyone can write a letter. And the evidence of a game on the web is much more convincing than anything you could write. If you ever need to explain, just send them here where they can see for themselves. By and large though, the phones should be in public areas and you should not be/act concerned about waiting for a call from a friend. If you're not worried, you won't attract attention.

Now Secret Service guys (and gals) are very serious types. If they are locking down an area, just leave. This is just a game. That's reality. Be open, friendly, and nonargumentative. I hope I don't have to tell you NOT to try to handle them as an "in game" event. Don't leave your packs on the floor while you run around the corner to check a phone. Basic security stuff. Soon enough, they'll be gone.

Super Tuesday

Thanks for the tips, aliendial. I didn't mean to insinuate that I was masochistic enough to take on a Secret Service guy, btw. I've heard stories Razz On the "cancelled axon" front, is there a proven correlation between not connecting these axons and their not getting calls the following week? That's definitely something we need to know about.

Let me elaborate on the situation for next Tuesday:

There are two temporary "security perimeters" that surround Gammage Auditorium, the venue for the debate next Wednesday. The inner perimeter (blue) surrounds the immediate area around Gammage, which isn't a problem - although there apparently is a payphone inside the building, FYI. This perimeter has already been constructed.

The outer perimeter (red) will be the issue. The green area is the only entrance in and out of the dorms across the street from Gammage. To the immediate north of the dorms - possibly immediately adjacent to the "perimeter," which we're assuming is a giant barbed-wire fence like the inner one - and just east of the Ag building, is an axon. Police like to park next to the sidewalk where the phone is even under normal circumstances. This is one of the two I'm most worried about. I'm going to have to get a haircut if I'm gonna look as unsuspicious as possible... but I digress. I don't know when this perimeter will be constructed, but I'm 99% sure it'll be up by the end of the weekend, and definitely by Tuesday.

I'm also worried about the areas highlighted in orange, which may or may not be blocked off. Once again, I don't think the axon north of Ag and east of Student Services is going to be blocked off per se, but there will probably be hell of security there. There's this little darkened garden-y area around the corner from the axon, which I am almost sure will be closed off. So this axon is a pretty tenuous grab as well.

The third axon is north of the auditorium, in the middle of the Farmer Education Building. It's been definitively stated that the south entrance to the building will be blocked off, but it should be easily accessible via the east entrance, if not the others. Since classes outside the perimeter aren't officially canceled (!) there should be at least some access into the building. So this one shouldn't be too bad.

All the others, including the two south of the MU that I've included on this map, should be business as usual, although I'm assuming the increased security force will spread to all of campus, and hyper-vigilance will run amok among DPS, Secret Service and "concerned citizens." This should be a challenge, but I think we can do it - all ASU axons will go hot next Tuesday, as long as nobody gets arrested. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it. Smile

Well G3K, good luck with that. Remember this is just a game though, if you get the feeling security is unhappy with you standing around, or if the codeword to activate the axon is something like "assassin", I would just worry about it later or not at all.

33.511875 -111.986529 :: 16:59 :: 44th & Camelback (Cork 'N Cleaver?)

NOTE: Everything's in the same order as last week, which is nice. The, um, digital imaging requirement originally freaked me out, but I guess camera phones are discreet and excusable enough. And the great part is that I don't have class during any of these (except the S MU and PSF ones) ^__^

Let the coordination commence. Who can come this week?

EDIT: Note the slight, but nevertheless important, time changes for two of the axons: the second S MU, and the West PSF. And, dammit, good luck. And watch CNN on Wednesday.

Axons persist that have not been gotten. Especially if they have been gotten in an earlier week and missed one week.

G3K,

At the very least, I can hit Cork N' Cleaver at 16:59 as it's not too far from work. ASU would be a bit of a stretch, however. If this changes I'll pm you tonight and see if we can't organize better coverage of ASU.

By the way, excellent work with documenting the ASU axons! And the logo is pretty schweet too.

FWIW, when Clinton was at ASU for the '96 elections (starting to feel old), there were MIB's on the top of every building. It was a tad eery. I imagine wednesday's appearance will make '96 look tame, given the heightened security climate and the fact that *both* candidates will be on the scene. By all means play it safe.

We may have some issues with the earlier axons, actually. I'll PM you at some point after I talk to Bob about which ones I actually have covered. Tuesday is shaping up to be one hell of a day for everyone, axon hunter or not, so I understand.

Are you ever able to get Mills, though? Is anyone? I'm not sure who's been responsible for their enhottenation or lack thereof over the past few weeks. Sadly, as with the rest of the Wise Men, I can't make it to those this week.

And thanks. I actually cracked open my preinstalled Photoshop Elements to make that thing. I should make T-shirts. Wink

Rec5 - ASU

ASU:

It looks like we're almost completely covered.

GBrian: 14:37, 14:43, to class.
Me: 14:55, to dorms. Get update, drop gear, make sure everything's running correctly, resuit for hunting. I have 38 minutes to do this.
Sam: 15:11, 15:28, to class.
Me: From dorms, 15:33
15:39: See Below
Me: 15:45, 15:59, 16:07.

G3K and I can take pictures and upload them on the move, as well as email them if necessary, and I can surf the web from anywhere.

We're thinking about having a personal Eye In The Sky, someone to sit in the dorms and relay information, upload pictures, do whatever needs to get done to make sure it all works. The current thought on that is that GBrian will push out an update on what's happened when he can, probably to me for my 14:55, because I will be in class from 9 until I get the 14:55.

We have someone who can do eye-in-the-sky type stuff for us from 3 onwards, so that's probably sufficient, especially combined with the data I can have pushed to me before that point by GBrian. We may be able to talk our eye-in-the-sky into getting the 15:39, too, because that's not a terribly long walk. Overall, we've got it pretty well sewn up, I think. Joy.

What it all comes down to is the procedure for Tuesday.

Other Phoenix Axons

It doesn't look like we can get any of these. Sigh. The AZMills ones are the best option for the enterprising axon hunter with little time.

Re: "eye": You talking about Annette? Farmer's asubstantial walk but that sodnds relatively feasible. We could concede that one to another player if she would be more value at home, though. I hate scratching this out on my wireless Palm arrgh

Yeah...

Unfortunately, tomorrow starts the really annoying security-elevated time frame (provided Badnarik is unsuccessful. If he's successful, things get interesting.).

I don't know if I'll be able to axon-hunt. Depends on activity, the vibe of the place, the requirement, and all that jazz. If I am not, I will make it known.

My two are okay, based on what I saw tonight. We'll play it by ear, yeah.

Note the slight axon-time changes, as above.

Bob: Annette's getting the Farmer Axon; G. Brian is willing to risk getting the S MU ones, since it's far enough away from the stupid fence Razz

I know this - I was the one who asked them to do so, and I already got the time changes. Paper distribution will happen after we know what we need to do.

Hmm.

Rank and File - 0/250 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION
Elite Forces - 0/15 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION
Nav & Comm. - 0/25 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION
Science & Medical - 0/15 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION
Engineer & Mechanic - 0/25 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION
Band & Entertainment - 0/10 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION
1 Paratroop, 1 Vac Suit Tech, 1 Scuba - 0/3 ... PENDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION

So either we get to take pictures of these people, in which case Elite Forces is easy - at least to take. Trying to explain it away is another thing entirely. Razz Looks like it could be good, could be bad. People are getting the axons, and the passphrase isn't public yet. Wonder what it'll be.
